Pride groaned as she threw her phone to the side. Envy eyed her with sympathy before her gaze turned to the plate placed in front of her. She gleefully began eating the breakfast Wrath made. “Oh, this is so good!” Wrath glared at her compliment. She placed her meal down before giving Rose hers. Then returned to the table and began eating her meal in silence. Pride groaned as she, yet again, was unable to reach Conquest.
“You don’t even need to eat,” Pride huffed. “Wrath and Rose need to eat. You don’t.” Her icy voice rang out. Envy paused from her meal. Dabbing her face with a napkin before looking at Pride. Her gaze was cold yet burned with irritation.
“Humans don’t just eat to live. It can be a fun experience!” She returned her focus to her meal. Her phone buzzed next to her. She sighed as she checked it. Pride scoffed knowing what the notification was.
“Oh please, I need to do this.” She smirked. She quickly dropped it.“They get skills and I get a meal. Not my fault humans have streamlined the process for me.” Pride could see a faint sadness in her eyes. One that she tried to cover up with a light tone and jokes.
“Whatever,” Pride said. “I swear if Conquest won’t pick up I’ll-”
“What? kill him?” Wrath interrupted. “If you want to fast track Lucifer torturing you that would be the way… If he can be killed at all. Can he?” Wrath looked to Pride. She shrugged. “Oh please if anyone should know about the horsemen it’s you. Your age has to be useful for something.” Pride met Wrath’s glare with one of her own.
“How old are you guys anyway?” Rose paused her show.
“Early 300s.” Wrath got up to wash her plate.
“I’m in my 2000s,” Envy said gleefully. “Don’t know the exact number though.” Rose sat up and stared at Pride. Turning her body to look up behind the back of the couch. Pride gave into the look she was giving her.
“Don’t know.” Pride looked away.
“What do you mean you don’t know?”
“Are you that much of an idiot that you don’t know the meaning of the phrase.” Wrath shot her a glare before turning her attention back to the dishes. Pride sighed and leaned back against the table. “I’m an elder demon. One of the very first of the Hell-born. Back when Hell was mostly just fallen angels. They were figuring things out when we were made because of this we have certain… issues. That coupled with being the first demon to have my name erased has caused me to lose much of my memory of my existence before being Pride. Including the years I spent serving Lucifer before.” She moved her gaze back to Conquest’s report to try and seem busy. “I’ve lived for a few thousand at least.” Rose silently nodded in acknowledgment before turning her attention back to her food and show. Pride sighed as she absentmindedly flipped through the folder. Most of the records were incredibly unimportant. That’s what happens when you have an immortal keep track of everywhere he has ever been. Accounts and short notes about long-gone towns or even countries. Only the last few pages were of any importance. If Pride had been asked to do this a few centuries ago it would have been easy. However, it seemed that with the coming of the apocalypse the horsemen got to work. Conquest had made a name for himself it seemed. In the folder were pages and pages of the names of people he controlled in some way. The records pertaining to how to contact him specifically seemed to be outdated. Or he just wasn’t picking up. Pride hoped it was the former.
Pride had tried contacting a few of the people on that list which seemed reachable. However, everyone so far hung up the second she used Conquest’s fake name or one of the demons who worked for him. She wanted to slam her head onto the table. A sigh left her lips and she began to type in another number. Envy seemed to catch on to what she was doing.
“I’ll help,” She said with a smile. She looked over Pride’s list, her eyes scanning the names and descriptions. Pride observed her stop when she met a certain one. She scrambled back to her chair and turned on her phone. After fiddling with it she smirked. “I got our in.” She said, her voice radiating joy. She turned the phone to Pride. Wrath and Rose coming over to look at it. On the screen sat the face of who was apparently on the list. “The name and job matches!”
“You use dating apps.” Rose did her best to contain her laughter.
“For my survival, yes.” She placed her phone on the table. “I’ll talk to him. In a week or two we’ll have Conquest!”
“Okay, so we wait outside then when you’re done talking to him. We jump him!” Rose’s eyes gleamed. She gleefully tapped on the steering wheel. A baseball bat leaned up against her chair. Pride didn’t remember seeing Rose grab it on their way out. It seemed that the human kept it there.
“We’re not jumping anyone.” Pride scoffed. She scowled from the passenger seat. Envy was sitting behind a window in the restaurant. Across the street. A smile on her face as she spoke to the target.
“Aww, I’ve always wanted a reason to use this. Why do I even carry this around then?” Rose motioned her head to the baseball bat she brought. Her light brown hair drifting across her pale face.
“Self defense.” Pride wanted out of the car so much.
“But that’s so boring. I spent a lot of money on this. I need something interesting to do with this. Any ideas?” Rose’s gaze moved to Wrath who leaned forward in the gap between the seats.
“Break his kneecaps.” Wrath met her gaze with determination. Her voice even.
“We aren’t hurting him!” She growled. “… unless we need to.” Pride stared at Envy. She scowled at the time Envy was taking. Her eyes drifted away from her and moved to look around Rose’s car. When Envy first saw her car she was in awe. Envy spent quite a lot of time on Earth. Based on her reaction this was an expensive car. How rich is this human? She thought. Her eyes met Rose. Who had been staring at her. An expectant smile on her face. “If it comes to that you can use it.” Pride sighed. Rose pumped her fist before going back to messing around on her phone. Pride’s eyes slowly drifted to Wrath. Who flopped back down into the backseat.
“I know what you are going to ask and I don’t know.” Wrath stared outside her window at a nearby pigeon. Pride’s eyes drifted back to Envy. Who seemed to excuse herself and walk off. Soon after she got a text.
“Don’t follow. We’re making an arrangement. Will text you after it’s done with location!”
“Finally!” Pride groaned. The joy of finally having a way to get to Conquest was quickly thrown to the side by anxiety. I have no excuse anymore. Everything before this could easily be excused to Lucifer. However, there would be no way to go back after meeting Conquest. Horsemen have a direct line to him. He would know. She had tried to think of a way to get what she needed while placating Conquest. She had yet to find one. Voicing this concern to the others didn’t help. They would just have to play it by ear. She had no plan. No predetermined way to do the angel’s job and survive and be welcomed back in Hell. She despised that fact.
Envy texted them a few hours later. The address she gave them led to a motel. Though Pride didn’t have much to compare it to it was evident that it wasn’t the best of places. Envy leaned against the wall outside. Absentmindedly using her phone. Her eyes flitted up and saw the car. She gave a solemn nod and motioned them over. Rose parked the car and started to get out alongside Pride and Wrath. “Ha, nope.” Wrath scoffed at Rose. “Back in the car.”
“What why?” Rose tried to walk to Envy but Wrath blocked her. Well as much as she could giving her small stature.
“The three of us can’t get in any trouble by being seen by this guy. We don’t exactly have lives or identities. You’re human so you stay in the car.” After Rose wouldn’t move Wrath tried to force her back into the car. Rose wasn’t budging. Wrath determined to get her back in tapped into her demonic strength. Prepared to forcibly drag Rose back into the car. However, just as she was about to connect she stopped.
“What the hell?” Wrath couldn’t touch her. She readied herself to try again but her body refused to take that last effort to touch Rose. She brought her finger to Rose. Poking her worked. Envy cackled at Wrath’s confusion and walked over.
“She made a deal with you. You can’t physically harm her.” She sighed. Wrath practically glowed red.
“Well, I- Just! Get in the car and wait!” She stammered out.
“Yeah… I’m not going to wait alone out here so…” Rose stared down at Wrath. A slight smirk on her lips.
Pride groaned. “This shouldn’t be a problem! Wrath, wait outside with the human.”
“I have a name-” Rose sighed.
“I do not care,” Pride scoffed and walked away.
Envy groaned. “Pride wait. You don’t know where-” She ran off after Pride.
“Stay.”
“No.”
“I order you to stay.” Rose got back into the driver’s seat. She leaned her body over the steering wheel. Wrath forced by her contract got back in the other seat. Slamming the door with a huff. “How long do you think they’ll take?” Wrath looked away out the window. A grumpy look on her face. “Want to get smoothies?” Rose said gleefully.
“Fine.” Wrath huffed. Rose smiled and drove away. Wrath shot her a quick glare. Which Rose laughed at.
