It was a bright, sunny morning when I woke up. Jack was practicing with his sword on a dummy.
“Just got to be ready when it comes back!” Jack said.
Lindsay was using the antler bow to shoot targets she had placed, and as for me, well, I was wondering - wondering what would happen next, wondering where it would happen, and wondering how it would happen. I got up and started making breakfast to clear my mind.
“What does everyone want to eat?” I said.
“Cereal!” Lindsay replied.
“Bacon and eggs!” Jack said, “And grits and sausage!”
“Hey, I thought that made up a song one time," I replied.
“We need to get our breakfast before we go exploring again," I pointed out. I forgot what they said, but I think they said Yeah, you are the best! or something like that. Then came a knock. A knock on the door!
“Holy crap! Who could that be?” Jack said.
Just FYI, Jack loved to use the word “crap” in every sentence he said.
I answered the door, and some kid just walked into the bunker like he owned the place.
“ My name is Mark," he replied
“Wait, Mark?!” Jack replied.
“You know this kid?” Lindsay asked.
“I thought you died!” Jack said in disbelief.
“Could have thought the same," Mark replied. So apparently, this kid just walks into our bunker and is all like oh, I am better than everyone. Oh yeah.
He was dumb, of course. He was Jack’s friend, though, so we had to be nice to him.
Jeez, he sucked.
I very strongly disliked him. Very.
He liked Halo, though, so he was alright most of the time. Turns out he’d found a working Xbox. So we ate breakfast with him and he found himself a room in the basement.
This was a small bunker that fit three people at most. Adding a fourth, I felt like I was about to burst out of the bunker.
His weapon was a... wait, that was his weapon? Fine. His weapon was a... stick, he called it a Bow Staff or something like that.
I think that made him sound like an old man with a cane. He and Jack were starting up a conversation, so I figured I might as well go practice shooting with Lindsay. We went to the ruins of Jurassic Kingdom without telling Jack or Mark. We also went to the aviary. There happened to be an old ATV, so she and I went on a ride back to the bunker. Jack was waiting impatiently outside, and said, “What have you lovebirds been doing the past 20 minutes?”
I blushed.
“Nothing!” I replied. “We just got an ATV from the aviary of Jurassic kingdom, along with 70 gallons of gasoline."
“Sure you were. Okay, well I have some bad news. The creature came back and injured Mark. He’s in a bad condition."
I perked up. “He's in a bad condition? I can help! One of my foster parents was a doctor and told me everything he did at work each day."
“Wait, so you learned everything you know about medical stuff from hospital stories?” Jack asked.
“Yup," I stated.
“Yep, he has finally gone insane. Lindsay, I need you to hold him down while I go get his medication. Because he’s a medical expert," Jack said with a smirk.
Nobody laughed.
“Sorry. Trying to make light of the situation,” he explained.
“It's ok," I said.
“Okay. I found an electronic map of the entire Jurassic Kingdom and a little bit past the forest. We can track the creature using the map," I said.
“Nice. How do we use it?” Jack replied.
“I put a tracker on the dino, and because the map is electronic, It beeps when you get closer to it."
“Okay, so we can split into groups. I’ll be with Lindsay. Jack, you will have to be by yourself."
“Stop being lovebirds for a minute, and let's get going,"
“Okay, I’m going," I muttered.
“You keep using that word,” Lindsay quipped. “I don’t think it means what you think it means,"
I went down into the bunker. I love to build advanced equipment with spare parts I found around the park as well as special metal from the island’s science lab.
As the clock flashed midnight I thought, “Wow, we have survived, and another day at Jurassic kingdom is over,” When I woke up, I had a strange feeling about today. I was the first one up, and it was 6:00 am. This was strange. Usually, I got up at 09:00.
"Lindsay, Jack, up and at it!" I said.
Nothing.
"Lindsay, Jack, get up!!!"
Nothing.
I was so scared. Anything could’ve happened to them. I went outside. I couldn't find the ATV. Half the gasoline was gone, too. I walked around.
"Humph," someone said.
I checked the back of the bunker, and there I saw Lindsay with something in her hand. It was a picture... of someone…? I couldn’t tell exactly.
"Hi!" I called. She hid the picture behind her back.
She didn't know I saw it.
"H-hi," she stuttered.
"Where's Jack?"
"He left."
"What? He left?"
"Yeah. He went looking for someone."
"Who?"
"I don't know, but I thought he said he was looking for any survivors,"
I went back into the bunker. 4 months had passed since we came onto the island. I came outside to show Lindsay something before we searched for Jack. Then I told her to turn around.
"What?" She mutters.
"I have something for you."
"What is it?" She perks up.
“Turn around and I’ll show you!”
She finally turns around, and I reveal the surprise.
“Oh my gosh!” Lindsay exclaimed. I gave her a necklace that I had made from a dino tooth. She was so happy that she kissed me on the cheek! “Thank you so much!”
I felt like I had achieved a life goal.
I decided to look around the forest a bit to look for Jack.
“Jack! Jack! JACK!” I called.
Still no answer.
I got worried. Lindsay got worried too. We both thought that Jack had been attacked by the creature. A bang came from the basement.
“What could that… Jack? Are you in there? I know you're in there," I said. Then a bird head flew out of the basement.
“An Alanqa? What is this doing here?” Lindsay asked.
“I have no clue," I replied. Then, I saw a saddle on its back and thought, Jack must have tamed this before he left. After a bit of a struggle, we managed to jump on him and flew off to find Jack.
Hours passed and our worry grew stronger. All of a sudden, we see him with somebody on the back of the ATV.
“Jack! Up here!” I yelled. He must have heard us because he looked up and turned around, back to the bunker.
We got back to the bunker about an hour later, but who was on the back of the ATV? He told us that she was attacked by the creature, and saved her.
I don’t think that happened.
Her name was Anna, and she had been a good friend of Douglas before he died. Jack was concerned about the creature, though. It had attacked almost an hour ago and he was still worried about Mark.
After he got better, Mark had gone off to explore the island and had been missing for 3 months. We made a grave in case that he had really died. Odds were, he had. It was sad seeing Jack depressed like that. I felt bad for him for once.
Midnight soon came again, and the four of us celebrated having survived for exactly a year from the day the incident happened.
