When we got home, I smelled Mom's food, I couldn't stand it and I ran to the kitchen. She was preparing a vegetable stew, the smell was too good, even though I didn't like vegetables so much. Dad came right behind, he tried to sneak into his room. Our house wasn't that big, it had two bedrooms, the kitchen and a room my father kept his things. My mother realized that my father had gone to his room. She gave me food before going after him, I thanked her and smiled, she smiled back and went after my father.

The food was delicious, my mother is a very good cook. I don't like vegetables, but she does it in a way that looks really good. I started hearing some sounds coming from Dad's room and realized it was my mom yelling at my dad. So I went there to see what was going on. Dad was on the floor, and my mom had two wooden sickles, much like the ones I saw today. They were sharp but not so sharp, they seemed to be able to cut some weak things. She was going to hit him again, with the part that wasn't sharp but she looked back and saw me. She stopped, threw away the sickles and came to me.

"Al, your father had a pretty stupid idea to give you this as a gift." She pointed at the sickles. "And yet he had the courage to say that you wanted it, where you've seen blame a 5-year-old." I turned to her and said. "Mom, I wanted it, don’t blame dad. Today he showed me where they keep the tools, and I said I wanted these sickles." She looked at me again, worried about all this.

Dad got up and he had a bump on his head, and with a very sad and worried face. I couldn't stand it and started laughing, I found that very funny, it was very close to the forehead and you could see it clearly. My father looked at me confused, so my mother turned to look. She started laughing very loudly and in a very strange way, my father without understanding anything continued asking what had happened. After laughing a lot, Mom got up and stroked Dad's head right where she had hit him. She then apologized for hitting him.

We were in the kitchen after all this, my parents were eating and Mom would giggle every time she looked at Dad but she got serious and said. "Al, it's okay for you to want and have this thing, I still care about your safety, so you can only pick it up when your dad's home." It wouldn't be so bad, my dad only worked in the field in the morning and in the afternoon he works on the plantation here at home.

After eating, my dad wanted to talk to me, Mom was nauseous and went to bed for a while. We just had lunch, maybe it was just because of the mess. My father wanted to explain to me how the world worked. Then he started talking.
