Haven:
Everyone one is looking at us. That’s not supposed to happen. No one is supposed to be able to see us while we are using the perception spell. I look over at the others and see Amory on the verge of panic. I’ve been pushed to the side, with the rest of the bystanders. They either don’t know I’m with Amory and Aylward, or they don’t think I’m strong enough to worry about. I don’t blame them, I’m not strong enough to fight them off, but I am strong enough to keep Amory safe.
More guards come and surround Aylward and Amory, forming a close circle around them. None of the guards does anything, they just wait and make sure there are no holes the guys can get through. I look around for anything to distract a guard or two, but there is nothing. Everyone is focused on the tense scene in front of them. I have a bad feeling about what, or who, is coming.
Right when I am about to start screaming to startle them, Aylward lifts his hands with his palms outward. He looks like he is trying to show them he means no harm, and you can see the guards relax the tiniest bit. Then in the next minute a flash of blue light comes, followed by two of the guards flying straight up in the air. With a twist of his hand, Aylward brings the guards slamming back down to the ground. It only takes a moment for the rest of the guards to shake off their shock. A Flurry of red versus blue is lighting up the alley way. All the citizens move out of the way and seek protection from the buildings surrounding them.
I moved up close to the gateway, instinct telling me I am going to need to be ready to move at the first opening. Amory is stuck in state of stunned silence, looking back and forth between the guards and his uncle. I am about to yell for him to come to me when I notice Aylward fall to the ground, blood coming out of shoulder. I close my eyes for a moment and center myself. Blue lights surround the injury and the bleeding stops. It only takes a moment for me to heal Aylward, but seeing his uncle injured snaps Amory out of his stupor.
For the first time, I see a glimpse of his immense power. He doesn’t know much light magic, but he has been studying dark magic since he was a toddler and he uses every lesson he learned against all the guards. Two guards go flying into the side of a building, two more are lifted into the air and then flung into each other. The anger of seeing his uncle harmed has unleashed something inside of Amory. He has tapped into potential his father probably didn’t know he had.
All the guards are either incapacitated or dead, I don’t know which, so I yell for Amory and Aylward to hurry up. They start running toward me, focusing on getting through the gateway. The next thing I see is another battalion of guards, surrounding someone I can only assume is the Dark King, coming our way.
“AMORY! STOP THIS NONSENSE!” King Hadeon’s bellows are heard above all the commotion the fight caused. “You will never make it out of here, you belong with me.”
“I am not one of your possessions, father,” Amory stops running, turns toward his father, and stands to his full height. He shows no fear, no anxiety, nothing but a commanding confidence that had to have come from his mother. “I am Prince Amory, Heir of the Celestial Power and heir to The Dark Kingdom. I have never before seen power and I will never submit to you again.”
Next thing I see is Amory shoot a burst of blue from his hands, toward his father. The king manages to dodge the spell, but it distracts him enough that we can turn and start running toward the gateway again.
“Close the gateway! Do NOT let them leave!” King Hadeon’s voice is loud with his rage. His guards scramble to do as he told, but the three of us just barely manage to make it through before the gate closes. We run for another couple of miles, weaving in and out of roads and woods. We finally feel safe enough to stop and catch our breath. We made it to the human realm and can start on our way back to the Celestial Kingdom….finally.
