It was dark. David was slow to process that he was now in his room on his own bed. Stars were shining brightly in the sky through his bedroom window. He didn't know how long he had slept for but everything was quiet. He tried to lift his hand up to rub his eyes but it was then that he felt someone else holding it. There sleeping on his bedside, holding his right hand, was Patrick Holwell. Davids's heartbeat began to increase as he watched the sleeping boy.
Thee Patrick Holwell was in his room, holding his hand, and in his bed; well more or less, his head was on the bed at least. David stared at Patrick's sleeping figure, his wild blond curls were sprawled along his bed. David wanted to run his hands through the curls and see if they were as soft as they looked.
"-vid."
"David."
"Y-yes?" David's cheeks turned rosy when he saw that Patrick's eyes were now wide open and staring right back at him. Patrick turned away for a moment and brought a glass of water to his lips. "I also have some pain killers here if you need them?"
Surprisingly enough, David wasn't in any pain. He shook his head and gave a quiet thanks as he sat up and took the glass and drank all the water. After handing the ety glass back to Patrick they sat there in awkward silence.
"I'm sorry."
David's eyes scanned over Patrick for a moment and waited for the older boy to continue.
"I'm sorry for everything. For the woods incident, for picking on you, hurting you, and especially for me just being a major ass." He sighed, "I don't have an excuse and I can understand it if you can't forgive me, I really don't deserve it after all the shit I put you through throughout the years.
I.. I'll go if you want me to, I just wanted to let you know that I'm really sorry and you won't have to worry about it anymore, I won't bother you ever again." Patrick turned to leave the room. He got to the door but before he could grab onto the handle, David yelled out after him.
"Wait!"
David was confused as to why he had stopped his biggest bully form leaving but something about how sad Patrick looked didn't sit well with him. His handsome face shouldn't do that. "Thank you, for the apology. I mean sure you have been a bit of an ass, but I mean I get why you did it, I am pretty pitiful. But I do really appreciate the apology and I don't know, we can maybe be, friends?"
David wanted to curse himself a dumbass "friends?" what the hell was he saying?! Why would someone as popular as Patrick Holwell wat to be friends with him? When Patrick continued to stand there that stupid cute face of his, staring at him as if he had told him that he could shit rainbows, he just wanted to dig himself a hole and die. He quickly started to backtrack.
"I- I mean um, you d.. don't have to. Sorry that was stupid. Thanks for the apology! But um you can forget I ever said anything."
Patrick was quick to his side, holding his hand again, "You are not pitiful. If anyone deserves to be called names it's me. You're smart, funny brave, and so fucking strong! I am so sorry for how I've treated you, but you have to know that I was wrong and you are anything but pitiful! And would be so damn lucky to be able to call you a friend.
Patrick was now breathing hard and David's face was on fire. Their faces were inches apart and David nervously licked his lips. Patrick caught the movement and his eyes lingered on David's lips for longer than intended to.
Finally, Patrick pulled away and sat back down on the chair he had fallen asleep on. David turned away and brought his left arm to cover his face, willing his furious blush to go away, but when he realized that Patrick was still holding his right, it went right back to the crimson red it was before.
"Do you remember what happened?" It took a moment for David to catch on to what Partick was referring to but when he did he just nodded his head.
"Did I... Was anyone hurt?"
"No, you managed to call the flames back before anyone was hurt." David nodded his head but he was surprised. How he had managed to take control over the flames through the immense pain he was in was beyond him. He tried to remember how he had done it but all he could remember was that god awful pain, except, "Cold hands."
"What?"
David turned his wide eyes to Patrick, "There was someone there who had cold hands. My head felt like it was going to split in two and I felt like I was on fire, but when they put their hands on my back, it was like I could breathe again. All the pain I was in just, disappeared. They also had a sweet voice. I can't really remember what they were telling me, but just hearing it, I... They helped me.
"Oh! That was-"
The door opened and in walked both of David's parents, as well as a man he had never seen before. They were short, probably even shorter than he was and they had the most mesmerizing green eyes he had ever seen.
Theresa quickly walked to her son's side and put her hands on his forehead. "How are you feeling? Any pain or discomfort?"
He shook his head, "I'm fine." He didn't even look at his parents as they fussed over him, all he could do was stare into the eyes of the mystery man in his room. When the man smiled at him his breathing hitched and it clicked.
"Hello, David. I am so glad to see that you are ok. My name is Kai."
"I- It's you."
They all look from David to Kai and Theresa narrowed her eyes at Kai. "You're the one with cold hands! You helped me."
Kai's laughter filled the room and they all felt warmth flood their bodies as they heard the light and almost enchanting sound, even Theresa couldn't keep a smile from forming on her lips. when his laughter died a bit he said with a bright smile, "In all my years! I don't think anyone had ever addressed me as such! That is a first my boy." Kai let out a few small chuckles, "I do suppose my hands can be a bit cold, can't they."
David blushed finding it oddly amusing that his comment had made the small man burst into a laughing fit. Without meaning to he asked the question that now everyone was thinking, "How old are you?"
Kai was still laughing a bit as he shook his head, "I am much older than I look. I have been told that I have what is called a babyface." Kai could see that David wanted an exact number and was ready to ask but they weren't there for that. "Let us not get distracted now, David, maybe later we can learn more of each other but for right now we have more urgent matters to discuss."
Everyone got situated in the room. Patrick stayed on David's right and his parents on his left. Kai took a seat on the desk chair that he had turned around to face everyone else in the room.
"David, in the field, you exhibited quite the display of power. Power that is far greater than those your age would normally have, but, you don't have any control over it, which is very dangerous." Kai said with a sad frown.
"I practice every day! b..but I do still have some trouble and can't do it for too long, especially if I don't have help from another witch."
"Now it's my understanding that you are indeed a hybrid, is that correct?" Everyone in the room nodded. Kai looked at David's father, "May I ask, what is your rank, Mr. Guerra?"
"I am an Alpha but a warrior in this pack."
Kai nodded and turned back to David, "David, you are a very powerful witch. Your power level is correspondent with you being a hybrid. Tell me, when is your eighteenth birthday?"
"It's in two weeks."
"Hm, then we don't have much time."
"Much time for what?" This time it was Theresa who asked.
"As your eighteenth birthday approaches, David, the dormant wolf genes are awakening. Just like all of the other werewolf hybrids who's wolf genes come second, on your eighteenth birthday, you will get all the other benefits of those of a werewolf. Your senses will be heightened, you will grow faster, stronger, and on your eighteenth birthday, you will have the ability to identify your mate." Everyone in the room was shocked and happy with the news. Mr. Guerra pat his son's shoulder in congratulations. "But, due to the fact that you have more werewolf in your DNA than what would be considered a normal amount, you will become... stronger."
"Isn't that good?" Mr. Guerra asked, "I don't see how being stronger would be a bad thing." Mr. Guerra had a frown on his face and began mumbling about how being more werewolf shouldn't be considered a bad thing. David ignored his dad, "What does it mean that I have more werewolf in me than most, will I be able to shift?"
"No my child, you will still be considered a witch. You won't be able to shift nor will you get a wolf counterpart. As you know, when a hybrid is born, the genes of the species will fight until one gene becomes dominant. This is usually settled in the womb. However, in rare circumstances, where both genes are very strong, powers and abilities will become more than what they should be. A lot of the most powerful supernaturals out there are found to usually be hybrids.
But, there is a very rare, one out of eight billion chance, of a more dangerous occurrence. Where both genes will continuously fight for dominance, even after birth. It creates such an excessive amount of power that will inevitably become too much for the host."
Kai could see how every one of them, besides Mrs. Guerra, was trying to make sense of his words, "My intention is not to frighten all of you and I do have a solution. I just need for all of you to understand how serious this is so that when I explain what needs to be done, there will be no arguments. Keep that in mind." Kai looked to David's parents as he said this.
"David, you are that one in eight billion. That feeling you had in the forest on your way home? That was just the beginning of it, and on your eighteenth birthday, when your werewolf DNA has come to its peak... it will kill you."
