Nario was gone when Tega awakened the next morning. Somehow, she was back at home. The silent halls let her know she was alone. Her head was still pounding from the previous night of booze and wild sex. She stumbled to the bathroom and searched through the medicine cabinet for some pain pills. There was nothing amongst the stacks of bandages and potions.
"Figures," she sighed, closing the cabinet door.
Looking up, she saw a reflection of a tall blonde woman standing in the doorway with a devilish grin on her face.
"Who are you?" Tega asked as she turned on the water and splashed the coolness on her face for alertness.
"You can say that I am Nario's girlfriend," she proclaimed.
"Must beany old one, cuz I never saw you before," Tega replied turning the water off and heading out of the bathroom.
"Old?" the blonde laughed, "No, sweetheart. The one and only."
"Funny," Tega sat down on the bed, "He was with me last night."
The woman grimaced as she walked over and stood beside the bed, "I would love to stay and chit chat, but I have something more important that I want."
Tega looked at the woman from the corner of her eye when she noticed the eyes changing from brown to gold.
I don't need this right now!
Raising her arm, the woman shape-shifted into a werewolf and pounded into the bed. The bed flipped into the air along with Tega. A loud growl hurled through the air as glimpses of the beast caught her eye. It was only a few seconds of time to think about what she was going to do before the beast got to her.
Bang! Bang!
“Come and get me, bitch!” Tega shouted as she grabbed hold of the floor lamp next to her.
The werewolf launched towards her as Tega raised the lamp up blocking the beast’s bite. Clamping down, the lamp broke into two. Tega leaned back as the werewolf reached for her neck. It was too late to block the attack as they both crashed through the window.
“You’re gonna die at this speed, Huntress!" the werewolf laughed.
It was only a mere second until they collided with the solid stone gravel below. A loud crash burst through the crowd of people that stood watching the incident.
The werewolf stood up and looked down at her, “I don’t see why everyone is so afraid of you. Look at you. You’re pathetic.”
Tega lay on the ground as her eyes were bloodshot blanks. The slowly pooling blood around her filled the cracks of the enormous indentation they caused in the pavement. The crowds of people stood around watching as they were terrified to try and help her.
Hm? The werewolf sniffs.
Tega slowly sat up as the blood poured from her mouth. The werewolf snarled and took a few steps back as she watched the battered body stand up.
“Impossible!” the werewolf growled.
Tega’s eyes suddenly turned from red to black. The werewolf gasped as Tega darted towards her. The beast clawed at her catching air as she appeared behind it.
How did she get this fast?!
Tega jumped up on the back of the werewolf as she reached in front of it and grabbed its top jowl. Fear filled the beast's eyes as it tried to bite down. Pulling back hard, Tega ripped the top of the beast’s head clean off. The crowd of people gasped as the large body-slammed to the ground in a pool of blood.
“Tega!” a voice called out to her.
She turned to see Nario racing towards her. She couldn’t control herself as her body urged her to tear everything apart.
“Tega, what have you done?!” he yelled as he noticed the bloody slumps of flesh on the ground.
“N-n…” she suddenly passed out.
*********
“Tega?" a voice whispered through a pounding headache she had.
Her body suddenly felt as if she was hit by a train at full speed. The bones were achy and heavy. It hurt even to open her eyes.
“Tega?” the voice called out again.
Tears flowed down her cheeks as she struggled to open her eyes. A blurry image of Nario came into view as she mustered an attempt to sit up.
"Just take it easy, girl," he told her as he stopped her from sitting up.
It pained him to see her in such a terrible way. She was always a tough girl. Always forcing herself to the brink of destruction. Now, she was a fragile version of herself.
“I don’t know what happened back there,” he whispered to her, “but you were almost one of those things.”
She faced the wall as she struggled for a voice, “I d-don’t know what y-you’re talking about.”
“I’m talking about how you tore apart that werewolf chick,” he kindly reminded her.
She flinched as she tried to sit up once more, “She was some bitch of yours, wasn’t she?”
He sighed and stood up, “You know what I am talking about, Tega.”
“Just leave me alone,” she growled.
He turned to her, “Tega? You need to see someone about what just—“
“I said get out!” she screamed.
A sudden burst of energy threw Nario across the room. They stared at each other for a moment trying to take in what had just happened. She used a magical force that she couldn't before. It had a similar aura to that of a witch but was somehow stronger.
“What's going on?!” he spoke as he returned to his feet.
“Just get out, Nario,” she cried.
His heart began to ache as if they were breaking up. He could barely believe that something was wrong with her that he couldn’t fix.
She was hurting.
Afraid.
He couldn’t do anything.
Nothing.
