The next section of the book is from Kyle’s point of view.
That Jack Silvercauther guy was super weird. I felt like he was related to Blackbeard or something because his name sounded so much like a pirate.
“Hey, Lindsay. What’s up?”
“Nothing much."
“I got you something,"
“What is it?”
Here goes.
“It’s a brand-new Antler bow!”
“Oh, my gosh! Thank you so much!”
“Welcome. Only cost me an arm and a leg."
We both laughed. With most of the people on the island missing or dead, money had become a joke between us.
“You’re insane!” Lindsay muttered.
“I know!” I said.
“I know you know." Lindsay grinned
I walked over to Jack, who was busy doing sword practice in the training room.
I asked, “tired yet?”
He replied, “to be honest, I feel like my arms are on fire, and I'm about to die, but I might as well keep going, because who knows when that hybrid’s gonna show up."
I heard Lindsay ask, “hybrid?”
“Yes," Jack replied, “It’s a genetically modified dinosaur. It’s a mix between an Indoraptor, Indominus Rex, Compsognathus, Scorpion, and Raptor. It’s highly dangerous. It’s trained to kill any humans on sight. We’re pretty sure Alex trained it." He holds up his sword. “This is one of the very few types of metal that can cut through its thick scales,"
I went outside with Lindsay. I made sure the coast was clear and then ran to the back of the shelter. In the woods, I’d laid out a shooting range. She, as always, had her bow, but this time, it was the new one I got her.
We both started shooting targets, moving a step back every time we got a bullseye, which was pretty much every time. Then, we raised the stakes. We climb up the nearest tree so that we can practice long-range.
Neither of us missed, so we took a break and camped out in the top branches of a tall oak tree.
Suddenly, Lindsay asked, “Did you see that?”
“See what?” I replied.
“Maybe it was nothing…," she said hesitantly.
“Tell me if you see it again," I cautioned.
I looked into the sky. It was night, and I could see all of the stars.
“Up there!” I whispered.
“Yes?” Lindsay replied, “What is it?”
“Look. It’s the Little Dipper!”
“Wow! I see it now!”
“I hear something. Shhh," I muttered.
“Don't... move... a... muscle."
I felt a tap on my shoulder… I looked back, and it was… Jack!
What’re you two lovebirds doin’ up here?” Jack grinned teasingly.
Lindsay slapped him and turned red.
“Down! Now!” She shouted.
He left, and Lindsay and I followed not too long afterwards.
We made our way back into the bunker. It was midnight. This day in Jurassic Kingdom was over. We’d survived.
I woke up the next morning, and Lindsay was already up and at it, practicing with her new bow. Jack, on the other hand, was snoring away. I got up and stretched for probably a good five minutes. I got down some Dinosaur-Os - yes, everything was super cheesy on the island - and poured some into my cereal bowl.
“Now you’re a cereal killer,” she giggled.
I laughed. I went over and wrapped Jack in his blanket, and I said, “This is the FBI! You have five minutes to eat, get dressed, and practice with your sword before we take you captive and feed you to the dinosaurs!”
“I swear, that’s the fastest I’ve seen him run in his life," I said.
Lindsay started shaking with silent laughter as we hid and watched him.
“Revenge!” She said in a singsong voice.
Jack pinned me down.
“1-2-3! You’re out!” Jack yelled.
“Argh!” I moaned. “Really?”
“Deal with it!” Jack replied. The day began like yesterday: a sunny light and a crap ton of dinosaurs. Lindsay had just finished making breakfast with the food she found in the forest when a scraping noise came from the left side of the bunker. Jack looked outside and saw a tail, but the tail was curved upwards, like a scorpion.
“What? What kind of dino could that be?” He asked. I saw its red eyes, and I stopped.
“Get in the basement! Now!” I screamed as Lindsay started towards the basement, and Jack pulled out his sword.
“I’ll deal with this," Jack said ‘bravely’. You know, I hate using that word to describe Jack.
“No, I'll go," said Lindsay.
“The smart thing to do would be to stay in the basement," I replied. Jack sheathed his sword and went into the basement. I soon followed.
“Kyle, I hear something," Lindsay said as a noise that sounded like a bag had hit something resounded through the room.
Hours passed, and we kept hearing things fall, or things crash down from the counters. Soon, the sounds stopped, and I went to check if the coast was clear.
“Coast is clear," I whispered. Things like vases and lamps were destroyed. The place was a total disaster.
I walk around.
My things in my room are scattered everywhere.
Lindsay’s old bow had been snapped in half.
Jack’s belongings had been scattered everywhere.
Lindsay had started crying over her bow. I understood. She’d carved it herself, slowly and meticulously.
Jack had stared at something on the ground. His eyes welled up with tears.
“That was my only picture of my family… my real family,” he whispered as he bent down to collect pieces of a photograph.
I had feelings for Lindsay, so seeing her cry made me heartbroken.
Seeing Jack crying, because he was my best - and only living - friend, made me feel pretty bad too.
“I promise I will aim to kill that thing without mercy for as long as I live. This picture was everything to me. It was taken the day before the dinner before my dad died. Before the rest of my family died in a boating accident. That thing will die," Jack said as he grabbed his sword and started screaming.
“You better show your face, you stupid monster!!!” He yelled.
Lindsay had started crying again.
Then, Jack yelled, “Help!” as something grabbed him and pulled him to the other side of the bunker. I started running as fast as I could.
“I’m coming!” I yelled.
Lindsay followed behind me.
I finally saw the creature. It was about six feet tall and twelve feet long with a horn on the tip of its nose, it looked like an Indoraptor with a mutated scorpion tail wanting to puncture Jack, spikes as big as his head, and electrified goo falling out of its mouth. Jack had dropped his sword and was holding the creature’s mouth as it tried to bite his head off. Then Lindsay came out of nowhere and grabbed Jack’s sword. She ran the sword through its back.
“THAT WAS FOR BREAKING MY BOW!!” She screamed. Man, that was the loudest thing I think I had ever heard her say. It stumbled but regained balance as it took out the sword with its claws and flung it against the bunker. Its face was four inches from Lindsay’s. Jack stabbed it in the back, and it was breathing heavily and ran into the forest.
“Come back!” Lindsay screamed
“Let it run. It’s only a coward," Jack said, which made me feel a bit safer. We got back inside and all agreed to clean up this mess. After that was over, Jack went back to practicing with his sword, in case that creature came back, and Lindsay practiced with her new bow to get over the pain of losing her other one.
Later that evening, after we had all calmed down somewhat, we decided to explore the remains of Jurassic Kingdom.
We came out to this pizza place on the island, and guess what? Free pizza!
The pizza hadn't gone bad yet. We had a miniature pizza party at the bunker and all went to sleep that night with our stomachs filled with pizza, and with most of our most important belongings gone. Soon, our lives changed forever, and I will never forget what happened next.
