Accidental pregnancy

Chapter - Four

Chapter - Four

Jul 16, 2020

(Nate P.O.V)

It didn’t take much time for my physical examination test results to come. As I anxiously awaited the news, I found myself working from home to keep my mind occupied. The uncertainty of what the results might reveal was a constant presence in the back of my mind, but I tried my best to stay focused on my work.

Then, just as I was engrossed in a task, my phone rang, breaking the silence in the room. I picked it up with a mix of anticipation and apprehension, and it was the call I had been waiting for.

“Hello, Nate? This is Dr Matthew,” said the familiar voice on the other end of the line. “I have your test results, and I’d like to discuss them with you in person. I’ve booked an appointment for you tomorrow.”

My heart skipped a beat, and I felt a knot forming in my stomach. While I appreciated that the doctor wanted to discuss the results face to face, the immediacy of the appointment made me feel uneasy. What could be so urgent that they needed to see me tomorrow?

“Thank you, Dr Matthew,” I replied, trying to keep my voice steady. “I’ll be there tomorrow as scheduled.”

We exchanged a few more pleasantries before ending the call, but my mind was already racing with questions. What could the results reveal? Was it something serious? The unknowns were both terrifying and overwhelming.

Taking a deep breath, I reminded myself that I couldn’t jump to conclusions. I needed to wait until the appointment tomorrow when the doctor would explain everything clearly. Until then, I had to try my best not to let my imagination run wild with speculation.

Resuming my work, I attempted to distract myself from the nagging thoughts, but it was easier said than done. Time seemed to pass slowly, and the weight of the upcoming appointment hung over me like a dark cloud.

On the following day, as promised, Arabella drove us to the hospital. Her reassuring presence and the warmth of her hand in mine helped to ease some of the nervousness that gripped me. We walked together through the hospital’s entrance, heading towards the receptionist’s desk.

“Hi, we have an appointment with Doctor Matthew,” I informed the receptionist, trying to steady my voice.

She looked up from her desk and smiled, “Of course! He’s expecting you. Please go ahead and take a seat in the waiting area, and I’ll let him know you’re here.”

Arabella and I found a spot in the waiting area, where the atmosphere was a mixture of anticipation and uncertainty. We exchanged a few words to distract ourselves from the moment’s gravity, but the underlying tension was hard to ignore.

After a brief wait, the receptionist gestured for us to follow her. “Doctor Matthew is ready to see you now. His office is just down the hall, second door on the left.”

We nodded our thanks and followed her directions. As we approached the door, my heart raced, knowing that whatever news awaited us would shape the path ahead.

I knocked gently on the door, and a voice from within called, “Come in.”

Arabella and I walked into the room, where Doctor Matthew greeted us with a warm smile. “Welcome, Nate. Arabella,” he said, acknowledging both of us. “Please, take a seat.”

Dr Matthew, a compassionate urologist with years of experience, reviewed the results of Nate’s physical examination. His face wore a mix of concern and professionalism as he prepared to share the findings with his patient. I sat anxiously on the examination table, his mind flooded with worries, and Arabella stood beside him, her hand gently resting on his shoulder.

After a brief pause, Dr Matthew began, “Nate, we received the results from your physical examination, and I want to be upfront with you. We found a suspicious lesion on your penis, and given the nature of the finding, I believe a biopsy is necessary to gather more information about your condition.”

My heart sank, and my mind raced with questions. “A biopsy? What does that mean, doctor? Is it serious?”

Dr Matthew maintained a calm demeanour, understanding the fear in my eyes. “A biopsy is a procedure where we will take a small tissue sample from the suspicious area. It will help us determine if the lesion is cancerous or if there is any other underlying condition. I understand this might be overwhelming, but it’s an essential step in obtaining a definitive diagnosis.”

Arabella tightened her grip on my hand, offering silent support, while Dr Matthew continued, “I want to assure you that we are here to support you through this process. Biopsies are standard procedures, and we will make sure you’re as comfortable as possible during the test.”

I took a deep breath, trying to process the information. “Okay, I trust your judgment, Dr Matthew. When can we schedule the biopsy?”

“We can schedule it for the day after tomorrow,” Dr Matthew replied, scribbling down the appointment on a notepad. “I understand the anxiety, but it’s crucial to move forward with this test. Once we have the results, we’ll be better equipped to outline the most appropriate treatment plan for your specific situation.”

I nodded, trying to find some sense of reassurance amidst the uncertainty. “Thank you, Dr Reynolds. I’ll do the biopsy.”

“I’m glad to hear that,” Dr Matthew said with a supportive smile. “I want to emphasize that early detection is essential, and we’re committed to guiding you through this journey every step of the way.”

Arabella stepped forward, her voice filled with unwavering determination. “We’re in this together, Nate. We’ll face it as a team.”

Dr Matthew nodded in agreement. “Indeed. Having a strong support system makes all the difference.”

We thanked the doctor and walked out f the office. When Arabella walks towards the driver's seat I stopped her and tell her that I will drive us back today. She opened her mouth to argue with me but I told her that I need it, she nodded in understanding and walk towards the passenger door. We get inside the door and drive home.
