Jacob lived in the orphanage for just over a month, before he was taken in by his loveing foster parents.
He moved out at nineteen, and got married at twenty one, to his girlfriend, katline that he had been seeing since highschool, they had their, two kids, John and beth, a year later.
Ten years later Jacob drove his family down to his parent's old cabin.
When they arrived at the cabin, Jacob fiddled with his keys.
"Where are these damn keys." He muttered under his breath, when he finally found them, the door swung open, his kids ran in, and him and his wife stepped in with their bags, Jacob flipped the switch, and the lights flickered on.
"Are you sure we should stay here." Kate whispered. "I mean a man died here."
"Relax, that was almost thirty years ago, its fine."
Kate agreed and they both went to find the kids, they found them in a bedrom playing with their toys.
"Come on, its time for bed." Jacob said picking John up, and caring him into the other bedroom they put the children to bed before going to bed themselves.
The next afternoon the four went for a walk in the woods, John and Kate seemed to be reluctant, in till Jacob told them.
"If you behave yourselves then after dinner we're roast marshmallows."
After the kids heard that they seemed to become more exited.
The four hiked in till it was dark, when they got back Jacob went out into the woods, to collect firewood, after about ten minutes he was holding a large pile of sticks, when he bent down to pick up, when he saw large footprints, or pawprints, they were wolf like, but they were much to big to be a wolf's, he tried not to think much of it, picked the stick, and turned to walk back to the cabin.
Crack
Jacob wheeled around, rather fast, looking around but he didn't see anything, he looked around for a few minutes, before turning and walking back.
About an hour later, after the kids had went to bed, he told Kate about the prints.
"Oh my god, are you sure we should stay here?" She asked.
"Its fine, they were leading away from here." Jacob said.
"I still don't know about this place." Kate said.
"Please, give it a chance." Jacob said. "This place was part of my childhood." He said.
"Fine but I'm going to bed, I don't feel safe out here." She said, getting up, and walking in, to the cabin.
Jacob stayed outside, for another hour before getting up, and putting the fire out, after he put the bucket down, he saw something large staring at him from the tree line, he recognized the Wendigo immediately, and raced over to him, the Wendigo, squatted down, and outstretched his arms, Jacob Jumped into his arms, wrapping his arms around his neck, the Wendigo hugged him back.
"I missed you so much." Jacob sobbed, burying his face in the fur of the Wendigo's chest.
"I missed you too." The Wendigo said, in his same comforting voice, that Jacob remembered him having, and he was quickly cheered up. "How long has it been?" The Wendigo asked.
"Almost thirty years." Jacob replied.
"Wow it really has been sometime, hasn't it" The Wendigo said.
"Yeah we have a lot of catching up to do, don't we." Said Jacob.
"Would you like to go somewhere, and talk?" The Wendigo asked.
"I would love that." Jacob said.
And with that the Wendigo stood up, and with Jacob still in his arms, walked into the woods, they came to a clearing, and the Wendigo sat down on a large boulder.
"So, Jacob tell me why are you doing here?" The Wendigo asked.
"I'm staying here with my wife, and kids." Jacob said.
"W-wife? Kids?" The Wendigo said, confused. "God you've changed so much." He said.
"Yeah, well you've changed a lot to." He said, "I mean you're twice the size you were."
"No, I've always been this size, I just didn't want to scare you." The Wendigo said. "But, it really has been, hasn't it?" he said.
"Yeah it has." Jacob agreed. "So what have you been up to?" He asked.
"Nothing much." The Wendigo said. "Except missing you." He added.
"Can I ask you something?" Jacob asked.
"Jacob you can ask me anything, you want." The Wendigo said.
"Why d-did you leave me?" Jacob asked.
"W-what?" The Wendigo asked.
"Why did you leave me, why didn't you t-take me with you?" Jacob asked, starting to cry.
"Hey, it's ok, it's ok." The Wendigo said. "Don't cry, don't cry, I'm sorry, very sorry, that I didn't take you with me, believe me I wanted to so badly, but...but it wasn't safe for you to stay with me." The Wendigo said comforting him.
"I-I Just don't understand." Jacob said.
"I don't expect you to." The Wendigo said. "And I wont be able to explain it to you." He said.
The two talked back and fourth for an hour or two, before, the Wendigo carried him back to the cabin.
On the way, Jacob asked. "Don't you think its weird that I'm an adult, and you're still carrying me?" Jacob asked.
"Yes maybe, but do you want me to stop?" The Wendigo asked.
"No, no I don't." Jacob said.
"That's what I thought." The Wendigo said, nuzzling him.
When they got to the edge of the woods, the Wendigo set Jacob down, they were about to go their separate ways, when Jacob stopped the Wendigo.
"Can you do me a favor?" He asked the Wendigo.
"Yes, of course." The Wendigo said.
"Can you make sure my kids stay safe while we're here?" He asked.
"You're worried, because of what happened to you here, huh?" The Wendigo asked.
"Please can you just do it?" Jacob said.
The Wendigo could tell Jacob was becoming upset. "Look, I know, what happened back then scared you, but you have to get the fear out of your head, those man can't hurt, their dead, I killed everyone of them after what they did to you, so they couldn't hurt anyone else, do you understand?" He asked.
"I understand." Jacob said.
The Wendigo, placed a hand on Jacobs shoulder. "I'll stay around in till you guys leave, and I'll make sure you kids are safe." He said.
"Thank you." Jacob said.
"Your welcome." The Wendigo said.
They stood in silence for a few minutes, in till Jacob finally spoke. "Guess this is goodbye." He said.
"Hmm, I guess it is." The Wendigo said. "And I think its time you join your family again." He said.
"I know, I just don't like the fact, that I'll never see you again." Jacob said.
"I know how you." The Wendigo said. "I don't like it either, but you have to except it." The Wendigo said, standing up, turning Jacob and pushing him towards the cabin.
When Jacob reached the door, he turned to wave to the Wendigo, but he was already gone.
