Elina hurried down the street. She had no time for idle chatter with Shelly or the new tenant who would leave her alone just like everyone else.
She ran to the cafe he had requested to meet her at.
He was always like this, always making her run to him instead of meeting her during her own time. Part of her believed it was because he had never forgiven her for their first encounter. Then again who could blame him. It was obvious she wasn't sorry and she wasn't going to be anytime soon to say the least.
She swerved around a group of people waiting for the bus along with the tall and stubby apprehensions that surrounded them. She could run through the foggy beings if she wanted too but she always felt goosebumps whenever she did and much rather not deal with that at the moment. Especially when she was meeting him. The man who gave her enough anxiety to last a week.
When she was younger she had been bolder even daring to grab his gleaming pistol at one point and be haunted by the apprehensions for a week. Now that she was nearing twenty two she much rather not even be close to him finding herself plagued by grotesque beings for a day just from his presence.
She ignored the thought as she reached the bustling cafe at last. She took a deep breath before exhaling.
She could already see him at a table through the glass window sipping a cup of coffee from a white ceramic cup. His arms folded while his hat sat upon the wooden table. He didn't look a day over twenty five as he sat with an air of prestige and wealth. Well that was until he smiled at nothing.
She let out a scoff and rushed to the entrance that gave a soft ring when she entered.
"Welcome," she heard someone say beyond the counter.
She hardly noticed the barista as she quickly slid into the cold chair in front of him and folded her hands in a calm manner that they both knew was faked respect.
"Mr. Neto," she said with formality that would probably melt away in a few minutes.
"Elina," he nodded. "How have you been sweetie?"
She cringed and he found it most amusing. "Just fine Mr. Neto and you?"
"Oh just the typical world jumping, wisp killing, nothing you need to concern yourself with."
"I beg a differ." she retorted.
He smirked taking another sip of coffee. "Why do you think that?"
She took her hands off the table forcing herself to meet his golden eyes. "You have yet to tell me what I am."
He gently lowered his cup, making her wonder if she had caught him off guard. He gave a wide eye stare that matched his gaping mouth. He closed his mouth and turned away a movement she was familiar with.
"Don't try to change the subject."
"Have you used your dagger?"
She rolled her eyes. "What did I just say?"
"This is related to that." he glanced to her choker. "Well, have you?"
