“My apologies Alpha.” I state in monotone. I kneel, my head down and my fist over my heart. All to show a respect I don’t really have. But, hey at least he knows that.
“We all know you don’t really mean that so get up and go to your seat so we can get started. You have already delayed us enough.” Alpha Stone all but barks out at me clearly trying to keep his temper in check as he resists the urge to strangle me.
A slight smirk plays on my lips as I go to sit down. I can see Colt give me an angry glare as the Alpha starts the meeting.
“Firstly, as I’m sure some of you have already heard, The Blackwater pack is sending a diplomatic party to River Valley.” He states in a formal tone as if he was talking to more than three people. “Many of their higher ranks will be in attendance. Accommodations have been made for them to stay in town; however, they have permission to roam Red Moon territory as they please.” I roll my eyes at that last comment. Having a foreign pack roam our territory unsupervised with free reign is just asking for a takeover. He gives me a stern look as he continues. Though I’m not sure wither it’s to scold me for the eye roll or to make sure I know he is directing his next statement toward me. “Everything is to proceed as normal. Though I expect all members to be on their best behavior.” Though his eyes had traveled during his declaration they landed on me once more to stress the importance of ‘all’, as if I couldn’t already tell he was talking about me and the other omegas. I give him a glare of my own before questioning him.
“If everything is to remain normal, what is this I hear about omegas being confined to their caves?” I cut him off before he could answer me, “None of the other ranks have been restricted, there is no reason for the omegas to be put under such limitation.” He rests his forehead in the palm of his hand, already tired of this topic. Good that will make it a lot easier to correct this issue.
“Your omegas tend to cause trouble, Alin. I want the Black Water pack members to feel as though everything is calm and that their arrival has done nothing to faze this pack.” He finally lifts his head in order to try and emphasize his point. “We can’t show them that we are levelheaded and strong if your omegas are running around like chickens with their heads cut off just because one them smelled a strong dominate.”
I clench my jaw and feel the hackles of my wolf stand at full alert. It’s not uncommon for an omega to become nervous around powerful dominates but he was exaggerating, and I was offended by his complete lack of trust in those of my rank. I take a deep breath before defusing his argument. “Confining omegas to their caves will do nothing for you. It will show separation and a lack of trust within your pack, along with installing more fear in your members.”
After a few more minutes of back and forth, the Alpha lets out a large sigh. “Fine. But you will stay at the caves for the duration of their stay. I want a constant watch on the omegas and if they cause the slightest bit of trouble all omegas will be confined to their caves for a month. Including you.” He gives me a stern look.
“Yes, Alpha.” I reply feeling proud of myself. He may be talking a big game now, but I know that that won’t happen.
We continued with the meeting, addressing all important pack matters. The Alpha relayed to us that the Black Water party should be here in the next days and that all available members where to welcome them.
Once everything was settled the Alpha took his leave. As the sound of his footsteps fade, I turn to talk to Duncan. Unfortunately, I’m met with Colt instead. His stormy blue eyes glare at me from a sea of freckles, somehow unobstructed by light brown curls. He stands at the same six-foot height as me, though he tries to appear taller by puffing out his chest.
“I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that the Alpha hasn’t killed you yet.” Colts lip raises slightly to one side, showing his displeasure at my existence.
I roll my eyes; I seriously don’t have the patience for him today. His presence alone had my wolf on edge again and if we continued this conversation, I know it will end in a fight. “Sorry Colt as much as I would love to continue this, totally original and not at all repetitive, conversation, I have actual business to attend to today. So on that note I must take my leave.” I give a small bow to end my sarcastic speech and walked away before he could respond.
I could feel the anger drifting off Colt in waves and couldn’t help but chuckle to myself. Now that I’ve successfully evaded him I need to get back to the task at hand. “Duncan.” I called out to get his attention. He quickly stopped his pursuit of the exit, turning around to face me.
His vibrant blue eyes and button nose matched his twin sister’s feminine features though the addition of a shorter version of their blond hair and tapered brown beard made them seem like the most masculine things on the planet. Definitely fitting for the Red Moon dominate representative.
“Hey, Alin, to what do I own the pleasure?” He said in his calm, honey like voice. Out of all the people in the Red Moon pack Duncan is definitely the most levelheaded. A sense of calm washes over me as he talks.
“Nothing good I’m afraid.” I tell him with a light chuckle. Duncan’s charmingly relaxed smile turned in to a tired one at the all too familiar situation. “It seems your lovely twin is at it again.”
“What has AnnaJames done this time?” He sighs. I give him a small sympathetic nod before answering.
“It’s the third time this week that I’ve found one my Omegas beaten by her hand. I understand that your family comes from a long line of dominate representatives and Alphas, but she needs to understand that that reputation can’t protect her from everything.” I explain in the calmest voice I can muster. “AnnaJames, has been warned in the past, Duncan, and she still continues to break the rules I’ve set in place. As her highest ranked family member, I ask your consent to put the right repercussions in place in order to correct this behavior.”
He sighs once more. “You have full authority to do whatever you see fit. This behavior of her’s is getting out of hand and it is reflecting badly on my family. I thank you for bringing this to my attention once more and verifying with me before taking action. We both know you have the power to go over my head in this matter and I appreciate your restraint in doing so.” Duncan shakes my hand.
“Duncan, you are one of the few people I respect, I would never go over your head.” We shared a mutual nod of respect before going our separate ways. I needed to deal with AnnaJames as quickly as possible so I could make my rounds and get back to the bar.
