Heat.
It was suffocating. I'd been asleep in the river for awhile and I'm not sure if it was the heat that woke me or the silence. It was unnerving. Even the water didn't seem to make a sound as it flowed.
I tried to listen to my surroundings and smell the air but the effort made me whine in pain. There was something off but I couldn't be bothered to care. Looking around the night sky did little to help in my assessment of what laid before me. I needed to start moving again. The river was lined with bushes and beyond the bushes were trees. There was no path, no directional signal to tell me where to go.
My stomach grumbled fiercely and I tried my best to ignore it. I was hungry, the heat was intensifying the need for food and something else entirely. Trying to push back my thoughts I focused solely on standing. It was difficult but I figured it'd be even harder if I did it while in human form.
After a few minutes of struggling I finally was able to stand. My back leg was mangled and I knew it was useless. My legs shook, I wouldn't be able to make it far, and I wasn't even sure I would be able to even take a step without falling.
Snap
I froze. My body coiled and my heat surged through me knocking me back onto the ground. A whine forced its way out. After a moment of panting I was able to regain some composer and I turned my head toward the sound.
Snap
The sounds of twigs cracking and leaves being shuffled was all too clear. Whoever was out there wasn't trying to sneak up on me. I laid my head down and waited. Whatever was going to come out I didn't have much choice but to accept what would happen me. My wolf seemed excited but instinct was screaming for me to run.
Running was out of the question. So I waited, and I didn't have to wait long. My eyes stayed glued to the trees where the sounds were coming from. Within a few minutes a large figure started to come out. I tentatively sniffed the air. 'Pack.'
At first I was unsure of what I was seeing and smelling. My sense of smell and my eye sight seemed to have weakened due to my current state. The scent of the male was intoxicating to my frazzled senses but my wolf didn't stir as much as it had for the Alpha.
'Ben!' Thinking of the Alpha helped me place the scent of the large wolf in front of me. He continued stepping away from the shadows allowing the moon to illuminate his form. He was handsome in his wolf form. A vibrant auburn color with piercing amber eyes. He was large indicating he was possibly a higher ranking wolf.
I let a small growl escape me. I was injured, tired, and in desperate need of something I still was unaware of. I watched as his movements stopped and he raised his own head to sniffed the air and then let out a loud howl. I had been found and I knew punishment would surely come.
I eyed the other wolf wearily as he continued to come closer. Another warning growl left me and Ben just shook his head at me, a soft growl leaving him as well. I really didn't want him near me but the heated side of me did. He closed the small distance between us, bowing his head to let me know he wasn't a threat. Before I could react his jaws grabbed the back of my scruff and pulled me out of the water. I didn't want to leave the cool waters but I wasn't in a position to fight against him.
I whined at the loss of relief and at the pain the dragging caused my injured legged. He released me a few feet away from the waters edge and I watched as he backed up and started to shift to his human form. I laid on my side keeping my injured leg from touching the ground.
"You really know how to get a pack in a frenzy don't you?" Ben's warm voice filled the silence. I closed me eyes knowing that I would be punished for causing such a stir.
"Kain isn't happy with you. You really shouldn't have jumped out of the window, nearly gave Levi a heart attack!" The smile in his voice was clear. He seemed to find my situation amusing but I didn't see it that way at all.
Closing my eyes I tried to focus on anything but the now burning sensations that were crawling all over my skin. I felt agitated at being caught and disappointed-about what? I'm not even sure.
My thoughts traveled to the Beta. He would probably still me there, waiting for me.
"Sid has been sent to the prisons back on our land." Opening my eyes, I looked over at the naked Ben. Him unknowingly answering my unspoken question. Ben crunched down at my head and I couldn't help but let my eyes stray to the area between his legs. My wolf was panting, and it was starting to dawn on me just what this heat was.
The man before me was well endowed, and if I had been in my human form I'm sure a blush would be staining my cheeks. I don't think he caught me looking so I just re-closed me eyes, the desire and want still thick in the air but I did my best to ignore it.
I never seen another wolf experience this heat like I had been, but I also wasn't allowed to be around pack members for extended periods of time.
I jerked a little when I felt a hand starting to pat my head. I didn't like the feeling but at the same time I did. A side of me was craving more, but the sane part was confused. Typically when Alpha would pat my head it was because I had been good. This time however, I wasn't sure what the reasoning was and I couldn't help but tense under Ben's ministrations.
"Kain won't let him get near you again Omega." Words that were meant to be comforting seemed to have the opposite effect on me. They were lies spoken. The Beta would find a way, my Alpha was the only one who could protect me. And he was possibly dead.
A whine escaped my lips and I felt stressed. Ben adjusted himself into a sitting position next to me and continued to pet me.
"We don't know why they kept you like this but this isn't the life an omega should be living. We will find you a place." His words confused me, and my already frazzled mind became even more chaotic.
I tried to keep my breathing under control but there was a weight that was sitting heavily on my soul and I was scared.
"Kain should be here soon, we didn't think you'd make it this far. You're almost into cat territory." Cats? I hadn't known there were Werecats so close to home. "Those bastards would have used you worse than what you have already endured." Ben's voice was smooth and comforting as he continued ranting about the cats. I wasn't sure what he was saying for most of it because I was more focused on my heat and what the voice speaking was doing to my body.
Rustling and the unmistakable sounds of many feet hitting the ground could be heard. The slight growl and bark as wolves drew near could be heard.
"It's about time." Ben spoke under his breath, his voice seemly to have become a little tense while we had waited.
I left my head off his lap. When had it gotten there to begin with? Before I would think more on it, the first wolf broke out of the trees followed by five more. The last one was huge compared to the others.
His fur was black as night and his amber eyes shone bright against his dark fur. His posture was that of a predator, his every step toward me made this body ripple with unimaginable strength. This was an Alpha of power. I could stop my head from going back, exposing my neck, my body slightly turning more onto my back. Submission. This wolf could snap my neck easily.
I wasn't scared of him, well a small part was, but the heat had taken over my mind and body as each wolf made their appearance and their scent hit me. It was intoxicating, mouth watering.
A needy whine left my lips. A angry growl was my response but my wolf paid it no mind. When I left Kain place one leg on either side of me and bend down until his nose was at my neck, I couldn't help the slight wag of my tail. I'm sure I was a hysterical sight for the other wolves, but I was beyond caring.
I knew what I wanted.
The moment they walked through those trees my mind finally figured it out.
I wanted to mate.
It no longer mattered what punishments were waiting for me, or if the Beta came. As long as one of them soothed the heat, it was all I cared about. My wolf had a preference, and I allowed him to guide us. Instinct was safety.
Another whine left me but teeth are what greeted me.
Kain roughly sank his teeth into my jugular.
"Dude!" I faintly heard Ben yell.
"Kain don't do it man. You still don't know if your mates dead yet or not." Sane words, and my throat was immediately released.
Ben let out a sigh but I growled. Vaguely I heard the cracking of bones Kain and a few other wolves shifted.
Glancing over at the group I watched them. A few of the men I recognized from the room I had broken out of. Kain looked livid.
Storming over to Ben who had stood up beside me he punched the other wolf sending right to the floor.
"If I didn't already know she was dead, I wouldn't have even considered it!" Kain spat out at Ben and sent a heavy kick into the down mans stomach.
"Fuck," Ben wheezed, "I just didn't want you making a mistake on some random Omega." I was a mistake? Whatever heat that was burning through me dimmed at those words.
A mistake?
Was I really that bad of an omega?
