As Flavius wonders when his father would come back, he can picture himself fighting the battle where his father and the Knights of Myrina are. He went outside his house and played with his wooden sword, as he imagined himself having enemies surround him, he placed the tip of his sword at the palm of his hand and the sword he can see brightens just like the sun, that is how Flavius pictured his power, a light that turns away darkness. As an enemy approaches from his back he was ready to release his power, he was ready for the killing blow, and then he turned his back while he swings his sword shouting “For Myrina!” when suddenly his swing was blocked by a staff, it was the old man he saw, he was there watching him fighting.
“ So I saw, you wanted to wield the light, not with this wooden sword you cannot”
“I don’t have a real sword yet, but someday I will, and I will slay those who harm Myrina and I am going to end this war”
“Oh, so you wanted to protect the kingdom, just like Mynathos the first of the Seven”
“Mynathos, my father told me how he saved Myrina, he faced a thousand enemies on his own for all the townspeople to escape inside the castle, he then sacrificed himself with the sword of Ethereal to cast a spell, one in which those with dark intentions cannot enter the kingdom and if they force themselves they get blinded by the light.”
“Your father clearly knows the history of the kingdom and it’s heroes, so tell me, why does a young man like you dream to become like Mynathos?”
“My father told me that I lost my mother during the last war, I have no memory of my mother, not her face nor her voice, but I always speak to her as I wonder if she could ever speak back. I want to end the war so that no one can lose their mother like I did, so that my father doesn’t have to be called again by the army.”
“What a noble cause, and if you do succeed in ending the war what do you think will happen?”
“ I haven’t thought of that sir. You have been asking me so many questions yet you haven’t given me your name.”
“We shall meet again young man, the next time I will give you my name, but for now give me your wooden sword.”
Flavius gives his wooden sword to the old man, the old man whispers to the sword and suddenly it became an iron sword, Flavius cannot believe what he has seen and blinks his eyes when the old man was handing it to Flavius
“Now take a swing of this sword”
“How were you able to do that?”
“As you go ahead in your life, you will get to witness a lot of things and discover the mysteries of this world, and if you truly follow your destiny young Flavius, you will have your answer”
“I don’t understand, how do you know my destiny?”
“I can see it in your eyes, your desire, and with that, the light shines upon you. Follow what you desire”
“I still don’t understand”
“You will soon enough, be brave and strong Flavius, now I must go”
As Flavius stares at his iron sword, the old man vanished instantly. Flavius ran toward a nearby tree as he wanted to swing the sword, as he shouts vigorously he swings his sword at the tree, he was only able to mark a small cut at the bark of the tree.
“The next time I swing at you, you will fall to the ground” as Flavius was looking at the tree, he sheathes his sword. As he lets go of the sword it became wooden again, he then hears footsteps approaching him, it was his friends Jeany and Vanne
“Flavius! What are you staring at the tree for?” Vanne laughing as he was asking Flavius
“Nothing, why are you both here anyway?” Flavius asking the two
“Don’t you remember? We planned to visit the shrine of the Seven, but before that I think we need to go to the market, I’m hungry” Jeany answered Flavius
“ I do, I was about to meet you in the inner city, but”
“But what?”
“Nothing, let’s get going then”
“Are you going to bring that sword with you? Hey we might fight monsters on the way, so it might be handy” Vanne laughing again as he asked Flavius
“Let me keep it first then, I’ll meet you in the market by the baker’s,” Flavius answered Vanne
“Good we’ll be getting food then, I am really starving. You better be there.”
“I will, I never break my promise”
As the two heads on, Flavius waits until they are far away, he then again unsheathes his sword and it became the iron sword the old man gave to him. He heads home immediately still confused but he hides the sword under his bed.
Flavius enters the inner city or Myrina, the place was busy as a lot of townsfolk were preparing for the return of the Knights of Myrina. Flavius hears immediately the pound of hammer as he gets near the town blacksmith, he then remembers his iron sword the market was nearby but Flavius decides to look around for the old man he has spoken to in the local tavern.
He asks the local tavern if they have seen an old man, he describes him as a tall man wearing a hood carrying a long wooden stick, the owner told Flavius none have gone to the tavern matching that description. He began to search for the old Man in the inner city, he looked for him in the tailor and the cobbler shops were a lot of townsfolk with fancy dress were gathering but the old man was not to be found. Flavius asked the towns guard the same thing but the answer was still the same, the old man was not seen. He then heard a call
“Oy little fellow, have you seen two boys walking around nearby?” It was the baker asking
“I just got here sir, perhaps you can give me a description so I can help you find them” Flavius knows the baker is referring to Jeany and Vanne but he wonders why the baker is asking
“The one lad’s got a pointy ear the other’s got a curly hair, the description enough?”
“Why are you looking for them sir baker might I ask?
“They promise to deliver something for me in exchange for some of my fresh glazed rolls, they haven’t come back, but they got my glazed rolls already”
“Those are my friends, they might be coming soon you just have to wait for them”
“I’m afraid I’ve waited far too long, you better find them or I’ll tell the guards they stole from me”
“Alright I will find them, but can I ask you something as well?”
“If you are asking for a fresh glazed roll I have none for you”
“No, I am looking for an old man, one with a long wooden stick with him who is wearing a hood”
“No, I was busy making those glazed rolls and preparing the goods that your friends have”
“Fine, let me find them and return what you have with them”
Flavius looks around for his two friends at the inner city all afternoon but they were none to be found he even went to their houses but where told that they weren’t there
Flavius runs towards the castle of Myrina, the last place he knew where to look for them was the shrine of the Seven, the white castle has a lot of guards and at the time, Flavius asked the guards if they saw his friends but still no answer. He asked if he can enter the shrine to look for them there, the guards told him that it was dark in there already but he insisted as he had nowhere else to look for them. He was then allowed and given a torch but he was warned that at night there were reports that spirits were roaming the shrine during the night, as he entered he never thought of the ghosts as he knew of it already and Flavius and his friends were curious about these ghosts that’s why they were eager to go to the shrine. He saw another torch and he felt relief as now he found his friends but as he came near the other torch he noticed that the only one person was there, and it wasn’t Jeany and Vanne but it was the princess of Myrina, Serena and upon seeing her, he was speechless. He and his friends talked about how beautiful the princess was when they see her from afar, but when he saw her in person. He forgot to bow.
“Apologies princess, I was looking for my friends, I thought they were here.”
“No one was here for the last hour except me. Why would they be here anyway if I may ask?”
“We planned visiting the shrine, we were to go here early but they have some errands with the baker earlier, and the baker asked me to look for them. Until now I can’t find them”
“What is your name again?”
“Flavius, princess”
“So Flavius, have you been here before?”
“No princess, but you won’t mind if I stay for a while, it’s my dream to be a Seven”
“Stay, I always go here during the night. They say they have ghosts here, I haven’t seen one ever”
“Are you not afraid of ghosts, princess”
“I wouldn’t be here if I was, right?” Both laughed as the princess answered
They continued sharing stories of the Seven, the first of the Seven Mynathos the first king of Myrina was Flavius’ favorite and what he wanted to be
“I want to be like Mynathos, how about you princess?
“I want to be like all of them, I want to be the first heroine of Myrina, the first lady Seven”
A mysterious man appeared all of a sudden, the two were struck when they saw an old man suddenly appearing before them it was the old man that Flavius was looking for
“It was destiny that brought you two here together. No need to be scared I am no ghost that you might have heard a story about, my name is Markon”
Markon suddenly raises his wooden stick and there was a light that immediately cast inside the shrine, with the power of the light, there they witness every battle fought by the heroes of Myrina.
“The Seven heroes of Myrina, every generation there was a hero who was chosen by the Light to vanquish that is the eternal darkness, the heroes Mynathos, Klandor, Imachus, Leonark, Aranthis, Srandriv and Ereand all having their statues in the shrine represented the seven generations of war against incarnations of Yvaros, the king of shadows. They led the fight against the forces of darkness that brought chaos to our lands.
“Serena and Flavius, I saw a vision, a light has been casted upon both of you, that is why both of you are here in this shrine, together you will fight the darkness that is Yvaros himself.”
“How can that happen, how are we chosen.” Flavius asked Markon
“All the heroes that you see in this shrine were chosen like you, only the light will know how it chose you but I saw a vision and I saw the two of you fighting side by side against the forces of darkness” Markon answered Flavius
“Does my father know about all of this?” Serena added
“He will know soon, but not everyone should know, as we do not know where the forces of darkness might arise”
A loud scream was heard outside the shrine, then suddenly the light inside faded slowly only leaving the light of the torches that Flavius and Serena held.
“Shadow hunters, both of you stand behind me” Markon instructed the two as he whispered unto his staff. With Markon’s powers they left the shrine unscathed
“Where are we, why are we not in the shrine anymore, how can that happen” Serena asking Markon
“This is our house” Flavius answered after discovering that they were inside his bedroom.
“Quickly Flavius, your sword, I placed a mark on it that is why we are transported here. I will hold them back as they are not far away, be ready to defend yourselves. Yvaros has summoned them.” Markon instructed Flavius to grab his wooden sword.
Flavius held his wooden sword which quickly transformed to an iron sword. Markon ran outside the house as he readied himself to face the Shadow hunters.
“Don’t worry princess, Markon will protect us.”
“I hope you are not wrong”
All of a sudden someone came inside the house
“My child” the person said to Flavius
“Who are you?” Flavius asked
“Do you not know, your own mother’s face”
“Mother?”
“Come to me my child”
Flavius confused, as it was the first time he saw what her mother looked like, let go of his sword and quickly ran towards her as he wanted to feel her mother’s embrace. Serena saw in her something different, a dark glow in her eyes then suddenly she felt everything moving slowly, she screamed at Flavius
“Flavius get back!”
Flavius heard nothing, then she saw the woman carrying a blade ready to strike Flavius, Serena quickly ran to Flavius sword and threw it towards the woman. The woman caught the sword and suddenly she changed appearance, Flavius realized that she changed in appearance and stopped running towards her. The woman was a Shadow hunter ready to kill Flavius, suddenly she turned towards Serena to kill her instead. Flavius quickly ran towards the Shadow hunter but realized he won’t be able to prevent what was about to happen. His heart was pounding still, after what he saw, then suddenly he felt a surge of power, a glow of light surrounded Flavius’ body, the wooden sword quickly slipped out of the hunter’s hand and returned to Flavius, as he held the sword it quickly turned again to an iron sword the light that surrounded Flavius’ body also surrounded the sword. Flavius only having the thought of saving the princess swung the sword towards the shadow hunter, the sword gave off a wave of light slashing the back of the shadow hunter, the hunter screamed of pain as she turned into a pile of ashes. Flavius grew weak all of a sudden and passed out, Serena ran towards him trying to wake him up then Markon arrived. He realized that the pile of ashes were from the remains of a shadow hunter, then he saw Serena beside Flavius who was lying down passed out. He held Flavius hands and whispered, Flavius woke up after.
“What happened to the hunter? Are you okay princess?” Flavius forgot what happened so he asked Serena
“You killed her Flavius, with your sword” Serena answered.
“There seem to be no sign of the hunters, we are safe for now. You both truly are chosen by the light, no one can kill a shadow hunter except those chosen. We must go to your father Serena, in the castle we will be protected.” Markon explained to both Serena and Flavius that they were both chosen by the light, sworn to protect it against the forces of Yvaros.
“You both must be ready, Yvaros will now come for you. Up on your feet Flavius, this will not be your last fight”
