Lincoln
Part Twelve
It felt like my head was about to explode. I shouldn't have left them alone. It was stupid but we had Malcolm's tail, only we didn't realize he was already on ours. I'd underestimated the guy and now my best friend had been shot and Zeke taken away with Malcolm. Even Simon was losing his head, pacing back and forth waiting for Dan to bring Matt here. I swear to god if I lose my best friend I'll go to jail for him, I'd do time. I didn't care. I'll kill that motherfucking piece of shit in broad daylight. Then I inhaled deeply and looked up at Simon. He was staring down at me. Eyes glassy, holding the whole world on his shoulders. It made my chest tight and I couldn't handle it anymore and stood and walked to him, then wrapped him up in my arms. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't immensely attracted to him, because I am. "It will be okay," I whispered, trying to convince him of something I was so unsure of myself. "Matt will be here shortly."
"It's Zeke I'm so afraid for," he said, gripping my back. "Malcolm will hurt him. Hurt him so bad."
"I'll get him back. I promise. Anyway I can."
He looked up at me, tears swelling in those beautiful eyes. "I don't want you to get hurt either. For so long Malcolm has done nothing but hurt people. Degrade them. Treat them like trash. It needs to stop but I don't know how to do it."
"I'll do it for you. Even if I get hurt, as long as he's gone…."
"Another will just take his place," Simon mumbled into my chest, cutting me off. "It's business, not just a way of life. As long as the business is there another will just take his place."
"I'll shut it all down."
"How?"
"I'll buy a fucking island and put all the Omega's on there if I have to. Then I'll burn everything that Malcolm has to the ground…." I was cut off with screeching of tires and both me and Simon rushed to the door of this safe house. "Fuck, Matt!"
I saw Dan and he led us quickly away and round to the back of the property where several dark off-road vehicles were parked up at the side of the road. He opened up the back of a Land Rover. Matt was laying amongst blankets in the back of Dan’s 4x4 which was as hot as a sauna inside, not moving. "Lets get him in." he said and me and Dan both pulled him from the car. Matt groans from pain but was so weak he couldn't do much else and my stomach knotted.
"I have the IV ready," Simon said, walking in front of us until we were back in the house. We laid Matt on the makeshift bed and hooked him up. "It doesn't seem like any vital organs were hit, but he's lost a lot of blood. He won't be going anywhere any time soon."
"Give me an update Dan. Every detail, even dead ends."
"We’ve got a possible lead on Malcolm. One of my boys stumbled across an old fella who gave a very good description of him at a house downtown. I cannot be sure he'll be there now. But I've got my guy's stalking the place."
"Then let's go! What the fuck are we waiting around for? If he's not there I'll roam the damn streets until I find him."
"He's a sly fucker. It won't be easy."
"Nothing ever is, but all my life I've pretended it was. Now this. I'm not pretending anymore. Matt is my best friend, my family and Zeke is his. I won't stop until I have Malcolm."
Dan nodded and pulled his phone from his pocket and held it to his ear. "Anything." He said, then nodded again and closed the call. "He's moved. My guys have surrounded the place he's at, but they're not sure how long he'll be there."
"Do we need to go now?"
"Yes, right now." I took a deep breath and turned to Simon. "I need to go, please please make sure he survives."
"He will."
I wasn't pretending anymore and I sure as hell wasn't going to hide either. So I grabbed Simon and crashed my lips to his then pulled away. "I'll be back," Simon stood shocked but I had no time. We'd sort the rest when I'm back with Malcolm. "Lets go Dan," And we left out the back and jumped into his car. We didn’t hang about, breaking every speed limit there was. I didn’t care. All that mattered was getting to Zeke and getting that scumbag. "You got a spare gun?" I asked. He nodded to the dash and I opened it and grabbed the gun and pushed it carefully into the waist of my jeans.
"I hope you don't get to use it."
I wanted to have the same thought, yet I knew I probably would use it. "Do you know who I am? I'm my father's spawn. You should know that Dan."
"I know."
It wasn't exactly the time to pull that old chestnut out. I’d used the ‘Do you know who I am?’ card countless times, but never with such good reason. "My father will deal with rest, so just get us there."
The drive was quick and we now sat a few cars down from the place Malcolm was. Dan was out of the car and making quick inventory with some other guy's, then he was walking back to me. I rolled down the window and he nodded. It was the get go and I jumped from the car. The house was large, as expected from Malcolm. The door was opened before I was even through the gates. In the opening stood Malcolm, oozing obsequiousness like he was apologetic and innocent. "I see you're quick to find me…." I didn't let him finish that sentence as I ran up to him and smashed my fist into his stomach.
Then Dan was there, pulling me back before I could launch myself at the shit again. Maybe it was a good job he stopped me, else I think I might have killed Malcolm with my bare hands. Instead I pulled the gun from my jeans. "Get up!" I yelled. "And don't fucking move. Dan, get Zeke."
"My guys are already on it." I smiled, a minor victory. But my hands were shaking as I pointed the gun at Malcolm. Smile, I thought. Just smile or say something. Make me pull the trigger. Let me kill you. "Don't do it Lincoln. Don't throw your life away for him."
"He deserves to die." I hissed.
"That may be so, but think of Matt and Zeke and Simon. I saw you back there. You don't want to lose him right?"
"Fine," I huffed and held the gun down. "Just gag the prick and tie him up."
"On it." Dan said and I slumped to the floor. Dan's right. He'd pulled up enough evidence on the guy and his nasty business to put him away for life and on another good note. When he goes to jail rumors spread like wildfire. He'll die at someone else's hands anyway. I was just so relieved and tired. Finally we had him.
"Zeke?" My relief was short lived when I saw two of Dan's guy's carrying him from the house. He looked bad, really bad. "Get him in the car. Dan, I'm taking the car." He chucked me his keys. "Sort that out." I bit then ran for the car. With Zeke safely wrapped up in the back I sped away back to Simon. So much happened. So many things I had to think about, but the most important thing was getting Zeke back with Matt. In all the long years I've known that guy I've never ever seen him act like that. He'd finally fallen in love. He was finally smiling. He wasn't the Matt I used to know and I loved it. I love seeing him take care of Zeke. It kind of made me want to evaluate my own life and make some changes. No, that's wrong. I wanted to change me, like Matt changed himself. It was a wake up call to how we had really been living up until now. Oblivious. Ignorant and selfish. It all needs change.
I finally pulled up to the safe house and pressed the horn letting Simon know I was back. Simon's phone had died hours earlier and mine barely had any signal at best, just enough for Dan to call me about Matt, which only added to the worry. I had a lot of apologizing to do but first I needed to get Zeke in so Simon could deal with him. I jumped out of the car and pulled at the door to see Zeke still out cold. "Oh god," I heard Simon say, now standing next to me. "What has he done to him?"
"I don't know, so help me get him in." Simon nodded and we both gently pulled him from the car and I carried him in. Matt was still out too, which was good considering the condition Zeke was in. "Dan's dealing with Malcolm."
"Good," Simon mumbled, setting up his things. "I was scared Lincoln, so scared I'd lose you."
"Well I'm here. Is Zeke okay?"
"Looks like they beat him quite a bit, but nothing else beyond that, I don't think," Then I noticed Simon stripping his pants away checking for something. Then he sighed. "He didn't do anything else, thank god." I guessed he was referring to rape and thank the heavens he hadn't been. "They'll both be out for a while. I've removed the bullet from Matt's side and stitched him up, now we wait."
I fell into one of the chairs on the far side of the room and looked at them all. So much happened in such a small time frame, enough to last us all a lifetime and once Malcolm is completely out of the picture I plan on helping the rest of the Omega's. It won't be easy and it won't be fast either. There were countless brothels and selling houses. So many places that needed to be wiped clean. "Simon, I need names, places, lists. I need everything so I can shut it all down.
"I'll be more than happy to help. God only knows I've wanted that for a long time," he stopped talking and joined me in the chair next to me. "The things I've seen Lincoln. I just….I don't know where to start."
I took his hand in mine, silently letting him know I'm here. "Let's get these two better and we'll fix it together."
"Together," he repeated. "Yeah, I like that. Together. But….you know I'm a Beta, right?"
"I know."
"You're an Alpha."
"I know that too. But I also know how damn smart you are and that you'll find a way around it." He looked away but I saw his smile and cute blush. I guess I'm already changing, for Simon. Beta or not. I wouldn't let him go any way. Now, we just had to wait.
