Xuyun almost finished saying the keyword, if it wasn’t for the thin pile wood that knocked onto his head. “Sui??” he turned to look for the voice, but was knocked instead by other scraps that kept being thrown to him.
“Hey! Sui! Stop it!”
Then, he felt his collar was being pulled forward.
“Senior! Do you think I’ve died!? How could you just kill me like that, huh?”
In front of him, the youth glared at him, his eyes redden.
He was alive. He was still alive, Xuyun wanted to pull him into his embrace, but the other party pushed him. He cried.
“I’m not gonna die!” he shouted. “Don’t go back to the past and leave me like this! I want to stay with you for a long time! I love you a lot more, idiot! I have loved you for a long time!”
He cried and cried. Xuyun hugged him. Maybe because it was raining, but the water that flowed into his cheek felt hot. Xuyun couldn't keep his feelings from overflowing.
“How could I believe that you won’t die this time too? I tried to save you again and again, yet you kept leaving me. I’m going crazy, Sui…. How can I die with you?”
How many times have you gone back to the past? How many times have you watched me dying? You must suffer a lot. “Senior… you idiot. Why didn’t you tell me?”
But, before Xuyun could answer, another wave smashed them. They were swept by the current, but this time, they hold each other’s hand tightly.
Once they had grasped for the air, Sui shouted, “I won’t die, senior! I’m not seeing such a thing in my vision! Believe me!”
“When you saw it before, you never told me either!” replied Xuyun. He reached for Sui, hold his shoulder.
Another wave swept them again. Their head were hit into a power pole. Few drops of red liquid merged with the sea water. Xuyun was about to shout Sui’s name, before Sui shouted first, “I am fine!”
They found a floating wooden board, then climbed over it.
“I’m going to stay alive this time, and so are you,” Sui’s face looked tired, but he still smiled.
They was a sentence Xuyun always wanted to say to Sui but he couldn’t. Because at 6 PM, Sui would always die, always. He couldn't give Sui a false hope, as he didn’t believe in hope anymore. But this time, it was Sui who give him hope, Xuyun wanted to deceive himself and accept that hope.
As if someone heard their conversation, a yellow dot appeared from a far. Then, it slowly became big and bigger. It was a rescue boat. They found them on the floating wooden board.
“The storm had subsided, let’s go before it goes berserk again,” the rescue team invited them to go into the boat. They just realized that the storm had calmed down. Xuyun looked at his watch It was 6:04 PM.
Xuyun reached for Sui’s back of the head and stared at his face. He looked at his eyes, nose, mouth and forehead, neck until his legs. He was alive. He was alive!
They passed 6 PM! They were really alive this time, just as Sui had said.
Only at this time, he finally knew the meaning ‘happiness’.
He pinched Sui’s cheeks gently, then leaned over. He kissed Sui’s lips with all his heart, as if he wanted to make sure that this guy was alive, by his breathe, his warmth.
Sui was dumbfounded. His first time kissing experience was with Xuyun! He couldn’t be happier. So this was what kissing felt like. He even forgot about the rescue team next to him. Sui only thought that it was so comfortable, wasn’t senior too good at this? Even a lone wold could do this, he had to learn a lot.
The rescue team looked at them, as if they accidentally seen a girl undressing. They felt awkward to look, in the other hand, they were also curious. After all, two guys kissing in public was not a view to be seen everyday.
But they were, after all, a public saviour. They urged them to quickly get into the boat, before the storm rage again.
Embarrassed, Sui lifted his legs, trying to get in. But, before his feet touched the boat, his body was pulled backwards. He fell on Xuyun’s chest. Then, he heard loud screams.
The boat was bitten by a crocodile. Then, a lot of other crocodiles joined in. The boat sunk, the rescuer team had no choice but to climb to a near rooftop. Xuyun immediately pulled Sui onto the other higher rooftop.
“How is your legs?” Xuyun quickly asked him.
Sui didn’t feel anything. It was happening so fast, he still couldn’t move his gaze from the crocodiles. They were salt water crocodiles. How did they ended up here?
Xuyun raised Sui’s leg. There was a huge scratch from the crocodile’s teeth. If Xuyun didn’t pull him faster, maybe one of his leg would be gone by now. Looking at Xuyun’s expression, Sui tried to hold his pain. “It’s just a scratch.”
But Xuyun gripped his hands. “We passed 6 PM, but it has got worsen. You could die any moment now.”
Sui froze. He tried to predict his own future, but it was dark. He couldn’t see it. He turned his head, tried to see other people’s, but it was futile. The only future he could see was Xuyun’s. It was still that annoying vision, it still hadn’t change.
“You’re going to go back to the past if I died again, aren’t you?” Sui asked, unhappy.
“How can you tell?” Ah, of course, you still can see my future.
Sui was quite annoyed at him for throwing back the question. He thought that Xuyun finally willing to talk to him truthfully, but it was just his wish. “Not telling you,” Sui looked away, pouting.
“Okay, I will not do that.” Xuyun finally promised him. He patted Sui’s head, then smiled tenderly. “If you die, I’ll die too, yeah?”
“You’re lying. I still can’t see the future. You’re going to the past again,”Sui punched his stomach.
“That’s a relief. Don’t you always hate seeing the future? You can finally live in this moment.”
Sui felt silent. That was right. He couldn’t see the future now because of this idiot. He couldn't see what would happen next. Everything was a mystery now. There was nothing to fear about, nothing to restrict him, nothing definite anymore, because his accurate vision was gone. He could still see senior’s future, but there were no definite time. It could happen now, tomorrow, maybe next year.
Just like what life was supposed to be. Everything could happen. You just had to treasure this moment like a gift, a present.
He was feeling better. “That’s a good point.”
Xuyun held his hand. Really, it really happened. Xuyun could feel the warmth of his hand. He finally could stay a little longer with Sui. Didn’t matter how long, it was enough.
Above them, the sky was turning dark blue, the clouds had gone. It was clear. The moon shone brightly, besides it, the stars shone too.
“We can finally see the stars,” Xuyun smiled. The background wasn’t really neat. They sat on a tattered roof, under it a lot of scraps set ashore. You could even found some crocodiles waiting under the water surface.
“Wow, it has been so long since I’ve found the stars in the night. Maybe because here’s the beach.” Sui was stunned. Then he saw something and laughed. “I wonder what other creative ways would they use to kill me next time? Maybe a meteorite crash?”
Xuyun glared at him. “We had visit a planetarium one day. You got crushed by the planetarium’s lamp, it pierced both of your eyes. They operated you for 6 hours.”
Sui instantly turned pale. He covered his eyes, feeling the pain. “No, no, no, skip! Skip!”
“Another time, you got shot by a rifle…”
“Senior! Tell me about our dates instead!”
“…Fine. Once, we went to a library. You drew me in those books, then tucked it inside my bag. When I opened it, it says, ‘you should smile more often.’ I fell in love instantly after that,” Xuyun laughed. Sui blushed like tomatoes.
“Ah! Unfair!! You know all my embarrassing moments, but I don’t know yours!”
“We got plenty of time,” Xuyun smiled at him.
Let’s find more about each other.
We have plenty of time. This time of ours, where there’s no past, there’s no future. Only this time, this moment, when we are together.
