“Senior, I love you!”
It was 8 AM, Friday, August 20.
“I love you too,” Xuyun said. The boy looked embarrassed, his head down.
“I know, I’m sorry. I just want to tell you this — WHAT??” He was so shocked that his eyes almost jumped out of their socket.
“It is Sui Shizi, special class grade 4-3. Is that right?”
“Yessir!” He straighten his back, arms stiffed.
“I like you too,” Xuyun smiled.
The boy gasped for air, his face blushed like tomatoes. “Your smile is so handsome, senior!”
It was just like him, blurted out everything that came into his mind.
Xuyun walked toward him, grabbed his wrist and pulled him into his embrace. It was warm. This guy was alive. BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! His heart was thumping excitedly, like always. Xuyun had held him countless times, when he was alive, when he was cold and dying. Even though human could share their body warmth, they couldn’t transfer their heat to a corpse.
Yes, he had tried.
But, no matter how much spiritual power or life force he sent to Sui, they would never work out. He would still die, on the same day, one the same time. Xuyun had tried so many times he lost count, until he realized that one couldn’t change the future. Death time was definite, as Sui said.
But, Xuyun still wanted to hold him. One day wasn’t enough. Even if he had repeated it so many times, it was still not enough.
It wasn’t like this at the first time.
It was Friday, August 20, the first August 20.
Xuyun walked through the old corridor between the field and laboratory after his weekly duty. Sui was there, standing stiffly. He heard footsteps, turned toward Xuyun, and bowed down.
“Senior, I love you!”
He didn’t even check if it was the right person or not. As if, he knew that only Xuyun would walk here at this moment.
Xuyun stared at him. Was he confessing to the wrong person? This was a guy, right? He wanted to go away, but, he was the only person there. Maybe this guy really confessed to him?
He tried to identify this person, but no one came into his mind. “Who are you?”
Sui raised his head, loudly shouted, “I’m Sui Shizi, special class grade 4-3, senior. I had loved you since grade 2.”
Xuyun made a quick impression of the boy in front of him. Short, dark hair, babyface, weak-looking, a pretty ordinary person. Xuyun never remembered anyone’s name, except the significant fighters he had fought with before. Let alone, a special class student. His and this boy’s department were so far apart.
Xuyun never give a damn about courtesy or people’s feeling. So he said coldly, “I can’t love you back.” Then he walked past the boy.
He had no time for love. That soft thing just wasn’t for him. He didn’t have the right to have them. His world was just too different. He was born to be a man in a brutal world. There was still so much injustice. He just didn’t have any time to look sideway or take a rest.
Xuyun never turned to look back to the boy again.
The next day, school principal announced that yesterday, one of student got murdered by a class S criminal that had been missing for years. Turned out, the student they mentioned was Sui Shizi, the weak-looking special class student who confessed to him yesterday. He got hit by a truck that the criminal drove and died miserably.
The criminal usually done his mischief in secret, perfectly, without leaving any witness or victim for the police to find. This time, looked like he had accidentally hit someone when trying to escape, and that poor victim happened to be a young student.
After that, the police never find him again, like years before. They finally got clue from what the criminal accidentally left behind, yet the criminal still disappeared like smoke. The government of course, assigned all proffesional fighters, the ones with outstanding physical abilities and the ones with powerful supernatural abilities, yet there was no result.
A week later, another big crime happened. The criminal disappeared again.
Had no other options, the government called Xuyun. They told him to turned back to the day the criminal made a mistake, and ambushed him before he could do anything. They told him it was fine even if he failed, but he must found out what abilities the criminal had.
Only higher ups knew about Xuyun’s second ability. He usually depend on his physical ability, so people only knew that he was a physical type, but in fact, he was the only one in the world that had two abilities. He had power to turn back the time, the power to change the past and the future. Knowing his dangerous ability, government decided to keep it hidden as their trump card.
So, he turned back to August 20, the second August 20.
Exactly, at 8 AM, a familiar figure turned his face toward Xuyun and said loudly, “Senior! I love you!”
This guy, who confessed to him twice, if he could capture the criminal, could this guy avoid death and still be alive until tomorrow?
“You…,” Xuyun said. “Be careful today.”
The boy was stunned. “??”
Be careful, don’t get killed for the second time. But Xuyun couldn’t tell him what would happen next because it would disrupt the future. He just said, “Sorry I can’t return your feelings.”
The boy slowly returned to his senses. He smiled awkwardly, “senior, I’m Sui Shizi, special class grade 4-3. I have loved you since grade 2. I just wanted to tell you this,” he paused. “Thank you so much for listening.”
Xuyun’s eyes met his. His eyes were clear, he could see his own reflection on them. He bowed again quickly, then turned back. He ran with his head down.
Last time, he just coldly rejected him and went away. This time, Xuyun said more, this wouldn’t change the future course, right? He quickly followed the boy and secretly watched as he moved.
Surprisingly, he planned on skipping class. Xuyun watched him as he piled up unused school’s tools, making a step stone to jump on the school walls. Weird, was he skipping school because of his rejection? Or was he came to school just to confess to Xuyun?
He went to an arcade. Because he was still wearing the school uniform, he quickly pulled a grey jacket from his bag and wore it. Xuyun watched him as he played a lot of machines. He was quite terrible at playing, it seemed.
People usually kept quiet when they were losing to save face, but he was making a lot of noises, cursing and kicking the machines as he threw tantrum. A gang of thus noticed him, ready to teach some son a bitch a lesson for disturbing their turf.
Surprisingly, instead of running away, the wimp put on a tough face and set up a fighting stance.
Xuyun watched him as he got beaten, half dead. Not dead, because he would eventually be killed by another criminal. He watched him as he got up, face full of bruises, went to the colosseum.
He lined in a long queue before facing the ticket counter. He stared at his wallet, flipped it a few times, before he walked out of the line with depressed face. He looked at the huge colosseum building from distance, then he changed his sight to the sky which had changed into orange colour. He lifted his arm to look at the watch.
Xuyun knew it. This was the time and place where the accident would happen. Where was the criminal? Everything seemed normal. Xuyun sharpen his sensor and watched as Sui walked besides the traffic light. Recalling that last time he died from a car crash, Xuyun quickly came out of his hiding and walked closer to the boy.
Suddenly, he could sensed a lot of magnetic field appeared from his right side. A huge portal came from nowhere, a huge truck came from inside, rushing toward them. Xuyun could see the criminal from the car’s windshield. He shouted to Sui, “RUN AWAY!” before ran toward the truck at maximum speed.
They crashed each other. Xuyun tried to hold the truck force with his power, he got dragged a few metres before it stopped. Xuyun quickly broke the windshield and strangled the criminal before he could do anything. He pointed his sword to the his neck, ready to cut it.
But he heard the criminal chuckled.
A powerful force came out from behind, pulling the truck backwards. Xuyun could sense the magnetic force once again, and it tried to suck them in. Not just them. The force was too strong it could even pulled the colosseum building in.
Xuyun gripped his sword harder, ready to end the bastard’s life, before he said,
“If you don’t let me go, your friend will never get out from that darkness.”
Xuyun got stiffed. Was he talking about the Sui guy? He got sucked inside?? Didn’t he told him to go away earlier??
Xuyun had countered this situation so many times, usually he would always think of a most rational decision without blinking an eye. He would choose a decision that would benefit the most. But, this time, he couldn’t help but cursed in his heart, why, even though he had interfered, the victim was still the same guy from before??
But he couldn’t think for too long or the victim would multiplied. He slit the criminal’s neck, his head rolled outside the truck. Behind it, the portal disappeared.
The next day, the news of the wanted criminal appeared on all of the media. All people talked about was this dangerous criminal, the peace that would come after this, and the hero that had saved so many lives. No one grieved for the poor special grade student, a victim in the accident, except his close friends.
The report Xuyun gave to the higher ups was that he failed in protecting the student, thus he asked for a punishment. Yet, all he got was a promotion, making him even more famous among the citizens.
“He also died as a hero, without his sacrifice, a lot of people will die. He must have known this himself up there.”
There was nothing wrong with the statement; Xuyun who grew in military background knew better than anyone, there was no war without deaths, there was no peace without violence. But Xuyun got annoyed by the fact that, even though he could easily defeated the bad guy, he couldn’t save one life that should have avoid death. It was his second death, even though he got second chance, he still died.
Wasn’t that annoying?
So, he broke the government rule and said the keyword again,
“Repeat.”
He turned back to August 20, the third August 20.
And instead of ‘be careful’, he said to the boy, “don’t skip class today.”
The boy got stiffed as usual, like a rat that had been busted, his face gradually turned red. “Yessir!”
That day, he didn’t skip class. He got into his classes on time, had his lesson, took a lunch break as other students did.
Sometimes, Xuyun caught him glancing at his way sneakily. When Xuyun glanced back, their gazes met for a second, before the other’s eyes looked away. Xuyun didn’t shift his eyes. He didn’t, because he knew that Sui would glanced back at him when he had shifted his eyes as well. That was true, because Sui really did glance back at him again.
“Is he gay?” A chuckled voice came behind Xuyun’s back. “Oh, that’s the fortune teller.”
“Fortune teller?”
“Yeah, he got special ability, looking into the future. Why is he keep glancing at you? Maybe you got a dark or funny future? Like something funny will happen to…”
Noticing the death glare that was directed to him, he shut his mouth.
Looking into the future? Could he see his own death too?
If he really could, why didn’t he avoid it? If he could see when, where, and how would he die, why did he keep getting killed? That was the ultimate advantage of being able to see your own future.
“Oh, but I heard he avoids looking straight into people’s eyes. Avoiding from accidentally looking into their future. Well, if you could look into other people’s future every time you look at their face, it will become troublesome, right? So, he only look when they ask him to.”
A person who could look into future, but refused to look, was it? Did he refuse to look into his future too? How foolish.
At 5 PM, Xuyun waited in front of the colosseum. At exact 6:50, a portal appeared, and so was the truck. He killed the criminal even more quickly this time.
He believed that he had changed the future properly this time, before he heard a similar news as last time. Sui Shizi, special class grade 4-3, at 6 PM, August 20, fell from the school bridge, he landed on a fence, which pierced his lungs, causing instant death.
It was this time that Xuyun realized he couldn’t save Sui Shizi’s life no matter how many times he had tried to change to change the past’s course.
