After a while of racing and playing other games in the arcade such as Street Fighter 2, DDR, Whack-A-Mole, we even went into the photo booth and made some hilarious photos of ourselves looking like idiots. Anyway, we walked out of the arcade and I saw the time and it was already six-thirty in the late afternoon. I pulled out my cellphone and saw I had a few missed calls from my mother, my dad, and even my sister, Diana. I even got a few text messages from them as well. Mom messages read as:
“Are you two having fun?”
“Honey it’s getting late you two should come back home.”
Dad messages were:
“Your mother getting worried sick, you two okay?”
“If you need a ride call me.”
My sister on the other hand:
“Yo, Buffon! Mom and Dad are getting worried as fuck. Get your ass back here asap.”
I quickly called my mom on my phone and put her on speaker.
“Honey where are you?” she asked.
“We’re right here mom. Sorry, we go a little preoccupied with the arcade and some shopping. We’re heading out soon.” I said.
“is Sara with you?” she asked.
“Yeah, I’m here.” Sara yelled.
“Okay good. Both of you come straight home. No detours!” she said.
“We’re on our way. Love you Ma!” I said.
“Love you too sweetie!” she said.
I hung up and picked up half of Sara’s bag and she carries the other half. We walked straight towards the exit of the mall and make a left turn towards the bike. My mind was going on how the hell are we going to carry all of these bags back home? But before I could come up with a plan. I saw someone at my bike, trying to take off the lock.
“Hey what do you think you’re doing?!” I yelled.
The stranger turned towards me. A homeless man, white beard, wearing a red hoodie and camo jacket with large boots and plaid pants. He looked like he barely slept for days.
“This your bike?” he asked.
“Yes, that is my bike. I asking you what you doing.” I said.
“You going to give me that bike and walk away son.” He said.
“Sir, we don’t need to this-“
“DO I LOOK LIKE I NEED TO NEGOTIATE?!” he yelled as he pulls out a switchblade.
I slowly put the bags down and walked towards the homeless man with my hands up.
“Sir, I’m serious. We don’t have to do this. Just walk, I’ll give you some money if you just walk away and pretend none of this-“
“SHUT UP! UNLOCK THE BIKE AND GIVE ME WHATEVER YOU HAVE CAUSE I’M NOT IN THE MODE TO NEGOTIATE-“
Sara then tossed one of her bags at the man and I dashed towards him and disarm him of his knife but he kicks me back and grabs the knife and tries to stab me but instead, it pierces through my left hand as I attempt to snatch it away again. It dug deep went through my hands, the pain was extreme as it if I could feel my whole arm going through so much pain from the stab alone. Sara saves me by kicking the man into the wall and grabs him by the neck.
“I suggest you leave, NOW!” she said in a monstrous voice.
She then tosses the homeless man to the streets of the parking lot as he freaks out and runs away in fear. Sara then quickly comes to me and removes the knife from hand.
“It won’t be much but this will do.” She said.
She grabs my arm and softly blows on my opened wound as the void is filled in ice and numbs the pain away. The pain should be nothing like comparing to what I endure back in the demon realm. But it hurts like I lost a limb or two. Why does it hurt so much then it does in the demon realm?
“Come on let’s go. That crazy old man might be back.” She said.
“A-alright.” I said in pain. I reach out to one of the bags but Sara snatches it away from.
“How about I take from here on out?” she said.
She then made a pole of ice and slits each bag onto the pole and carries it above her. I ignore the pain in my hand and unlock the bike and hopped on with her. We pedaled away from the Mall and into the streets. This time I didn’t take the highway route as it would be a hassle to go through with all the stuff we’re carrying. I carried two of the bags on my bike handle as I didn’t want Sara to burden herself with all the bags that she has to carry herself. Even if I know she has the strength to do so it wouldn’t be very gentlemen to have her carry all of her bags. I pedaled up a steep hill with the sun leaning down over the horizon. The more I pedal the more stress I put into my body to keep up. I felt the pain in my hand to grow as I pedal above the hill as a bit of my blood was leaking from my palm.
“Hey, pull over when we get to the top.” She said. I guess she noticed as well.
“Don’t worry… I’ll make it… just need to make it up the-“
“Park. uphill. Now.” She said while pinching my cheek.
She must have noticed that my hand was bleeding again. As soon as we made it on top of the hill, I kick the bike stand out and got off of my bike. I walked over to the fence on top of the hill and leaned on it as I enjoy the view of the sunset. I saw Sara transform the ice pole into a multi hanger as it grew out hooks as she stands it up straight. She lets go of it as it stands perfectly still next to the bike. She walked over to me and sits against the fence and enjoys the sunset with me. We didn’t anything towards each other for a bit. We just sat there and enjoyed the view. No wolves chasing us, no bandits to fight against, no training, or crazy hobos trying to shank me to steal my bike. It was just us, silence, and the view. Funny, I never imagined myself sitting up in the hills to enjoy a sunset. Almost like something you would see in a Telenovela or romance movie.
“it’s beautiful.” She said.
“The sunset?” I asked.
“Yeah, don’t get sunsets in the demon realm. We only have the moon hovering above the sky. The moon itself is nice in my world but the sun it’s so warm and it illuminates the sky than just the dim lighting of our world. Though I don’t like staying too much in it because I get a tan too easily.” She said as she twirls a bit of her hair behind her ear.
“Yeah…” I said while I nodded.
“let me see your hand.” Sara said as she reaches for my hand.
I winced as I felt the pain resurging when she touched my hand. She clumps her hands together with my hand in between them. She chants a spell in Latin as her hands began to glow green and the pain in my hand resurged quickly but then quickly fade as well. She slowly moves her hands away from mine and the opened wound on my hand was gone like that. However, I saw Sara stumbled back a bit and immediately catches her in my arms.
“Sara! Are you alright?” I asked her.
“Yeah sorry, I pushed myself with my magic.” She said as escapes my arms and leans against the fence.
“Do you need time to recover?” I asked.
“Me? What about you? Your hand isn’t fully healed yet.” She said as she pants a bit as if she’s out of breath.
“My hand is fine, you need to rest for a bit.” I said. However, as I said that, I didn’t realize that my hand motioned over towards her hand and I was holding it tight.
“I appreciate your concern for me but can you back up and let go of my hand.” She said.
I didn’t know that I was so close and right in front of her. I didn’t know what came over me or why my body moved on its own. I know Vampires can get their strength back by suck out- wait. What am I even doing? Before I knew anything, I removed part of my shirt and expose my neck to Sara to let her know that she can suck on my blood if she needed too. Sara was lost for words of how much I cared for her wellbeing, she leaned in closer to me and lowered her mouth near my neck. She gentle bites downs, just enough to draw out some blood. I winced a bit but then she grabbed me closer to me as she bites with force as she sucks more of my blood. My vision began to blur a bit but came back as soon Sara let go of my neck. She blushes off a bit and covers her mouth as if she did something embarrassing right in front of me. I don’t know why but for a moment, she looked cute.
“I’m sorry. I… overdid it a bit.” She said while blushing.
“What sucking out my blood? Didn’t you do that the first time when I joined your group?” I asked while rubbing my neck. Though I’m surprised there wasn’t that there was a bite mark there.
“I mean … yeah but I carried. I haven’t had blood in a while. And… oh god, this is embarrassing.” She said.
“Not as embarrassing of what I did.” I said.
“What do you mean?” she asked.
I looked at my injured hand and squeezed into a fist as the injury haunts me back.
“I got hurt pretty trying to protect you. I know you’re strong than me yeah but… I thought about all the training I got from you guys… I thought I would get stronger and no longer have any flaws to hurt anymore.” I said with disappointment in my voice.
“What’s wrong with being flawed?” she said. I looked her as she removes her hand over her mouth and she turns towards the sunset.
“Being “perfect” is nothing but a bullshit fantasy conjured up by assholes who want to live in a “perfect” world as they see fit because they think their views mattered more than everyone else. Or you try to balance what everyone wants but you can’t please everyone’s wish because not everyone has the same viewpoint as you. In my honest opinion, being flawed is perfect because it shows that you’re still you. Whether it’s me being a vampire or you being a human, everyone has a flaw or two. And those flaws are either our greatest strength or our Achilles’ Heel. Nothing in this world or any world is perfect at all. We just need to accept that.” She said as she jumps over the fence and sits on the fence itself.
I didn’t say anything to her at all. She just took the words out of my mouth. I jumped and joined her in watching the sunset together. We didn’t say anything to each other. We barely met each and she’s already done so much for me in that short amount of time. I don’t know if that’s how she met the others in the group. But whatever the case was, I’m glad I got to hang out with her. After all the chaos I went through from meeting the new members, I needed a break like. After watching the sunset for a while, Sara and I went back to the bike and head the rest of the way home.
By the time we got home, it was around 8 p.m. My mom’s probably going to give us the scolding of our lifetime for coming home late. I reach into my pocket and clicked on a remote trigger to open the garage door. I rolled my bike back to its spot where it was in the morning we left. Right as we were about to enter through the door that leads into the kitchen. I unlocked it with my house key however, I hear the Tv in the living room was on. I sneak my head out of the creak of the door and see that there’s a huge crowd of people in the Livingroom.
“What the hell?!” I yelled as I opened the door as I see the rest of the members are chilling in the living room and messing around.
Kam and Jax are playing my Play Station 4 playing some of my games, Frey is in the kitchen cooking god knows what because I don’t recognize ANYTHING that his cooking in the kitchen. Surprising Miyoko, Andrea, and even Xin were right on the dinner table …. sewing?
“What the hell are you guys doing here?” Sara said as she enters with some of her bags.
“Oh, so you guys are back.” Miyoko said as she’s sewing a shirt.
“So how was the date, guys?” Kam and Jax yelled from the living room.
Sara and I immediately dropped the bags we were carrying as our faces turned white.
“What…. Are you guys talking about?” I said while I’m trying to playing off like I don’t know.
“Don’t lie to us, you two had a lot of fun together alone.” Andrea said as she flicks her hand as a handful of photos appear on and toss them across the table as they were multiple pictures of Sara and I.
They were spying on us the whole day! Some of the pictures were normal but most of them were pictures of me and her getting too close with each other almost as we were getting ready to kiss each other. Especially our moment on the hilltop. Sara’s face and my face drop pail white as we were beyond embarrassed that the whole group was spying on us. Our faces turned from pale white to hot boiling red of anger as I grabbed a broom and Sara conjured an ice club and tries to whack them for stalking us on our hang out. They all laughed in joy as they were dodging every move we make and go through the portal in my bathroom mirror. Sara and I were pant from exhaustion as we took a minute to catch our breath. We looked at each other for a moment and laugh it off. Sara then makes her way back to the kitchen and carries her bags to the bathroom. I helped her carry some of them as it was time for her to go back home. She gave me a look and waved at me as she goes through the portal. I went back to the living room and cleaned some of the mess she and I create while chasing the group. I return to my room and collapsed on my bed but then notice that some bag that was next to my bed. I got up and looking inside as it housed a grey robe, some sort of sweat pants with some long socks, and a pair of shoes. On the robe, there was a note as it was written in Japanese.
“夜明けの割れ目、これを着てください。明日は一緒にトレーニングします。遅れないでください”
I barely understood what it’s saying. I opened my phone and opening a translation app. I took a picture of the note as it loads and translates what it says.
“Xiao Saul, at the crack of dawn, wear this. Tomorrow, we train together. Don't be late. Xin Chen Fu.” it reads out.
Perfect, not only was my day off over as it but now I’m training with the psycho that nearly killed. However, I knew it was only a matter of time that my day off would end. It’s time for me to return to the chaos of the demonic realm and prove my loyalty to The Dark Children of The Night.
