"But you don't understand!"
"Yes I don't, why didn't you buy the flowers?", asked James his best friend, who desperately tried to convince him that it wasn't his fault that he stormed out of the flower shop earlier.
"I tried to, but there was something...", mumbled Axel quietly to himself. He knew it was his fault, but he didn't want to admit anything.
They were standing in James's kitchen, with Axel sitting on a bar stool and hanging his head low and James standing in front of him with his arms crossed.
Axel wasn't much younger than the other, but in moments like this it made him feel like a little child that was being scolded, despite being 25 years old.
His head shot up as he heard his friend sigh.
"I think we can do nothing about that. To be honest I already thought that this would happen, so I already bought some flowers.", said James, which made Axel's jaw drop to the floor. He entered his personal hell unnecessarily.
"You mean I did that for nothing?!"
The younger's reaction made the blond haired one laugh. It was exactly what he expected of Axel. He had always been like that.
Both have know each other since elementary school. One faithful day Axel dropped his lunch and James felt sad for him, so he bought him new lunch. And since that day they were glued to each other by the hip.
As their senior year in high school arrived James met his now fiancé, Kathrin. At first Axel was a little grumpy that he wasn't able to spend all of his time with his best friend, but over time he discovered that Kathrin could actually be a really cool friend.
Now in the present time Axel kept on muttering sorry to his best friend. He really did feel sorry, because he really proved to his friend that he really was irresponsible like that.
"Please stop saying sorry already. Despite that you should rather tell me why you ran out of the flower shop in the first place. I know you hate flowers, but surely not to that extend.", said James with a clear confusion. That was the only thing that wasn't the same about Axel. He never was afraid to face anything, even if it was like hell to him. To just run away was completely out of character.
Axel was contemplating whether he should actually tell the older what or to simply lie. He ran his fingers through his long hair out if habit.
"Fine, there was this one worker and you know..."
"Don't tell me you had a gay panic..."
Immediately Axel almost flew of the bar stool he was sitting on, making the blond laugh even harder than before. His face was burning red and he repeatedly ran his fingers through his hair.
"I didn't! He was just very good looking!", yelled Axel at the still laughing James. His answer actually resulted in the opposite and made it seem like his laugh didn't seem to stop anytime soon.
"But who was the worker though?", asked James after he finally calmed down.
"Does it seem like I would've been able to get to know him. It should be to know who it was, you know all the employees there."
"Then describe him to me, maybe I do know him.", suggested the older, because of the the fact that he knew every single worker in the shop. Reason being that he has been buying flowers from that exact shop for the past four years.
"He had light brown hair and was about that tall.", axel pointed to his shoulder, signalling the height of the one they were talking about, "and he had relatively feminine features."
It looked like a light bulb was lighting up above James's head, while he was nodding his head. A small grin formed on his face.
"Seems like our Axel has a small crush."
"I don't! I simply want to know who he is.", argued the younger, making the older let out a small giggle. It was his first time seeing Axel like that. To his knowledge the man had never had a crush on anyone. Yes, in the 25 years of his life he had never had a crush. Of course he had been in relationships, but they never really lasted that long and were most of the time one sided.
"But I'm sure I can set you two up for a date."
