We woke to the sound of the Alpha Rex roaring at six in the morning. We got up, made some breakfast, and prepared our equipment. I was on the roof, watching the Rexes get up. Lindsay came up as well.
“So. What did you want to tell me?” She asked
“Just… um… seeing how to garden was," I replied.
“Okay. Well, it’s doing pretty good. There’ll be a new batch of okra soon. Anyway, Jack’s ready to explore to see if there are any more ways to get off of the island.
“Okay. Be right down!” I called back. I looked at the sunrise and was happy with life right now. All of a sudden, a big, black helicopter flew over us.
I waved my hands while shouting “HEY!!” The helicopter turned around and started to fly towards the concealed treehouse. The only problem was, the pilot was somebody I’d wish to never see again. Reclining in the cockpit of the helicopter was Alex.
“Well, well, well," Alex mouthed. The helicopter landed next to the Alpha Tyrannoceratops, which we’d named Alpha, and he stood up. He growled at the helicopter. Then another Tyrannoceratops came out of the woods. It was the same size as Alpha, but it was blue instead of red. The two circled each other. Then Alex’s Tyrannoceratops - which I decided to call Scar because of a long scar reaching down one of its legs - charged, but Alpha was just able to dodge it. Alpha headbutted Scar’s side, his horn sinking into the soft flesh. Scar shrieked in pain, but he was able to get back on his feet, and the two locked heads, like Triceratopses. Anna was still in the treehouse when Scar slammed Alpha into the tree the treehouse was on. Jack ran inside. Anna, holding Turtle, scrambled onto a branch of the tree, followed closely by Jack.
BOOM!! The treehouse fell. It was completely demolished. Jack and Anna climbed down the tree as quickly as they could, and we ran as fast as our legs could carry us, making it to the center of Jurassic Kingdom before too long.
Even as we ducked behind a moss-covered building, I knew there was no way we could outrun Alex’s helicopter. Sure enough, Alex landed only a few yards away from us and leisurely strolled over to us.
“Jack. I’m surprised that you haven’t figured it out already," Alex said tauntingly.
“Do what now?” Jack replied, confused.
“You see, I have a daughter. I believe you know her."
“I have no idea what you are talking about."
“Anna. Why don’t you tell them?” Alex grinned and turned towards Anna, who was staring at the ground.
“Anna? What do you need to tell us?” I asked.
“I’m…,” she paused, taking a deep breath. “I’m Alex’s daughter," Anna said.
Jack, Lindsay, and I froze in shock. There was no way Anna could be Alex’s daughter, right? I mean, this guy is only what? 34?
“Yes, you are. Now come over here and help me," Alex said. What was he going to do to us? He stepped closer. To her credit, Anna stayed where she was instead of assisting her father.
“Anna, how could you not tell us?” Lindsay demanded. Jack and I turned to look at her.
When I looked at Anna, I saw that there were tears in her eyes. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean for this to happen! I didn’t want you to judge me because of-”
That was the last thing I heard before I felt a sharp pain to the back of my head. The world went dark.
I couldn’t tell how long it was before I came to. I surveyed my surroundings. I appeared to be in some sort of cell. I could see some movement on the other side of the room.
“Jack? Lindsay? Are you there?” I asked quietly. My head was pounding.
“I’m here,” Lindsay said shakily. I knew she was trying to sound confident, but I could hear the pain in her voice. Whatever Alex had hit us with was definitely meant to incapacitate us.
“Me too,” Jack muttered.
“Where are we?” I asked
“I… don’t know," Lindsay replied.
“Wait… where’s my sword?” Jack asked. I froze in terror. All of our stuff was gone. Jack’s sword, my bow, Lindsay’s bow, our arrows, everything. Alex walked into the jail - or whatever it was - and leered at us from behind steel bars.
“Well, you’re awake. Good,” Alex said.
“Why are you doing this?” Lindsay demanded.
“Why are you talking?” Alex mimicked her tone. “And why don’t you shut your mouth, young lady, and let me explain?” Lindsay snapped her mouth closed and fumed, her face red. “Thank you. Anyway, as I was going to say before I was so rudely interrupted, my plan is simple. I’m going to keep you here until you die," Alex explained, smiling maniacally. I knew he was sadistic, but really? He was going to watch us die? The man had more than a few screws loose.
We were lying on the ground a few hours later when Alex came around the corner.
“Dinner time," he said, wrenching the cell door open. He escorted us to a room with a table spanning one wall.
“Your dinner is fried chicken," Alex said as he shoved us towards the table, which held a series of metal trays with grayish chicken in them. The chicken looked like it had been burned, then smashed, then burned again.
“Who makes this stuff?” Lindsay asked, disgust coloring her tone.
“I do. So you better enjoy it," Alex responded.
We walked over to a small, circular table in the center of the room and tried to eat whatever was on our trays.
“This is absolutely disgusting," Jack gagged.
“Hey!” Alex shouted from across the room. We ducked our heads.
“This tastes like dirt eaten by Tyrannoceratops, then pooped out, then burned. Twice," Lindsay whispered.
“So true,” I agreed. We laughed softly, and none of us took another bite.
“Dinner’s over!” Alex screamed once he realized that nobody was going to eat anymore. Heck, he hadn’t even taken more than one bite.
“Okay!” We all yelled back, mirroring his tone. We walked over to the trash can and threw away our uneaten food. Once we returned to our cells, unaccompanied by prying eyes, we formulated a plan for our escape.
