The Story of Humanly Monsters, or Monsterly Humans?

Her Mission

Her Mission

Jul 29, 2020

"Lydia. I want you to keep an eye on this new boy at your school." Those words are haunting me because I still haven't told father the story about what happened with Kip and Ren last weekend good thing he's away on another task." Danny said trying to keep up her mask.

As Danny walked down the hallway, she noticed that Kip and Ren were standing near her locker, both trying to speak at the same time. They notice her.

 "Hey Danny!" Kip said waving.

"Good morning, Danny." Ren said.

Making a mental note for later that they have grown closer over the weekend, she replies "Morning you two."

Danny opens her locker, taking out her books for the first three periods.

"Please tell you did your math homework!'" Kip asks.

"You’re kidding me, right?"  She replies, trying not to slip up.

"No, I completely forgot." She replies with puppy dog eyes.

"Fine just give it back before fourth period." Danny demands Kippy to hand her books.

"Thanks, Danny! Kippy hugs her before running off to homeroom leaving her alone with Ren.

"That was awkward, she was not usually a hugging person." Danny thought.

Danny decided to break the tension between them by trying to bait Ren into talking about the past weekend.

"Thank you for taking care of Kip when I wasn't there." She says she tries to read his body language through her deep brown almost black eyes.

"You're welcome. It was no problem" Ren says smiling and blushing.

The bell rings for homeroom.

"See you later." Danny says, keeping an eye on Ren.

"Later." he replied walking in the other direction.

"Something definitely happened." Danny thought about making a note of how Ren acted on the phone.

The classes went on as usual, boring, and dull. She was looking forward to lunch when Danny could try to get Kip to talk, which was much easier than Ren.

She goes out the door, but she runs into none other Ren, "Hey Danny did you happen to see a grey notebook in here?" He asks Danny to notice some panic in his voice.

"No, I didn't." "Check the lost and found at the front desk." She replies coldly.

As she walks passed him, she looks him straight into his brownish red eyes.

Danny grabs her books for her last three classes and makes her way to the cafeteria. She spots Kip among the crowd, waving her down. She saves the spot until Danny gets lunch from the lunch ladies. Out of line with food in hand she makes her way to where Kip is when she spots Ren next to her.

"Damn."  Danny thought trying to keep a straight face through her anger.

She sat down between them, both went silent. Danny had to break the silence again.

"Kip, do you feel better after the weekend?" Danny replies trying to low key glare at Ren.

She took a second to answer, fidgeting a bit.

“If I had to take a guess it was because of staying at Ren's house.” Danny thought as she starts to eat and sees that Ren also looks uncomfortable but sucks at hiding it as much as Kippy does.

"I'm fine. Thanks for asking." Kippy says as if in between biting her sandwich clearly trying not to look at Ren.

"How was Ren's house? Spill it." Danny asks to lean close to her.

Kip almost drops her food on the floor. She blushes. Danny notices her face also shows pity. Maybe.

Ren looks over concerned.

"Is everything okay?" He asks.

"Just girl talk." Danny replies shooting him a don’t interfere look.

He nods his head and gets up to get food.

"It was just normal, I swear." Kip pleads.

"Are you sure that blush doesn't say normal." Danny shot back, obviously teasing her.

"He just walked me home, because it was too awkward staying at a boy's house." She replies rubbing her hand.

"She's lying." Danny thought and tried to steer Kippy into spilling what happened at Ren’s house.

Trying not to give herself away she replies "How like you girl. You need to get some confidence."

"What do you mean?" she asked looking confused.

“This is going nowhere fast.” Danny thought.

Trying to change the subject Danny asks, "It’s nothing just teasing you." "Do you have my math notebook by any chance?"

"Yeah, here you go." Kippy gives back Danny’s notebook.

Ren comes back and the silence continues with them eating, the bell rings.

The last classes drag; Danny loathes them especially when they drag.

“But I rather be here then giving my father my report from last weekend.” Danny thought as she closed her books as she started to change classrooms for her last class.

After the last class is over her phone ring goes off, opening her phone. It is her father, picking it up as she gets her books for homework.

"Hello Lydia, I hope everything has gone well." Danny’s father’s voice said with a stern tone.

"It has father." Danny replies, feeling as if everything slowed down around her.

"Good. I am looking forward to your report when you get home." He kept his voice stern.

"Yes father." Danny replies to her voice trembling.

He hung up, leaving the phone on disconnect, Danny sighs.

She closes her phone, grabs her backpack with her books in it, and turns around to see Kip and Ren in the crowd.

Kip sees her and waves. "See you tomorrow! She yells to her with Ren in tow.

"See ya tomorrow!" Danny yells back. Danny opens her phone and notes down that she has seen Kippy and Ren together.
