[Noon's pov]
Thank goodness that today was a quiet day. There were only a few customers visiting the pharmacy to buy some medicines and no patients who came in the sick house today. There were times when a flock of patients and customers came in nonstop, so as the only doctor in that area, he was the busiest man during the day. On those days, he wouldn't even had the time to rest. He had two apprentices who could help him around the sick house, but their skills were not quite there yet. The other sick houses were located far away from each other in order to cover the area which had no doctors around to treat the sick.
As the most skilled doctor, he was given the responsibility to cover the most populated area, the central town. He didn't really mind it at first because he had experiences in treating a lot of patients in a race again time situations. Specifically the seismic disturbance in the Echo Island that happened four years ago. However, after four years, he remembered that the time during the disaster was a living hell for him. After all, it was a disaster which destroyed a whole large island. Almost all houses and shop buildings were turned into debris, people and corpses were stuck under the fallen buildings everywhere. They also had to dug out the corpses from under the debris by themselves and most of the corpses weren't all in good condition. Especially, when they had already died for a few days, weeks maybe.
At the end of the day, the technology in Avalleon was not as advanced as in Earth. They took more time and physical labour.
Now, even though he had less work and stress than at that time, it was still exhausting. Even for a workaholic like him.
Noon flipped his book to the next page while slowly sipping his cup of coffee. He would prefer it black, but his assistant Zac secretly put in sugar to help replenish his energy. Noon couldn't really blame the boy after he made a scene a month ago, fainting right when he was talking to the boy. He remembered clearly Zac's panic and crying face after he was awake two days later. It turned out that Noon was overworked and was lacking in energy. It's not like Noon did it on purpose. He was usually too caught up in his works that he lost track of time.
He finished the book he was reading and took another book which was even thicker than the book before. The book contained a compilations of researches that had done from the past about Jiwa. He skimmed through the book ー which he actually had read many times in the past ー just to make sure he wasn't forgetting any information about Jiwa.
"When an Uruz was attracted to a Fehu's scent, his body will recognise the Fehu as his Jiwa and the Uruz will feel a sense of over protectiveness towards his Jiwa."
That was what the public knew about the relationships between Jiwas. However, the signs were too vague for most people, unless they met a Fehu who was ovulating. During that time, the Fehu will be emitting the stronger scent in order to attract his Uruz. If Noon were to describe this in animal terms, it's the same as having a mating season. Noon was never a fan of this soulmate concept. He felt like the universe was playing cupid on them by taking the human's right to freely love without the interference of a certain forced interaction between two intoxicated chosen-by-fate individuals.
For Uruz, their sense of possession towards the Fehu was like stroking their pride as the stronger gender. While for Fehu the security and safety that they felt when they were with the chosen Uruzes was like discreetly saying that they were a weaker individuals that was meant to be under an Uruz just to feel safe.
Of course these were only Noon's opinions on this topic. Most people didn't think that way. Like they said, there were multiple perspectives on everything.
Most people think that it was for the best that the Uruz could protect their Fehu; and for the Fehu to feel safe and calm while being in their Uruz's embrace was sweet and romantic.
Noon scoffed.
For most people, meeting their Jiwa was thanks to destiny. For Noon, it was pure hormones. Maybe mixed with the compatibility of their mana. The scent from a specific individuals which were their soulmates would trigger the hormone that made them calm. There were also theories that relating the psychological aspects on how it effects a pair or groups of Jiwa.
In the end, “destiny” wasn't the only explanation about Jiwa.
Although if he were to meet his own Jiwa, Noon wanted to love him sincerely because of who he is. Not because of stupid attractions caused by hormones.
There were the case when a pair of Uruz and Fehu that were not Jiwas, but they were attracted to each other and fell in love. It was not common, but it happened. Their mana weren't compatible, so they couldn't have a child from their non Jiwa partners. The marriage between non Jiwa partners were allowed in some countries, but because of the issue that they couldn't produce offspring, society still considered that as unacceptable. No wonder. The decreasing populations was already a global problem since a century ago. People kept on dying, but there were not much Fehu was born to give birth to future Fehu.
The wars that happened in this crucial time obviously weren't helping.
The researchers were frantically trying to find solutions. But no matter what they did, it was the rule of the universe that a seed and an egg that came from two individuals who had incompatible mana couldn't be fertilized.
He met a few couples who were fighting their destiny. Married even if they were not destined to be together. Even if they were healthy enough and capable of giving birth to their own children, but unless they were soulmates, they could have a children of their own.
Don't let him start talking about rejections.
Some people were strange enough to reject their destined mate or mates. Sure, they have their own reasons, although some of them not. Nonetheless, the effects of rejection is usually fatal. If not immediately, it could be happening slowly but surely. Most of the rejected Jiwa would have symptoms of mental illness such as depression and grief. Some of them had physical symptoms that would weaken their body slowly.
Noon remembered Hikaru's face. He wouldn't want something like that to happen to the sweet boy. Even if he loathed the idea of having a destined partner, he couldn't hate his Jiwa. When he met Hikaru, he admitted that he was attracted to the frail looking boy. I mean, who wouldn't?
Hikaru's rare shiny black hair that looked like the mysterious night sky... His sparling obsidian eyes which looked like the galaxy... Even the pale skin of his could turned out to be beautiful on him. Most importantly, his soft voice and the adorable way he talks and acts ー those characteristics always reminded him of a small animal! Hikaru's cuteness was the one that had been shooting arrows to his heart ever since he first met the lovable boy!
Sometimes, Noon's usual straight and strict face would became loose every time he saw Hikaru. When Hikaru acted flustered, he had the dangerous urge to squeeze that round cheeks hard. His body was so thin, but how can his cheeks were so chubby?!
Noon gritted his teeth. Hikaru was dangerous. No! It'll be dangerous for Hikaru to be near him! He must protect that adorable baby at all cost!
To think that the adorable Hikaru was his Jiwa... Just how blessed he was?! He must've done a lot of good deeds to be able to have Hikaru to be his Jiwa. Although it's okay if Hikaru decided not to marry him. He understood. He would be fine to just stayed by Hikaru's side. Although it's a shame if he couldn't hug or kiss or squeeze or bite Hikaru. He's a tee~nsy bit sad... but, he got that.
Still, Noon needed an outlet to help him quenched his thirst for cute stuffs.
If only his younger siblings were a little more obedient. He missed the days when they let him doted on them. Lately, the kids started to be in their rebellious state. There was no helping it. Teens... Noon sighed.
Even that Reese! Reese was cute and spoiled little brat, but he was too spoiled! He wanted to spoil Reese like Hyde too, but that kid would always flipped his nerves. Besides, it was no good to spoil the kid too much. So, Noon would always holding himself back while staring at Hyde giving his love and attention to Reese.
Although he wanted to do that too.
Talking about those two, Noon was a little bit surprised when he realized that the two of them, along with him, was Hikaru's Jiwa. That explains why he couldn't leave Reese and Hyde alone. Of course a Fehu and an Uruz that were mates had a special relationship, but the relationship between the Uruzes that have the same Jiwa was special too. There would be no jealousy among the Uruzes whenever any Uruz that tied to their soulmate got close to their Jiwa.
Wait. Let's rephrase that.
There would be no possessiveness among the Uruzes, which we call Partners. They were willing to share their Fehu with their Partners. That was how special their Partners were. After they became families, the Partners bond would become more stronger than before.
If other Uruz that weren't the soulmate of their Jiwa showed some interest to their Jiwa, they would be swallowed with a huge amount of jealousy and possessiveness. They would even work together to drove away the other Uruz.
Just like him, he was okay if Hyde or Reese touched or be near Hikaru (although he sometimes envy them), but if there were any other Uruz came close to Hikaru...
Only the thought of it drove him crazy with anger and jealousy!
Come to think of it, there were supposed to be four Jiwa destined for Hikaru. He wondered if they would be the fourth one. The Jiwa will unconsciously attracted towards each other, so they were easy to cross path with each other. But, there were some cases that they died before they met the rest of their Jiwa, like Reese's parents.
Noon was hoping that the fourth person would be a good person that they all can trust their lives to.
