I was walking down the hallway when I noticed my overly colourful friend leaning her back onto the lockers. I rushed over to her, hoping that she would have more information on the situation. As soon as she noticed me, she rolled her eyes and approached me with a sassy attitude.
"Urgh, I thought you would never show up. Good thing you didn't bail out on classes today, if not I would've personally gone to your home and broken into your room to kidnap you."
I ignored her comment and put my hands on her shoulders, completely shaking in panic.
"Did you get any more information ?"
"About what, about you being a doof ? Frankly I do have enough information at hand to say that – "
"Not now super-rainbow ! This is important !" I whined at her.
"Ok ok calm down shortie, I was just trying to make you relax. Well good news for you; there is nothing to panic about for now. I've been looking around the news all morning and didn't see anything about you or any big reveal. And the other students are just talking about Maximus and how he was such a turd for coming at you for no apparent reason. But nobody is talking about our big fancy secret, so no worries. Either this scuba-diver guy is really trying to wait for an apparent right moment to tell everyone, which is hella weird, or either he is actually keeping it to himself like I told you yesterday."
I looked around only to notice that she was right. If they really had discovered who I really was, they wouldn't be behaving that way around me. They would have probably been swarming around me like a bunch of flies around warm poo if that were the case. The only thing I received from them were glances and occasional gossiping, but nothing more than that. As I calmed down on this situation, I thanked Mira and told her to meet up with me at lunchtime before I went on heading to my classroom.
No other students were present in the class, except for that one kid who would always come extremely early and claim his seat to study or whatnot, but fortunately he didn't take notice of my presence. I went to the far end of the classroom and sat down where I hoped that no one would ever notice my existence.
A few minutes came by and more and more people arrived into the classroom. They would glance at me for a moment then go by their merry ways completely ignoring me again, talking to their friends and preparing for our next class. For now nothing was out of the usual, I guess I was way too stressed out about all of this. Then soon after stepped in Fred and Owen. Crap, I forgot that I shared first period with them.
As Fred went by and sat in his usual spot without lifting his eyes from his phone, I noticed that Owen was acting... a little unusual. While the other students would just about ignore me after a brief staring competition that I imagined I held with them, Owen stayed fixated at me. He wouldn't even sit down next to his friend, he was just standing there, staring straight at me as if he could read right through what I was thinking.
Soon enough the panics I thought that I had dismissed earlier on came back to me like a hurricane. I forgot about him and the fact that he was the son of a rich entrepreneur, which I would guess is a sector where news would travel faster than anywhere else. Does he know who I really am ? Crap, why are you looking at me like that ?
Once Fred noticed Owen was not listening to him, he called out his name. It suddenly broke his faze and made him come back to earth. He was now holding up his end of the conversation with Fred, and just before he sat beside his friend, he went and looked at me again, smiled, and waved cheerfully towards me from the other end of the classroom.
Argh ! What the hell was all that about !?
Soon enough the teacher came into the classroom and decided to start talking about physics. Or wait, was it literature ? I didn't know and right now I couldn't care less.
After half an hour of the teacher boring us about our lesson (which I finally understood was history), a loud knock was heard at the door. After the teacher told them to come inside, a tall and skinny lady stepped into the room. It was then that I remembered that she was part of the school administration. She started clearing her throat before talking in a oddly formal manner.
"Hello everyone, I do believe that Mr Kentwood is attending this class right now, could Mr Kentwood please stand up ?"
I hesitantly stood up from my seat. The lady smiled at me and called me out.
"Mr Kentwood, you are demanded in the principal's office right now, please follow me."
Urgh great, who would've guessed that I had to see this sack of stewed prunes so early in the morning ?
I followed the administration lady to the principal's office. She knocked on the door to signal her presence, then swiftly opened it once she heard the principal call her in.
"I have brought in Mr Kentwood as requested Ma'am. I shall be on my way."
On that note she made me enter the room and closed the door as quickly as she had opened it. And in front of me, to my non-existent surprise, stood the very last person I wanted to see by far today.
"Mr Aston, Mr Kentwood. Please sit down."
Maximus and I sent menacing glares to one another before we followed the instructions of the principal. Not long after, the headmistress sent us the same menacing glares, showing us only how furious she was.
"Boys." She said, obviously trying to contain her anger.
"Would you kindly explain what the hell went on yesterday with both of you two ? Do you really think that the school grounds are a place to riot and settle your scores ? Hm ? MR ASTON !"
Maximus lifted his head to the principal as fast as an ostrich would have dug their head into the ground, which honestly was what I wanted to do right now.
"This is not the first time I caught you inflicting violence against your classmates ! The academics are really starting to lose their patience with you ! As much as your grades and impressive dedication into your afterschool sport activities would usually reflect the image of a proper model student, we really cannot say the same thing about your attitude !"
Maximus looked completely defeated at this point, but it didn't seem like it was his first time getting a scolding like that one. The teacher quickly turned her head towards me, without changing a single thing from her facial expression.
"Concerning your matters Mr Kentwood, YOUR attitude and seriousness is certainly something that should be admired for a student, but your grades, must I say, are nothing short of disappointing. And after the violent acts that had happened, on top of your sudden missed attendance from your last two classes yesterday, I would be strictly recommending you to keep a low profile from here on out. After all, we don't want to have another... unredeemable delinquent here in Colenson high."
She slowly started to glance back at Maximus as she said delinquent. He was at that point facing the ground, probably trying his best to not punch our principal in the face. I mean, if this is what he was thinking, then for once I was totally understanding his point of view. Even though everything she said couldn't be argued with, I still didn't find it very professional of her to spit the facts right at his face just to lower his self-esteem. Our headmistress was always known to never restrain her words, and unfortunately that earned her a lot of enemies here.
"Now." The principal broke the silence.
"First of all, I would like you both to apologize to each other."
I glanced back at Maximus who was still completely ignoring me.
"I'm sorry Maximus." I said as soon as the principal had finished her sentence.
After a while, I also heard a very faint 'sorry' escaping from Maximus's lips. Well so much for being on equal terms. Then again, he did always act so superior to the rest of the world, so I guess hearing him apologize was an actual record of itself.
"Now Mr Kentwood, I do not see you being responsible for the events that occured beforehand, so I will only let you out with a warning. Unfortunately for you, Mr Aston, we cannot say the same. I will have you face disciplinary actions once again."
As the principal was trying to figure out what suitable punishment she would give to Maximus, I slowly turned my face in an attempt to read his expression. His sight was still shooting lasers the ground, as if he was trying to burn holes in the hardwood floor. One thing that is for sure though is that you could see the shadows slowly creeping into his mind, as he was probably starting to lose all control inside of himself. Maximus was so infamous for acting violent around here, there was no doubt that he was starting to understand how bitter the sanction was going to be this time. Eventually the principal took a stack of papers in her hands, tapping the edges of it on the desk to make them even, then spoke out.
"Mr Aston, I have concluded that you will have to write an apology letter to Mr Kentwood since you were not able to formally apologise verbally to him earlier on. For the time being, you shall be expelled for two weeks, maybe you will use this time to reflect on your actions once again. You're both dismissed !"
"WHAT ?!" Maximus shouted.
It must have shocked the headmistress as much as me that Maximus would suddenly change his behaviour like that, judging by her large gaping eyes.
"Miss, please think this through ! I don't want to be expelled for two entire weeks ! Please let me be able to come to school, I will not act out ! I promise !"
The principal let out a long sigh of desperation before staring back at Maximus completely dead eyed.
"Maximus... I have had enough of your broken promises already. I am trying my best to be as nice as I could in a situation like this. You should be happy that after today you were not expelled all-together. Now I would ask you to please leave my office boys. Mr Kentwood, have a nice day. Mr Aston, I shall see you in two weeks."
In only a moment, Maximus and I were both standing outside the principal's door that was slowly closing behind us. I looked up to Maximus and saw that he was giving me the fiercest death glare that one could ever give, probably wishing by now that I was buried six feet underground.
"You..." He stated angrily, holding back his voice the best he could to not shout the living hell out of him.
"Don't expect me to be finished with you. Trust me on those words Akari, you will soon regret that your mother ever gave birth to your stupid ass. After I am done with you, you beg the gods to never be reborn again. And I will make everything in my power to make the rest of your life as miserable as it could get."
Once he finished his threats he knocked into me with his shoulder and went stomping as far away from me as humanly possible. Jesus, that guy is never going to stop being an asshole I tell you.
