The other guy comes into the room and when his eyes fall onto Theo, his face darkens. Theo stands and puts out a hand with a sheepish, close-mouthed smile. The stranger scowls at him for a moment, then steps toward him.
“Who are you? How did you get in here?” He asks, jabbing an accusatory finger at Theo. As Theo begins attempting to defend himself, the other boy squares his shoulders. Theo tries not to laugh- he was at least three inches taller than him and could easily take him out with one hit.
“I’m so sorry, if you’d just let me ex-” Theo begins, but the boy cuts him off.
“Just answer the question,” He says. His face softens for a moment. “...Please.” It was clear he was scared of Theo in that moment. His heart rate was already fast, but it clearly spiked when he realized he was no match for the man in his house. Theo’s hand finds its place at his side and he looks to his feet.
“I know just as much as you do. One moment I was…” He cuts himself off before he says something that’d really mess up his chance of some sort of reconciliation with this stranger. “One moment I was walking to the boy’s dorms, and then I woke up in your room. I really have no idea how it happened,” He pauses for another moment, sighing and turning his eyes back up with an apologetic smile. “My name’s Theodore. I go by Theo.”
The boy looks at Theo with his upturned eyes that somehow remained sweet despite the anger behind them. He crosses his arms over his chest and grumbles something, then continues, “You really don’t know how you got here, then?”
Theo shakes his head. He felt bad for lying- well, not lying so much as playing dumb. The other guy lets his guard down a little and relaxes, sinking a bit shorter than he already was. He sighs and reaches for a handshake.
“My name’s Jamie.” Theo smiles again and grabs Jamie’s hand, giving a firm handshake and then crossing his arms over his chest. He looks over Jamie, trying to take in his face before he leaves.
“I should go. I’m sorry I stayed here for so long. I just wanted to make sure you were alright when you woke up.” Theo sighs and heads towards the door. Jamie opens his mouth to speak but stops himself. He, instead, follows Theo to the door and opens it for him, nodding when thanked. Theo feels Jamie's eyes follow him as he walks down the hall, and when he steps into the elevator, he hears the door shut. A click from the door lock prompts a sigh from Theo. He wondered if he'd ever see Jamie again, but smiles at his own stupidity.
Why would he ever want to see me? The stranger who apparently woke up in his house.
Theo chuckles.
Why would I want to see him?
