He basically ran through the path to Kai's home that he was now familiar with. He needed to see him, hear him. He needed to talk to him because he had so man fucking questions that needed answering, and the only person who could, was Kai himself.
As he got closer he began to slow his pace. As he walked he wondered what he would say first, what he would ask. Would he bring up the fact that they were mates? Did Kai know? He knew about werewolves, about packs, about rouges, did he know about him, the infamous Sebastian King? The thought of Kai fearing him like everyone else didn't sit well with him.
"But he wasn't afraid of me when last time. He had reprimanded me and wasn't afraid to stare me down. And when he had first stepped out of his house he was smiling, held eye contact. The way he was looking at me was the same way I was looking at him, it was almost as if he knew-"
"WATCH OUT!!!!"
The scream of warning was too late. Just as he stepped out into the open, a huge ball of fire was the only thing he could see. It was too close to dodge and he could already feel the heat of the fire warming his skin. The only thing he could do was brace for impact.
His hands hadn't even reached above his chest when the fire disappeared. The breeze that cooled his warmed skin was the only thing that he could feel. When he opened his eyes he saw a young boy staring wide-eyed and opened mouth at.. Kai? "Why is he staring at him like that?"
Kai had jumped up the moment he heard the yell. He saw the ball of fire heading straight towards Sebastian and without a second thought, he used his own magic to override David's and dissipated the ball of fire mere inches away from Sebastian's face.
He quickly rushed to Sebastian, "Sebastian are you alright?!" He held Sebastian's cheek softly as he checked over him for any injuries. His cheeks were warm and a bit red. Kai worried that the fire had gotten too close for comfort. "Did the flames touch you? I have some burn ointment in my home. I can-"
Sebastian leaned into Kai's touch and placed his hand on top of Kai's stopping him from his stammering., "I'm ok." The previous anger, confusion, and worry that plagued his mind were long gone as he stared into Kai's large green eyes that were filled with worry. They were so close.
Kai let out a breath of relief before reluctantly pulling his hand away, "Are you sure you're ok?"
Sebastian nodded, not giving a verbal answer because he was sure that his voice would give away just how sad he was watching as Kai took fleeting steps away from him.
"Wha-h-how? You can.... b -but I thought..."
"David we will talk about that later. But at the moment, I believe you owe someone an apology."
David's eyes widened in realization as he remembered he could have fried someone if Kai had not stepped in. "Oh my god! I am so sorry Mr! I really didn't mean to!"
"It's alright. It was a close one, but you managed to stop it before it burned me." David's eyes quickly shifted to Kai before settling back onto him, "Um, y-yeah."
Sebastian raised an eyebrow at the boy. He could clearly hear how his heartbeat had faltered and sped up. "He lied," Sebastian thought, "but about what? It was a simple statement."
"David go inside and take a break. We will continue with your lessons in a moment."
"But-"
"Now. please." David flinched at the harsher tone that Kai had used. In all his time with him, he had never even slightly raised his voice at him.
Kai saw the flinch and immediately regretted speaking to him like that. He turned to face David and rested his hand on his shoulder, "I am sorry David, I didn't mean to raise my voice." He sighed, "You did very well today and we will continue later, but for now, I need for you to go inside and take a break. Take Gin in with you and have an early lunch. After you've eaten you can do whatever it is that you want, call your family, friends, let them know that you're all right. But do not hesitate to come to me if you begin to feel any discomfort ok? The second you feel even the slightest pinch of pain, come find me. I don't want my home to go up in flames."
David rolled his eyes and smiled, "Again, Kai, we've been over this once already, your house is fireproof, remember?" kai chuckled, "Yes, I remember. My home may be fireproof but Cora is not. Promise me?"
David nodded, "I promise. But only if you promise that we will talk later."
This time it was Kai that rolled his eyes. "This is not up for debate, but if you insist then yes, I promise you that we will talk. Now go."
"Alright, come on Gin!" A raven flew down and landed on the young witch's shoulder. He watched as David went inside and waited till the door closed before turning back to his unannounced guest. "I really am so sorry about that whole ordeal. I should have been paying more attention."
Sebastian shook his head dismissing Kai's apology. "There's nothing to apologize for. You couldn't have known and I'm not hurt. Who was that by the way?"
"Oh, I apologize for not properly introducing the two of you. His name is David. He is a guest of mine."
"A witch?"
"Mhm. What are you doing here? Is there something I can help you with Alpha?" Kai said as he went to go pick up the chair and teacup off the floor that he had knocked over in his haste to protect Sebastian.
Sebastian followed. "I came to see you. I've been needing to speak to you and have been coming by almost every day but I always seem to miss you."
Kai ket his focus on dusting off his now chipped and dirty mug, "I am sorry for my absence, but my work tends to keep me busy. I go when I am needed and am never sure when I will be back.
Now, if you please excuse me Alpha, I must get back to my guest. It has been a pleasure." Kai finally turned to give him a quick nod of the head in goodbye and just as fast turned to leave.
Seeing his mate run, trying to get away from him as fast as he possibly could, made him feel like his heart was being torn in two. Just a moment ago Kai was looking him over with care and concern, making sure that he wasn't hurt, but again was running the first chance that he was given. "Have I done something that's offended you in some way?"
He hadn't meant for his question to come out but he wasn't going to take it back. He couldn't leave again with unanswered questions. He wouldn't be able to stand not knowing when he would be able to see his beautiful Luna again. He wanted to get to know him but how would he if Kai refused to speak to him for more than a few minutes?
Kai froze. He chanced to look at Sebastian and his heart squeezed with guilt as the hurt and desperation was evident on Sebastian's face.
He felt like a hypocrite. How many rejected and unwanted mates and lovers had he comforted throughout the years? How many had he helped, protected, and healed? Told that what their mates had done was cruel?
Now here he was, pushing his mate away, not even giving him a chance, seemingly rejecting him over his own fears and insecurities.
"No, I'm sorry. I didn't mean... I-it's not you, I just..." he sighed. He was pathetic, "I have been unnecessarily rude to you and I am sorry. I hope you can forgive me?"
Sebastian closed the distance between the two of them. He needed to be near his distressed mate. His instincts were telling him to comfort him any way that he possibly could. He wanted to reach out and pull him into an embrace but if Kai didn't feel the mate pull them it would probably only scare and confuse him. "It's ok, but is everything ok?"
Kai was going to say that everything was all right but it seemed that his mouth just had a mind of its own and decided to become as truthful as possible. "It's actually been a pretty stressful week and it seems that things just keep being piled on." He rubbed his forehead then pinched the bridge of his nose, "So much had happened all at once, with David, the coven, and my own personal problems. All of which simultaneously demanding all fo my attention. It's just been a bit overwhelming is all."
Sebastian caught on to the part about the coven. He wondered if there was there a group of witches that were giving Kai a hard time. He pondered for a moment what type of problem he would have with a coven for him to be giving a witch magic lessons, but Kai made it sound like they were two separate problems. He wanted to ask more questions, to know which coven he needed to bring to its knees for his mate, but seeing as they were still strangers and Kai seemed to pull away whenever he was questioned he decided against it. He didn't want kai distancing himself, "Is there something I can do to help?"
Kai chuckled, "No, it's alright. It's nothing I can't handle on my own, but thank you. I really appreciate your offer." Kai couldn't help but stare into the blue eyes of his mate. They really did take his breath away. The longing in his mate's eyes made him weak to the knees. He turned away once he realized that he had been staring for too long.
"Um..." Sebastian rubbed the back of his neck, "If- if you aren't doing anything later or whenever you're free, you're welcome to come over - or I mean um.." Sebastian was thoroughly embarrassed. He was acting like a schoolboy with a crush! A small tinge of red spread across his cheeks when he saw how Kai was trying very hard to keep from showing his amusement to his awkwardness. He coughed and tried again, this time with composure and confidence, "I would like to invite you and David to the Shadow Pack for dinner tomorrow evening."
Kai thought it was cute seeing the big bad alpha stutter and trip over his words just trying to invite him to dinner and when his cheeks turned rosy he nearly cooed aloud. He really would love to go and spend some time with his mate but he had things he needed to do.
"I'm sorry-"
"We would love to!"
They turned to see David making his way over to them. Kai sent the boy a subtle glare. "Actually I-"
"Great!" Sebastian yelled, cutting Kai off. He would have to thank David later on if he actually managed to get Kai to come to dinner. "I'll see you tow tomorrow then!" Sebastian couldn't stop smiling as he walked back home. He wanted to howl in glee. He needed to wow his mate and hopefully, during dinner, he would get to know more about Kai and be all that closer to claiming him.
Kai waited till Sebastian was out of earshot before he turned towards his prodige, "How long were you listening in on our conversation?"
David had thought that accepting in Kai's place was a good idea, but now seeing the man who had only ever smiled and spoke softly and with warmth in his voice towards him stare at him with a face of indifference was making him quickly rethink his decision.
"I didn't hear anything that you two were talking about. I only heard when he was inviting you over for dinner. Were you going to tell him no?"
Kai sighed, "Yes, I was going to decline his offer."
"But why? Don't you like him?" Kai shook his head and began walking back towards the house, "Come, you still have more training to do. You have been doing well, but you still have a ways to go before your birthday."
He wanted to ask more questions but he knew the change in topics was Kai's way of telling him to drop it. He kinda felt bad for that dude. Sebastian, Kai had called him. If he was a werewolf, like he suspected, then it was pretty obvious that Kai was his mate by the way that he was looking at him. Kai was no better with his obvious stares.
Maybe it wasn't his place to get involved, but if they were mates then that meant that they would only find happiness in each other. Kai deserved happiness. He hadn't known him for very long, but he felt that if anyone deserved a happily ever after, it was Kai.
A smile spread across his face as he followed behind Kai while a plan formed in his head.
Kai was doing so much for him already and he only thought it best to repay his kindness by helping kai get his man. It's just a bit of matchmaking. After all, what's the worst that could happen?
