The Hero Starts Again (Tyura Version 1)

Ruins

Ruins

Jul 22, 2020

Tyura woke up with a gasp. He felt as though he been submerged under water and just came up for air. The first thing he did was reached out to make sure he was on solid ground. As he did, he felt something soft and prickled brush against his fingers. It was familiar, yet...

Turning his head, Tyura saw the fur of the wolf-lion still cushioning his head. Although it looked a bit worn and dull compared to its usual silver color he would recognize it anywhere.

Tyura humphed. He knew that voice was no match for him. His barriers were impenetrable.

Sitting up, Tyura surveyed the room. The lights were off but a few specks of light could be seen filtering through the roof. Which...was strange. Maybe that voice was stronger than he though.

Tyura raised his hand. "Light"

Nothing happened. "Light!" He repeated, still nothing happened. Was this some type of power suppressant?

Not thinking much of it, Tyura stood, intending to make his way to the door, only to stumble. He caught himself and felt his legs. They were quivering...and thin. Not like his usual legs. Tyura felt a prick of unease as he began feeling all over his body. He could feel every rib of his rib cage. In fact, he could feel all the bones his body without much effort. And his hair was not his usual shoulder length hair. It was short and brittle. Just moving his hand through it caused a few strands to break off.

"What-what is this?" He didn't notice it before, but even his voice was different. It was hoarse and light. His voice wasn't originally deep but the only time it sounded like this was when he was a child.

Giving up on being calm, Tyura half ran half fell to the door. On the way he heard a crunch as he stepped on something hard and pointy.

He hissed at the unfamiliar sensation, but he ignored it and grabbed the handle to door. He only gave a slight push to open it and the entire door fell off and broke into pieces. The house groaned at the loss of support.

Tyura rushed out of the open door and tuned around.

He was momentarily stunned.

His beloved house, his sanctuary. It was in ruins.

No longer was it the grand oak house from before. It was sunken in on one side and covered in cracks and splinters. It looked as if someone had picked it and dropped it a few times. It had a depressing air around it, made worse by the shadows cast by the trees that surrounded it. Trees?

Tyura looked up with wide eyes. Trees, skinny and unfamiliar surrounded him.

He shook his head. "No, no, no. What is this!?" He looked up at the sky. "I'm tired of your game! Is this some-some type of illusion!?"

However, the dull stinging pain in his foot made him doubt that theory. Still he wouldn't believe it. He couldn't fathom it!

"Do you hear me!"

Tyura stumbled back to the door way entrance and froze. With the door gone light poured into the dim house.

Tyura could see the cracked floor and mold covered walls. The dusty and broken furniture.

And the small animal bones that lay by the door. They had been crushed into pieces.

Tyura stared at those bones for what felt like and eternity. His mind ran in circles trying to grasp onto a rational thought, but he couldn't. Every half formed thought just slipped away. At last it settled on one thing.

His conversation with the Demon King.

How he had got upset over the Demon King's reaction over his snake.

For some reason it made Tyura chuckle. And then he chuckled some more. Until it was full blown laughter.

He laughed and laughed and laughed.

But then he looked down and his laughing stopped.

A small puddle of blood had formed under his right foot.

He couldn't remember the last time he had been injured. Had he ever been injured before? He had been told at an early age that a child blessed by a god could not be harmed by anything.

Especially not brittle animal bones.

Tyura swayed where he stood as the scenery spun around him. He stumbled forward and braced himself against the door frame before sliding down onto his hands and knees. His stomach heaved but nothing came out.

How could his body be injured? How could that voice have done this? Was it really that strong? Where were his powers? How could the gods allow this to happen? Wasn't he blessed? Was he abandoned? Did they abandoned him? Or was it that they didn't exist here? Wherever here was.

Tyura fell over to the side, his racing thoughts made him feel dizzy even on his hands and knees. He felt exhausted. There were too many thoughts going on in his head. Too many feelings.  These sensations were foreign to him. He felt overloaded. So when the pull of unconsciousness came over him he gratefully sank into it.
