As green as the forest after a rainstorm, those eyes began to fill up with tears that eventually spilled over the edge and ran down the light cheeks. Xenja turned around. Stevie watched the back of the short girl run away, shaking. Totally unlike her calm and coordinated movements at the piano.
She wanted to reach out, or call out at least, but she was too stunned by what had happened.
It was what she wished for, she was sure of that, now even more than before. Nevertheless, it was also wrong, according to the beliefs taught to her since she was a child. She grew up with it and couldn't just simply change how her own mind thought. But how could something be wrong, when it felt as natural as breathing air? When her lips were touching Xenja's, they fit as if they were made for each other. That was at least what it felt like to Stevie, even if the kiss wasn't very amazing - it was their first kiss after all.
Stevie didn't know if that was how kissing usually felt no matter who you did it with, but she didn't want to find out. No, she only wanted this girl to kiss her.
Finally snapping out of standing in the middle of the road stunned, Stevie started to run after Xenja. Running through the park, the path luckily freed of snow so she wouldn't slip. Her shoes making harsh sounds on the gravel of the path, echoing through the emptiness in her thoughts.
She knew exactly where to run to, even though she had never actually been there. Numerous times had they passed by that area, and every time she could feel Xenja get uneasy in her hand. Not a nervous or scared type of uneasiness, but rather as if she had a need to visit this place.
Stevie turned around the first corner and immediately slowed down at the sight of the big gate in front of her. The graveyard gave off an indescribable vibe, something anybody had felt if they had been to one.
Some people were walking around, and somewhere far she could see Xenja's small body crouch in front of a grave in between big tombstones. Stevie continued her hunt slowly, not wanting to interrupt the peace lingering in this resting place.
She slowly approached her crush, looking behind the girl that was holding her own knees close to her chest. The writing on the big stone - it seemed to be a family grave - read Irene, Flynn, and Rob. At first, Stevie didn't think much besides the fact that Xenja had lost much of her family. Then, she read the the rest of the text which was directly under the date of death. All of them had died on the same day, in the same car crash.
Having hung out with her newly won friend a lot, she also recognized the date which she had marked in her own calendar just a few days ago. Furthermore, she realized now, Xenja had kept this date more of a secret than a normal person would. She shivered and got only a few steps closer, looking down on Xenja. All of her family, except for her mother, died on her birthday when she had been eight years old.
Stevie didn't know how to approach Xenja, nor if she was even supposed to. But shortly after silently standing next to her, the girl took out her board, gave her a look with teary eyes, and started writing.
[Please excuse my behavior] Stevie could see her shaking hands and the not so perfect letters in her writing while Xenja was trying to hold herself together. [I won't do it again. Just please, don't leave me, too.] Xenja was holding the board towards the blonde, averting her face. Her counterpart was crying, even if she tried to hide it behind the board and the sleeves of her big jacket.
"Xenja, please don't apologize. I-I..." Stevie started to stutter and didn't know what to say. She had made up her mind to ignore her beliefs, actually following that decision was harder than she thought.
When she stopped talking, Xenja turned her head, looking at Stevie. More instinctively than making a clear decision, the blonde leaned in and kissed the unexpecting girl. Seconds that felt like many more passed, leaving both girls stunned in silence. Right in front of Xenja's loving family, a new love was formed.
"Xenja, I-" Stevie's words were quickly shut up by the girl in question, who just lightly shook her head before nodding towards the peacefully resting graves. She took Stevie's hand, guiding both of them out of the graveyard.
Once they had reached a bench outside, Xenja placed her bag on it to take out her board again. She barely started writing. Meanwhile, Stevie started talking, or at least she was trying to force words out of her mouth.
"Xenja I-... I think I... no, I know that..."
Stevie's endless mumbling got Xenja smiling, laughing almost, if it hadn't been for her muteness. She put down her board with trembling fingers, now because of a silent giggle, and turned towards her counterpart, who was still trying to get out those few important words.
While waiting for her to speak up, Xenja placed her arms around Stevie's neck. Suddenly Stevie yelled, "Damn it! Xenja I love you!"
Xenja jumped a bit at the suddenly raised voice, but shortly after nodded and pressed her lips against Stevie's. Warmth was spreading in between their connected bodies. No words were needed, both were sure what that meant.
The act of normalness that Xenja had copied from the series she had watched crumbled when their lips parted, and she shyly skipped away while waving her hand at the content looking blonde. A smile, that felt like it was glued to her face, was stuck in place, accompanying Stevie all the way home and the next days.
