Kai let out a sigh as he stretched. He bent down and reached underneath his bed and pulled out a very old, black, wooden trunk with golden latches. "Aperto", the trunk unlatched itself and Kai pulled out the black hooded robe and barn owl mask that was hidden away inside.
"I don't see why you insist on wearing that ridiculous mask whenever you go out on your wild endeavors," Cora said in mock anger.
Kai laughed. They have the same conversation every time she saw the mask. He had bought it about twenty or so thousand years ago while passing through a small village and thought it to be quite the hilarious purchase. His familiar did not share his humor.
"I wear it because it is safer that way and I love the mask. Don't you also think that the likeliness is quite uncanny?" The comment made Cora's feathers bristle and she turned her head to glare at Kai then at the mask, "No, I do not."
"Oh come on, I know you like the mask," he said with a teasing smile, "and besides I was joking; you and I both know that the mask can never compare to your unnatural beauty and charm." He tried to give her his best innocent eyes, but she just huffed and turned away from him, "Your flattery will not save you from my wrath, Kai. Not this time."
Kai laughed and shook his head. She will forgive him. He knew that she liked the mask, if not more than Kai did, but to be safe he would be making her favorite tonight.
Kai had gotten word that a clan of vampires and a pack of werewolves had declared war against each other. It was going to be a blood bath and Kai was not going to stand idly by and watch as innocent lives would be taken especially for such a ridiculous cause.
From what he and Cora had heard, it was all just one big misunderstanding and speculation. The wolves believed that the vampires were trespassing into their territory and draining the animals and attacking their children. The vampires then blamed the werewolves of destroying their property.
Both sides were outraged to be accused of actions they did not commit, which started an all-out war between the two. It didn't help that the supernaturals were never on good terms to begin with.
Kai shifted into his wolf form and ran to the large area where the fight would occur. His wolf form was very large, much larger than the average wolf or werewolf. He was pure white with golden tribal markings across his body, but they were hidden underneath the black robe and mask that he inchanted to change with him to fit his wolf form.
Kai got to the battlegrounds just as the two groups of supernaturals did. They were both staring each other down with a look of determination in their eyes. It was clear neither of them was going to back down. The werewolf Alpha had a look of disgust and hatred burning within his scornful scowl, whereas the leader of the vampire clan just looked angry. Kai shifted back into his human form and was about to run in between the two groups but someone had beaten him to it.
"Stop!"
"Benjamin! Get back here right now!" The Alpha yelled at the young werewolf in a strong dominant tone. Benjamin wavered just a bit but was able to stand his ground and ignore his Alphas demand, "No, this has to stop! We don't need to fight each other."
The Alpha looked as if he were going to burst a vein as he glared Benjamin down. He was about to start marching towards him when suddenly a young vampire girl ran at inhuman speed and took a protective stance right in front of Benjamin, "He's right! There's no need for this!"
"Vanessa!? What the hell do you think you're doing!?" Her father yelled out. After that, all hell broke loose. All of the older supernaturals started to yell out in outrage and confusion as the teens and young adults tried desperately to be heard, begging for them to listen.
"Will everyone just shut up and listen!" Benjamin yelled in a strong authoritative voice. The field drew quiet. "The boy definitely has Alpha blood," Kai thought.
"How dare you speak to me like that boy! I am your Alpha and you will know your place!" The Alpha stomped towards his son, the hostility in his father's eyes was clear as day. Benjamin pulled Vanessa behind him and stood in a defensive position, ready for a fight.
Kai had seen enough.
Out of nowhere, a robed figure appeared and stood in front of Benjamin and Vanessa, facing the Alpha who was now in a kneeling position with his nose pushed into the dirt. Everyone went stiff, the power radiating off of the robed figure was so suffocating they didn't dare to breathe.
The Alpha tried to stand but it was as if gravity had gotten ten times stronger and kept him to the ground.
"You are all being quite rude. I believe Benjamin has something very important he would like to discuss with all of you, and it would be in your best interest if you heard what he had to say." He said aloud for everyone to hear. While he spoke, Cora had landed on his shoulder and narrowed her eyes at the kneeling figure of the Alpha.
Everyone stared in shock and with their mouth agape. They had all heard stories of a powerful being who wore black robes and had the face of an owl. No one knew what the being was, all the stories were different and no one knew if the being was male, female, vampire, witch, werewolf, spirit, or god/goddess. The stories were passed down from generation to generation as bedtime stories. Some didn't even believe that such a being even existed, but here they were, the great being stood amongst them, emitting an aura they had never felt before.
Benjamin couldn't believe his eyes. His great grandfather used to tell him stories as a child about the great being who had saved his mate from a hoard of goblins and stopped countless wars without even lifting a finger. The way he spoke about him made him out to be like some kind of superhero that Ben had dreamed of becoming, As the years went by, he chalked up the stories as fictional bedtime stories from an old senile man. Now that the being was in front of him he didn't know what he should do, "Should I bow?" he thought.
The being turned to him. Even though their face was covered, Benjamin somehow knew that they were smiling up at him. "They're a lot shorter than I would have imagined," Ben thought humorlessly. "Go ahead, Benjamin" The voice that he heard was so warm, and soft, but pure and strong all at the same time, he had never heard anything like it before.
He could see nothing but the mask staring up at him and he could do nothing but stare back. Vanessa nudged his side, making him realize that he had been staring for far too long. He swiftly turned his head away, hiding his blush, "r-right" he stuttered, which made his blush darken. He cleared his throat and turned to the large crowd surrounding them,
"My name is Benjamin Martinez, son of Alpha Kenzo Martinez of the Northern Paw Pack." He made sure his voice was loud and clear, "All my life I was taught the vampires were disgusting, blood crazy creatures that were never to be trusted, and I am ashamed to say that until recently, I believed it.
On my eighteenth birthday, I was so excited to finally meet my mate, just like every werewolf I had been looking forward to that day since I had learned what a mate was. Imagine my surprise when I walked into school that day, only to find out that the most amazing smell I have ever come across was coming from, a vampire." Gasps were heard from all around but Benjamin continued,
"I am the future Alpha of my pack, and to find out that my destined was a vampire scared me. Apart of me wanted to march right up to her and reject her, but no matter what I just couldn't bring myself to go through with it. I prayed and prayed, hoping that the Moon Goddess had made a mistake and that my feelings for the vampire would disappear, but as the days passed they only became stronger.
I hid it from everyone, denying the fact that I had found my mate. One day I had had enough and walked right up to her, ready to reject her, but before I could open my mouth she was sassing me, making rude comments, and on her face was the most adorable angry face I had ever seen." Vanessa elbowed him hard in the gut; the blush on her face was very prominent, but she tried to hide it behind a glare.
Ben laughed and rubbed his side, "It was hard at first since she was taught to hate werewolves just as much as I was to vampires, but as time passed we became friends, and not long after, I couldn't stop myself from falling head over heels for her."
He turned to Vanessa and held both her hands in his, "I love your fiery spirit and how you refuse to be looked down on. I love the way to take what you want and leave no prisoners. I love how you will fight to the death to protect the ones you care for but yet still get embarrassed over the silliest of things. There was no way that I could not fall so hard for you.
I love you and I want everyone to know. To hell with my father! I don't want to hide my love for you anymore. I want the world to know that I solely belong to you and you to me." By the end of his speech, Vanessa was beet red and hid her face and tears in his chest, whispering to him "Goddess I swear you do this on purpose Lobo," He wrapped his arms around his shy mate and kissed her forehead. She wrapped her arms around his waist, "I love you too Ben."
"We shouldn't have hidden our relationship for as long as we did, but we were afraid none of you would accept our mating." He turned to look to the eldest vampire, "We didn't mean to damage the property on your territory. Our friends had surprised us with a mating/wedding ceremony when Vanessa had finally accepted me as her mate."
He turned to the werewolves, "And the dead deer the border patrol found was also us. From our first hunt as a mated couple. I was going to come clean at the pack meeting I had called but then, things just got out of control." He said as he gestured all around him with an accusing look on his face.
"I am sorry for all the trouble our secret has put you all through, I never wanted it to escalate to war and for that, I cannot apologize for enough. But I hope that from this day forward we can put our differences aside and can bring peace betwee-"
"Are you fucking serious! You're mated to a filthy vampire?!" Alpha Kenzo yelled, having heard enough. He glared at his son and his mate with disgust. He was about to continue but was cut off by a loud screech. He instantly shut his mouth as he remembered that the great being was still there and staring down at him. The owl on his shoulder was glaring at him, radiating anger.
"I am dead serious. I love Vanessa and I am not or will ever be ashamed to say so. Since I now have a mate, you will pass down the Alpha title to me. You rule by fear and deception and I cannot let it continue."
"And If I refuse?" Alpha Kenzo asked raising his brow at his son, wondering where all his confidence and nerve has come from.
"If you refuse then I will have no other choice but to challenge you for the title of Alpha. And when I win, Vanessa will stand by my side as Luna."
Alpha Kenzo curled his lips into a cruel smile, "I'd like to see you try, Pup"
