Chapter 1, Part 3.

Chapter 1, Part 3.

Jul 10, 2020

After thinking for a few moments, Theo walks to the little kitchen, grabs the mug he’d been tapping on the counter, and gets some water from a pitcher nearby. The water feels warm in Theo’s hand, but he decides not to search for ice because he doesn’t want to intrude any more than he already had. He hadn’t looked at the boy too closely, but he could tell the iron in his blood was low. Maybe he was anemic? He hadn’t been a vampire long enough to be sure. Theo shrugs and grabs a pastry from a small box in the corner and carries it into the bedroom on a paper towel, along with the mug of water. His eyes catch on the boy as he enters the room again- the boy stirred, made a small noise, then settled once more. Theo places the things onto the boy’s desk, then grabs a slip of paper and a pen from the pocket of his jacket. He scribbles a brief note:

“Mysterious Guy-
“I’m sorry for scaring you, and I’d love to explain myself. Please don’t be scared of me because I won’t hurt you. I’m in the room where you put the bat. If you happen to need to contact me later, my phone # is 406-620-1741.
“-Theo”

He leaves the slip by the pastry and mug, then slips the pen back into his pocket. The vampire walks back to the room he came from and sets the box back how he thought it could have been before he woke up on top of it. He sits back in a small chair by the desk and begins doodling pictures of the boy on creased and crumpled sheets of notebook paper he finds in his jacket pockets. His pen scratches the boy’s face into the paper, beginning with the shape of his head, and then his dark eyes. Moving on, he goes to a button nose that’s just slightly bent in one direction, just like Theo’s. However, Theo’s was from when he fought with one of his brothers as a kid and broke his nose. He couldn’t tell if the same had happened to the other boy. The pen then idly begins scratching the shape of the boy’s lips, which were angular and pale but still soft. After leaning back to see if the quick sketch resembled the boy’s actual face, Theo scribbles his messy, light brown hair onto the skull in blue ink.

After drawing a few different sketches of the boy, Theo’s pointed ear twitches when he hears a low, pained grumble from the other room. He blinks slowly, somewhat drowsy from drawing for a long time. Then he looks at the window to check how long until daylight.

I’ve got at least 3 hours.

His ears continue to move, picking up each of the slight noises from the mystery man in the other room. To distract himself from his nerves, he keeps drawing. Bare feet against linoleum, a few joints popping, a groan of pain and more footsteps. A drawer opens and the swishing of fabric on fabric indicates that he’s getting dressed. Theo sighs, drawing a few flowers and various shapes around the drawings of the human boy, before hearing the clink of his teeth hitting the porcelain mug and the crunch of the pastry. A crinkle of paper indicates the reading of the note, and the guy’s sharp gasp sends a shock down Theo’s spine. His hands begin shaking too hard to keep drawing, so he rests his head on crossed his arms and shuts his eyes. He never needed to sleep anymore, but he did always feel quite tired. It also never kept him from trying. Theo sighs and hears the sound of feet against the linoleum, and dreading the confrontation, he sits up slowly and rolls his head back, sighing.

I should have left hours ago.
