Great. I’m soaking wet and late. Not a great first impression, but it’s not like I care. Anyway, I hate being wet. It's so cold and just ugh! Comme c'est ennuyeux! I follow behind Calanta and that girl with the headscarf.

“Cal!” I try to get her attention.

“ Por favor, don’t call me that. What do you need Flannery?”

“Don’t you think it’s weird how these people seem so comfortable here? I mean, we were kidnapped!” The girl behind me in the headscarf looks back and in perfect French says,

“Vous avez été kidnappé? I thought everyone here was chosen. I’m Zariah, by the way.”

“Really? Well isn’t that just idéal! So no one else here was called a firebird and then knocked out? How about you Calanta!?” Oh, I am mad now. I hate being called out because I am different. “Did they come to you and say your some special snowflake and take you her-”

“Flannery,” I can’t see any emotion on Calanta’s face, but she sounds mad. “They took mi Madre, gassed me and I woke up with you and the other chica. So si, you have a right to be mad. But you can’t just take it out on me. And maybe the others went voluntarily, that doesn’t make them bad people. Por favor calm down, I’m trying to listen anyway. You should too.”

“Why? You want to stay here!? I can’t believe you after they freaking kidnapped us! Ugh!!!” She just ignores me, looking towards River at the front.

“....these are the art rooms! Pretty self-explanatory. Now, moving onto the gym, fighting room, and my personal favorite: the pool!” This makes me perk up. Fighting room? Oh oui. That sounds fun, but I still don't like this place at all. “So here’s the gym! If you have clearance to use it, your keycard will let you in. If not, it is for safety reasons. However, we do have a smaller exercise room if you want to use it during your free time. It also has a pool and hot tub. Anyway, the Fighting Room is also our armory. If your Category is Fighting, you will be spending most of your time here.” Why am I even on this tour? I already found where I’m going to spend all my time! Honestly, I don’t pay too much attention for the rest of the tour, until River says

“Now, I know I probably lost most of your attention a while ago, but please pay attention to this part.” If I weren't so curious, I probably wouldn’t have cared.

“This is The Ship, one of the most important parts of the Facility. It is a dock, essentially, where we land and release airships. If you get sent on a mission, you and your team will use an airship. Each week you will be spending one full day in the Ship, learning how to fly. Now, hear this because there will be severe consequences if this rule gets violated. No student will be allowed into the ship after hours or any time they are not actively participating in the class. It is dangerous, and we don’t want you to get hurt.

Now, that concludes our tour and orientation! You will continue to learn about the space as the weeks continue. So, to find your room, you have to look at the number on your ID. The first number is the floor, the second number is the hallway, and the third number is the door. There will be professors and adult leaders along the way to help guide you as well.

Once you reach your door, there will be a sign with your name on it and the names of your Pod members. No, we cannot change Pod members, and yes, they were chosen randomly. I’ve heard it all before, so don’t even try. Classes start tomorrow at 8. Meet in the Cafeteria for breakfast. Now, I must leave you to fend for yourselves. Have fun!”

With that, she leaves and walks into The Ship.
