Unwilling Goddess

Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Aug 10, 2020

I bolted up in bed, breathing hard & sweating. I knew I had had a night terror, problem was, I didn't remember it. Voices started murmuring to me throughout my entire morning routine; I had been diagnosed with Schizophrenia, but the doctors weren't aware of what I could do. The cult was somewhat right... I wasn't the Goddess they thought I was, but I did have some abilities. I could make people listen to me, read a few minds & can make things, but nothing really god like, at least in my opinion. Psychic, maybe, but not a God. But, sometimes the voices get really bad; so bad that sometimes, I can see the person they belong to. "Charlie, you look really pretty today." I freeze up while changing in my room. There was a little, pale boy sitting on my bed; he had green eyes & sandy colored hair. He wore a simple red shirt & jeans, smiling wide. "C-Charles...? Charlie, why are y-" I had to take a deep breath to settle myself. Demi thinks that the hallucinations are just my nightmares but something tells me otherwise. Charlie smiles at me sweetly as I try to ignore him, changing into a tshirt dress & jeans.

"You... you aren't real."

"You sure? I can touch you to prove it."

"Doesn't matter... I know you're just in my head."

"Come on-"

His voice changes to something more mature, what I would've imagined his voice to sound like at my age. His whole body turns black, as if he's a shadow, but there are large green glowing spaces for his eyes. "It matters a little." he muses. "LUNA, BREAKFAST!" he snorts,as I shout a 'coming' to Demi in response. "Right... you go by Luna now. Hey, maybe you should let her call you Charlie. You liked it when I did." he says, following me down the stairs. "Morning Moonshi-woah... you ok?" I nodded as I see Charlie get right up in Demi's face. "Stop it..." I growl. "Stop what? You see someone?" I didn't respond, but she gets it. She moves around to see if my eyes stay with her & sure enough, they do. "Right in front of me huh? Who is it?" he giggles. "Yeah Charlie, who am I?" tears begin to fall as his stance becomes remorseful. "Woah, woah, woah... h-hey... it's alright." I hug her tightly. "I-It was C-Cha-" I can't force the words out. "Sorry to bring this up now but... Crow." she says as I let her go to make a plate of food. "Are you sure he isn't one of the kids from the cult?" I nod. "Demi... he's not. I remember each & every one of their faces & names. Their favorite colors & birthdays... none of them are Crow." she gives me a worried expression. "A-Are you sure?" my stern look gives her the answer she needed. "Ok then Luna. I trust you. On a separate note, the station keeps trying to set me up with Malcolm again." I chuckle. "You clearly like him." she blushes. "T-That isn't-" I give her a smirk. "Ok, ok. Fine, I guess I do. He's funny but way out of my league... most guys hate a decently smart girl. & I went to school for psychology." I shrugged.

"Why not ask him to lunch."

"He won't go for it."

"Can't know until you try."

"Meh... I guess."

We kept eating as a phone went off; it was mine. "H-Hello?" there was silence for a while. "Hello?" yelling suddenly emitted from the phone. "HIIIII!" I backed the phone away at the childish voice. Demi gave a odd look. "What? What is it?" I shrugged. "It's a kid on the other end... but it's coming from Crow's phone..." she shrugged back at me.

"Helloooooooo?"

"H-Hello... um, who is this?"

"I'm Rook. Are you Crow's girlfriend?"

"E-Excuse me?"

"ROOKIDEE YOU LITTLE SHIT, GIMMIE BACK MY PHONE!"

"He's got hearts & a puppy emoji by your name!"

"H-He what?"

"Luna, what's going on?"

"I SWEAR I'M GONNA KILL YOU!!!"

I heard something break, an 'uh-oh' & then the call dropped. I was very confused as my phone rang again. It was Crow again. "C-Crow, what ha-" "Say one word about any of what he told you & it will NOT end well." I scoffed. "Oh, I know you're not trying to scare me." there was a sharp inhale. "N-No... no, sorry. J-Just forget what you heard earlier, alright?" I chuckle. "Ok, ok. I promise. So, we gonna work on this project later?" I heard murmers in the background. "U-Uh huh, yeah. I-I'll send you the address in a se-NO STELLA SPIT THAT OUT-IT'S PLASTIC YOU DUMB-" I heard a strained & annoyed groan. "That damn cat... come by at like... 230. Alright?" I held back a snort. "Yeah, sure. Later."

Crow didn't live to far away from me, so I was able to walk there no problem. Demi tried to drive me but I declined. "A-Are you sure?" I nodded. "You're sure that the hallucination can't hurt you?" I had lied, saying yes. Unfortunately, Charlie was following me. "Where we going?" I ignored him, petting a stray cat I saw. "Animals were always sweet to you... why don't you get a pet?" I huffed, now putting headphones in my ears. He appears in front of my face, lips moving but the music was too loud for me to hear. "Just shut up." I say, waving my hand through him; he vanishes as I reach the front door. Before I could even knock, the door swings open. Crow was standing there, a Siamese cat on his shoulders. "H-Hey." he huffs. I notice beads of sweat on his forehead. "Hi..." he just looks at me, like he doesn't know how or why I'm at his front door. "The project-c'mon in." he says, moving so I can come in. "C-Cute cat." I comment, removing my pink sneakers. Crow smirked. "It's my sisters'; name's Stella. She doesn't really like p-" the cat jumps down & starts rubbing against me. "Alrighty... that's a bit odd." I pet the cat, getting excited as she raises up on her hind legs, seemingly hugging my arm. It opens its mouth a few times, resting its teeth on my arm. "Ok, no." Crow gently picks up the cat & sets it inside of a cat house. "What? She wasn't bothering me." he nods, sighing. "I know, I know but she doesn't know when to quit. Follow me." he started to head up some stairs & I follow behind. "I hope you don't mind being in my room." he says. "N-Not at all..." I say.

"Where'd all that spunk from over the phone go?"

"O-On the other end of the phone."

"That normal for you?"

"Y-Yeah... d-doesn't everyone seem bolder behind a screen?"

"Alright, fair point."

He swings open a door & steps aside. "After you." he says. The room is larger than I expected & is painted purple; posters from various bands, games & anime are on the walls, many of which I recognized. "I-I brought my laptop so we can type at the same time..." he nodded. "Cool, cool. So um... the idea about the kid should be fun." he said, throwing himself on the bed. I stood over in the corner. "You can come sit. I'm not gonna bite... unless you want me to." he says, winking. I can feel my face go red. "S-Shut up." I elect to take a beanbag instead & he shrugs, sliding onto the floor with me. "Ok so... it's a kid seeing Odin when he's dead. But w-" "He was hiding from an abusive parent... got killed when he was found. It was a battle for his life & thus he sees Odin.  But when he sees Odin for the first time, Odin slams his cup, like usual which scares the kid so bad. He starts crying & trembling so bad that Odin gets off his throne & comforts the kid." I said softly. "Damn... you've been thinking on this huh?" I shrug. "M-Maybe a little... but it's your idea." he smiles at me, making my heart flutter. "Nah... that's good, let's do that." We spend over two hours working on some dialog, plot & even sketches for the characters. He had music playing faintly in the back, some in Japanese & from anime I knew, others seemed to be Vocaloid, then some regular songs too. I had caught glimpses of him mouthing & humming along, but I was doing the same thing too. "Luna, can I ask you somethin'?" he says as I type away on my laptop. "Sure." I heard his sketchbook close. "Why aren't you scared of me? Like you stutter near me, but I'm pretty sure that's shyness & not fear." I gave him an odd look. "I-I mean... you never really gave me a reason to be afraid of you... should I be?" he shakes his head. "I mean, isn't your mom a cop? You really think you should be hangin out with a thug like me?" I save & close my computer. "She's a detective now. But she trusts me; I know you're not a bad person-" "You can't be that sure." he says. I'm getting creeped out now; what is he talking about. "You didn't even flinch when I invited you to my room; we're here alone & the only one to save you is a cat. You should be more caref-" "Well luckly for her, you're not home alone & you're not that kind of asshole." A woman is standing in the doorway; she's very skinny & a tan color. Her hair is a velvet color & she has bright green eyes. She's wearing a sleeveless red turtleneck & shorts; around her neck are large green headphones. On her right shoulder is a rose tattoo & on her left leg is an emerald viper. "Sup? I'm Raven... ignore the hard ass over there." she says smirking; she has black lipstick on. "L-Luna... Luna Clark." she grins, Stella coming around her legs. "You hungry?" I nodded as Crow folds his arms, pouting. It reminds me of when you tell a kid they can't have anymore candy. "Y-Yes, thank you." she shoots a glare at Crow then walks out of the room. "Give me a few minutes & I'll be ready."
