Walker
Part Twenty
The last time I saw a doctor was so long ago I almost forgot about it. Now being surrounded by medical professionals it has me remembering all over again. Ugh. "Oh my god!" I jumped a little at Marcus's dramatics. He's been on one since we left the apartment. "I just remembered."
"What did you remember?" I said, sighing.
"On a billboard, there was a special on puddings in McDonald's."
"All that excitement over pudding." I sighed again and crossed my arms over my chest, getting more comfortable in my seat.
"Yeah," he snapped. "It's pudding Walker, pudding. Only someone barmy like you would not get excited over something as fantastic as that."
"Barmy?"
"Yep, bonkers. That pudding looks the dogs bollocks."
"What?" I asked, now looking at him completely confused.
"Oh right. You don't understand some of my beautiful British vocabulary. I'll have to teach you." He said, grinning. I could almost see stars in his eyes and little happy happy clouds floating around his head.
"Mr Taylor!" A woman called. I shot up like a bomb just exploded in my ass and Marcus laughed. The last time a doctor called his name we found out he was pregnant, not possessed. But I'm still thinking he might actually be possessed.
"Come on Walker, it's baby time." He's so excited, which is a nice surprise. He didn't want anything to do with the baby at the start. Now he was literally walking on air, but that may also have been because of the awesome sex we had this morning and the disgusted look on Craig's face. Marcus was like that's one to tick off. Freaking out your cousin and yes, Craig was almost white as a ghost before he left.
"Good afternoon," The woman said around a big smile. "I'm sorry, Dr Arnold's called in sick this morning so I'm taking over his appointments today."
"That's fine…."
I started to say when Marcus cut in. "Wow! You're gorgeous."
I rolled my eyes. "That's fine, thank you for not canceling."
"Oh," she squeaked and blushed. "R...right, well. Is this your first baby?"
"Yes. Will you be doing a scan thingy? How does it work? Does it hurt?"
"Marcus, calm down," I spoke softly. He huffed and set back in the chair. "Sorry, he's very excited."
"Oh no no, don't apologize. It's wonderful and yes, we will go to the sonogram room shortly. I just need a little more information."
"Sure." I let out as a long breath. Marcus was again almost off his seat.
"What would you like to know?" He asked, leaning on the desk.
"Well just the basics so I can update the information on the system. So full name and date of birth, please."
"Right. It's Marcus Neil Taylor and my date of both is the twelfth of the ninth nineteen ninety six."
"Wonderful. Do you have any allergies?"
"Not that I know of."
"Address is the same as Mr Mathews?"
"Yes."
"Okay, so we have that. I have some forms for you both to fill out but that can wait until you get home, make sure to bring them on your next appointment."
I nodded and took the forms from the woman, then I thought I can't keep referring to her as woman. "I'm sorry, but what's your name?" I asked.
"Oh I'm so sorry, silly me. My name is Dr Baker, Jasmine Baker. I'm just a locum doctor, filling in when necessary."
"Thank you Dr Baker."
"Right, shall we go to the sonogram room?"
I nodded and Marcus looked like he might pop. I'm trying to be calm and collected and Marcus was throwing me off balance seeing the excitement in his face and walk. I also wanted to pop, but someone needed to hold it together. "When we get there I will leave you in the capable hands of Kelly, she's wonderful."
I saw a faint blush on Jasmine's face. How cute, I thought. But I couldn't find anything on Jasmine that would suggest she's an Alpha or Omega, must be a Beta. I guess they would be better worker's in a place like this, safer even. "Oh Walker look. Baby pictures everywhere."
I looked around and saw happy pictures of couples with their babies and little notes of thanks to accompany them. A lot of hetero couples, but a few only guy pictures. That was nice to see. "Right here we are, I'll let Kelly know you're both here. Please take a seat and wait to be called."
"Thank you Jasmine. Come on Walker."
I followed Marcus to two vacant seats as Jasmine left us. Jesus, there were couples everywhere. Now it was really starting to hit home. I'm going to be a dad….oh fuck! I'm going to be a dad. "I'm going to be a dad." I uttered under my breath.
"Well duh. Where the hell have you been?"
"I...well, I guess it's really sinking in now."
"I've been pregnant the whole time Walker."
"Of course I know that, but just being here is really hitting hard."
Marcus sniggered. "I'm the one who's gonna go through pain and get all ugly, think yourself lucky you don't have to go through that."
"You'll never be ugly."
"Awe, baby," he chides in my ear, leaning against me. "Hold my hand."
I smiled and took Marcus's hand in mine, it's sweaty and really hot. He's nervous. He acts all big but he's just as nervous as I am. Then I turned my head to look at him, he was staring at the wall in front of us, yet he held a smile. He looks so good today, I mean he looks damn good every day. But today he looked really really good. He had so much color to him. His skin tinted from the sun, cheeks pink and full and his hair pulled back off his neck, showing the bite mark. I was proud, so proud of him. Proud to show him off to the world. Proud to call him mine. Then I couldn't help myself and I let my other hand drift over and down his stomach. He sat back more so I could rub over the small bump that had started to show. "Feels good." I whispered.
"It does," I went to move my hand away, but he caught it and placed it back on his belly. "I didn't say stop."
I chuckled and settled back into rubbing my hand over his tummy. Soon I'll feel little kicks. Soon he will whine that the baby is doing back flips on his bladder and I'll laugh about it. Soon we'll go and buy baby stuff. That I was so excited about and making a nursery too. "I love you Marcus."
He rolled his head, now facing me. "I love you too," then he scrunched his nose. "What are you after?"
"Nothing," I smiled. Then he smiled. "I just wanted to tell you…."
"Mr Taylor!"
"Oh, it's us." Marcus was up and pulling me with him. He was almost skipping into the room, dragging me behind him. It was dimly lit. A bed and chair and some crazy ass looking machine.
"My name is Kelly, I will be your midwife until you are assigned your own for the rest of your pregnancy," she smiled and sat down by the machine. "Please lie on the bed Mr Taylor…"
"It's Marcus, call me Marcus. All I hear is my dad when you call me Mr Taylor."
"Oh right, sure," Kelly coughs and clears her throat. "So this will be a dating scan today and to check how the baby is doing and yourself, so if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Okay?"
I nodded. My mouth had gone too dry to even talk, but Marcus had enough energy for the both of us. "So, how does all this work?" He asked.
"Right. Well, I will put this gel on your tummy and tuck tissue paper around your clothing to protect it from the gel. The gel makes sure there is good contact between the machine and your skin. Then I will pass this probe over your skin and the baby will appear on this screen," she turned the screen so we had a full view of it. "Are you ready?"
"Not really, but probe away."
Kelly giggles and sets Marcus up, ready for...probing? That sounds way too weird, like something out of a science fiction movie. Then all of a sudden my heart nearly jumped out of my chest. Heartbeats. Very loud thumping heartbeats echoed around the room and my eyes fell on the screen. A baby. Oh christ. A baby. Then my mouth fell open. "...A baby. There's a baby."
"Yes," Kelly said, she didn't seem fazed at all. I guess she's heard way worse or seen worse. "Well, you are...oh my, your seventeen weeks and three days."
"Wait, what? Really?"
"Yes."
"But his belly is small."
"Not everyone has a big baby belly or sometimes they just pop out overnight."
"But, but he had sickness not long ago. It said in those baby books that stops around twelve weeks."
"Everybody is different. Some people don't hardly get any Pregnancy symptoms."
I looked at Marcus quickly, only because he was so deathly silent. He was staring at the screen, tears glittered in his eyes and his bottom lip was quivering. "Marcus?"
He didn't say anything. He just stared at the screen while Kelly moved that alien probe thing over his tummy. "The baby is growing beautifully. Perfect size. You will need to come back for a twenty week scan and routine blood tests, but other than that all you need to do is eat well, rest and look after…," she stopped and her eyes focused back on the screen. Fuck! Was something wrong? "Oh my…."
"What is it?" Marcus asked, worry warping his beautiful face.
"Oh, It seems you're having twins. Hold on."
Wait! Hold up! "Twins? What?"
"Sometimes, but very rarely do we miss twins. You tend to see more clearly at the twenty week Scan. But sometimes it depends. One baby could be tucked up behind the other….look, let me just move the probe over this way." Marcus hissed. "I apologize, it can be uncomfortable sometimes….ahh, here we are. Twin's."
"Oh fuck. We get two kids?" Kelly smiled and nodded towards Marcus. "Walker, there's two freaking babies in there."
"I...I know. Oh my god." Yeah. Oh. My. Fucking. God. Not one, but two. TWO!! Two babies. There's actually two babies in his belly.
"I will take photos that will then be printed off. How many would you like?"
"A million!" Marcus hollard.
"No, definitely not a million. Make it a few, please."
"But what if I wanted to plaster the whole wall in the living room?"
"Marcus, there's two babies. We don't need a million pictures, we have two babies. Two Marcus. Two."
"Okay he's actually scaring me," Marcus not so very gently punched me on the thigh. "Ignore him Kelly, he's kind of weird."
"Oh no no. I've seen more shocked people. This is normal. Just wait for a moment while I get the pictures printed off."
I couldn't believe it. Two. Two. Two….babies. I gulped but the lump that had formed in my throat was lodged right in there. Two. Fuck. Two babies. Double everything. "Walker?"
"Huh?"
"We get two babies….oh my god!" He was up right in seconds. "Does that mean I'm getting cut open Texas chainsaw massacre style?"
"Erm, Marcus…."
"No no. I'm not squeezing two kids out my ass. No way in hell am I doing that."
Again Kelly was giggling. "That will be something you'll go over with your assigned midwife on your next appointment, but for now take these pictures and make sure you rest up well. You will be sent a letter for the next appointment."
"Thank you." I said and stood, while Marcus sat having a silent meltdown.
"It's been eventful and very surprising. I wish you both the best of luck…."
Marcus suddenly grabbed Kellys hands. "Can you be my midwife?"
She smiled. "You never know, I could be assigned as your midwife."
"Oh god, I hope so." how cute. Marcus was holding onto the poor woman for dear life. She didn't seem to mind though.
"Marcus, let's go and feed you." As soon as I ever mention food he's up. It literally takes him seconds to snap out of any kind of mood when food is involved. But food wasn't my top priority, telling everyone we are having twins was now at the top of my list. Two babies. Double the joy. Double the love. I couldn't wait to see them. Hear two lot's of cries. See two sets of hands and feet and two equally cute baby faces. This wasn't going to be easy, but I know we will have so much fun, double the fun.
