We were only trapped in that prison for two days. On the first day, all we did was talk about our plan of escape. On the second day, we put the plan into action.
On the second day, we woke to what sounded like pots banging together. I still remember how loud it was - my ears were ringing. Anyway, we went to breakfast that morning pumped about our escape. Basically, we planned to distract Alex, get the Alpha Rex here, and get out. We couldn’t go into detail without knowing how things were going to pan out.
We sat down at our table and waited for breakfast to end. It was kind of weird being the only people to be in that prison.
Alex walked over to our table and said, “Well. I see that you’re not hungry."
“Nope. I’m not eating something like last night," Jack replied, grimacing.
“Well, you’ll grow accustomed to the food soon. Either that or you’ll starve to death," Alex said with a little too much enthusiasm.
“I don’t think you can keep us in here for life. I’m only fourteen. I can’t be arrested yet," Jack said.
“Yes, you can be arrested from the time you turn 10. Besides, it’s technically entrapment, not imprisonment. Now, if you’re not going to eat anything, leave. It’s morning break," Alex replied.
“Okay. We are leaving," I said.
“How do we distract Alex?” I asked my friends as soon as we were out of Alex’s hearing range.
“Maybe we could make a loud noise like something is breaking down the wall," Lindsay suggested.
“I agree with that," Jack said, so we tried to decide how we would make a noise loud enough. After a while, Lindsay looked out of a window and her eyes widened.
“Did you see that?” She whispered.
Jack and I turned and watched as two small blurs crossed through our line of sight. Then we heard a sort of howl, followed by the sound of claws scratching away at the wall right in front of us. Our curiosity held us in place as we watched the creatures break into the prison. Jack and I prepared to fight, our fists in the air. Lindsay was inching closer to the wall. She smiled as the two creatures broke through the walls that were way flimsier than we thought, and so did Jack and me. Lindsay held out her arms as Luna and Bob scrambled towards her.
I cleared my throat to tell the creatures that Jack and I were there too, but the only recognition I got was a growl from Luna.
“I knew they were too annoying to die,” Jack grumbled, earning a glare from Lindsay. If looks could kill, he’d be dead. Twice.
“We should leave before Alex comes back,” I told my friends.
They agreed, so, after Luna and Bob fought over who Lindsay would carry, we ducked through the hole that Luna and Bob had made in the wall.
“Which way do we go?” Lindsay asked as she stroked Luna’s fur. (Don’t ask me how a dog beat a dinosaur in a battle; I don’t even know.)
I looked around and realized that I had no idea where we were. I closed my eyes and spun around. When I stopped, I opened my eyes and started walking, saying, “This way."
“Following," Jack said.
“Halfway there. I think," I said.
“Ohhhhh. We’re halfway the-ere! Oh-oh,” Jack sang loudly.
I hushed him, not wanting anyone to hear us. Too late.
“Jack?” Someone asked from behind us.
“What the what!” Jack yelled, spinning around. We all turned around to see Anna.
“What do you want?” Lindsay demanded.
“Listen, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean for this to happen," she tried to explain.
“Yeah. Likely story," Lindsay replied.
“Shut up! You don’t know anything!”
“Yes, I do! Don’t you dare try to tell me what I know!”
“Ladies! Calm down!” I tried to butt in. They turned away from each other, only to glare at me.
“Kyle’s right. You need to take a chill pill," Jack said. Lindsay slapped him, furious. I would laugh, but I really can’t. He was trying to be helpful. Again, Jack to this day still isn’t good at helping. Well, he did save the world a couple of times, but it’s coming.
“Jeez! Why did you hit me!?” Jack yelled.
“Because you were being a stupid idiot!” Lindsay yelled.
“Looks to me like everyone is being an idiot," a calm voice came.
“What the heck!” Jack yelled. It was a kid, about our age. He had shaggy black hair, a black shirt, black pants, and black shoes. He looked like an FBI agent, albeit a young one.
“Sup. Name’s Thomas. Thomas Tucker," he said.
“Jack. Nice to meet you," Jack replied.
“Nice. Who are the others?” Thomas asked.
Jack pointed at me and said, “That’s Kyle." He pointed to Lindsay and Anna and said, “Lindsay is on the right and Anna is on the left."
“Cool. So, what are the animals’ names?” He asked.
“Bob is the dinosaur and Luna is the dog," Jack replied.
“Nice. Where do you guys live?” Thomas asked us.
“Not sure yet. Our bunker has been destroyed three times and our treehouse was just destroyed. So, honestly, I have no clue," Jack explained.
“You guys can live with me. I have a little place near the monorail system," he said.
“Jack. I was able to snatch your sword from my father," Anna said.
“Okay. Thanks," he replied, accepting it from her.
We followed Thomas into the system. It was pretty dark, but he had a lantern. The monorail system went underground, then back up to the surface. Then we saw light. Not the lantern, but brighter - the sun.
“We’re almost there. Just a little further," Thomas told us.
Lindsay was at the back, with Thomas in front, Jack behind him, me behind Jack, and Anna behind me. Lindsay was still frustrated that Anna turned on us, then wanted to join us again. She definitely wasn’t happy with the circumstances right now.
“Great. This is just great," I heard Thomas say.
“What?” I asked.
“The passage has been blocked off by rocks. We can’t get through now," he said.
“Jack. Use your sword to break the glass," I suggested.
“Okay. Just a heads up, it’s going to get wet," he said.
He uncapped his sword and thrust it into the glass. The glass cracked and a little bit of water filled the tunnel.
“I’m going to have to break it more," Jack said.
He thrust it through the glass again. It cracked more. Again, again, and again. The glass seemed like it would never break. Then, Jack gave it the hardest push he could, and the glass shattered immediately. Water filled the tunnel. Fast.
“Swim up!” Jack yelled.
We all went up the mini waterfall. Jack and Thomas were the last ones out. We surfaced the water and swam over to the entrance to the tunnel.
“We made it," Thomas said.
“So, where’s your home?” Jack asked.
“Up here," he replied.
We walked up the tracks up into the station. It was about five PM when we made it to the station.
“I need rest," Jack said.
“I think we all need to lay down for a bit," Thomas said.
We all agreed and went to sleep. The next day, we woke up to the Tyrannoceratops roaring. Thomas was looking out onto the ocean.
“Thomas? What are you doing?” I asked him.
“Well, I’m glad you asked," he said. His voice was different from last night - more sinister, threatening.
“Kyle!” Jack called.
“What?” I asked.
“Watch out!” Jack yelled as he pushed me out of the way of a sword that seemed to come from nowhere.
“Jack. So sorry that it had to end like this," Thomas said, stepping closer to my friend.
All of a sudden, Thomas grabbed Jack by the collar of his shirt.
“What do you want from me!?” Jack demanded.
“I want you dead," Thomas said simply.
“Why?!”
“Thomas!” Lindsay shouted.
“What do you want?” Thomas asked, exasperated.
“Just thought you might want to look behind you,” Lindsay said. Thomas turned to see Bob and Luna charging at him.
“Ugh!” He yelled as they knocked him over. Once on the ground, he grabbed Luna by the scruff of her neck and flung her to the side. He then kicked Bob to the side. I saw Lindsay’s face flush with anger. Jack interrupted as she stepped towards Thomas.
“Oh no, you didn’t just do that!” Jack yelled, charging. Thomas, now standing, had drawn his sword. He met Jack’s attack with one of his own. Thomas was pushing Jack backward onto the skinny rail. It was probably less than a foot wide.
“Come on, Jack. You will never be a hero. Everyone knows that you’re just a weak, useless burden. You have no friends, and nobody likes you," Thomas said, advancing.
“Well, looks like I haven’t been trying hard enough," Jack replied sarcastically.
Thomas pushed Jack, hard. He fell and was hanging onto the small rail.
“Jack!” Lindsay yelled. Then we heard something. A roar. One that comes from a Tyrannoceratops.
“Say hello to my little friend!” Jack said. Alpha charged out of the woods and snatched up Thomas in his mouth. I saw Lindsay close her eyes. We all flinched as we heard the crunch of bones.
“Little help here?” Jack asked, reminding us that he was still dangling precariously off the rail.
Alpha grabbed Jack and put him on the ground.
“Thanks, Alpha," Jack said. Alpha grunted.
We explored the remains of Jurassic Kingdom again since it had been a while. The place was filthy. Trees were growing inside of buildings, cages were ripped open, and the hotel was on its side. It must have recently fallen because no trees were sprouting from beneath it yet.
“Oh my gosh. This place is wrecked,” Lindsay said hopelessly.
Then we heard a roar. I recognized it immediately. Scar. He charged out from the woods, with Alex riding on his back.
“Back for more?” Jack challenged.
Instead of replying, Alex dismounted Scar and stepped back. Scar charged towards us, but Alpha, who had apparently been in the forest behind us, intercepted him.
