Sonata, a town just on the west of Cirilla is inhabited by dwarves. The town is surrounded by mountains that are made into mining fields. Mining is one of the major sources of income for dwarves. But they also specialized blacksmiths, mechanics, fabricators, and every job that includes heavy work. It was said that dwarves are where royalties of different species come to if they need a new palace or an intricately designed robes.
This town is welcoming to other species from elves, beastman, fairies, and even immortal sorcerers. But there's only one specie they don't welcome that much, humans. And they don't hate the humans for no apparent reason. According to their history, dwarves once owned a large part of the country like the other species. They were treated equally until the humans came into their land and demanded that they work beneath them, when they rejected their offer they were slaughtered and driven and scattered out of their lands.
Only a handful have come to an empty land that they established as their new town. They settled in, at first they struggled but because of their skills they managed to bounce back from the great tragedy. They still allow other species to come in. But when it comes to humans they are either rejected before stepping in the border or if allowed suffer heavy persecution.
Just a few meters from the town entrance is where the bus station is situated. As the bus stopped the passengers unloaded. There were dwarves coming back home, elves, and other creatures to visit their families or to find someone to hire. Everyone who left the bus were then greeted by dwarves driving their tricycles. They were like fish swimming around looking for food. Most of the passengers rode in while others went to their family members who came to pick them up.
The last person to leave the bus stepped out. The tricycle drivers looked at him and they suddenly dispersed. Of course they would, after all it was a human. They left him some were quiet some left a few choice words. He looked dirty with his unkempt hair and stubble. He also was wearing a khaki shirt, around his body is a shoulder holster with large shoulder pads. He is wearing a large belt that has his short sword and another gun. On his black pants and boots.
The human growled softly in frustration. He knew that this was going to be hard.
"How much for a ride to the town?" The man asked in gruffy voice.
"We don't offer service for humans" The dwarf replied and sat near his foot.
"I'm an elf" He replied as he pointed at his gun on his shoulder strap.
"Nice try be we ain't offering you jack"
The human snarled softly and looked around. He saw one moving tricycles. He walked towards the same direction as the tricycle. It took about thirty minutes of walking until he reached the town gate. The border guards suddenly became aggressive in the sight of the human. As he got closer they stood up and were filled with tension.
As the human got closer he pulled up his phone. It looked like a plexiglass the size of an iphone, it was powered by magic. It displayed a message from the town head. It was a job order request filled by the mayor through the guild. The job was specific to be offered to the humans. The guards looked at it skeptically. He raised his eyebrow. The guards reluctantly allowed the man to enter.
The man observed Sonata. It was bigger than he imagined, there were skyscrapers as well as small buildings. The people that walked around the place are a mixture of different species. Yet there's no human to be seen. The man pulled out his phone and checked the map for the nearest bar. He found one about a four minute walk from him. As he walked to the bar he could feel the disgusted looks aimed at him. He ignored it all.
He arrived at the bar. It was noisy from the outside. As soon as he entered and he was noticed the noise died and everyone was looking at him. The elves and beastman only glanced while the dwarves glued their eyes at him. He moved towards the bar where few dwarves were sitting on the stool. He looked at the pricelist of the liquors and surveyed the bar. He hailed the bartender.
"Do you have a scan to pay?" He asked.
"Humans pay in cash" The bartender replied with a tone of racism.
The human took a few bills off his pocket in the exact amount of the beer. "I'll have a pint please" He asked nicely.
"Oh that's not the pricelist for humans. You get to pay double" He said loudly and every dwarf laughed.
The man seemed unfazed by the persecution that he pulled additional money and added it. "Now can I get beer?"
The bartender was frustrated. He left and poured the man his drink. He placed a half filled pint in front of the man. The man covered it with his hand as he looked at the bartender with a dead eyed stare. The bartender was about to take the money when the human took the majority of it leaving only half of the original price.
"What the hell?" The bartender frustratedly asked.
"I only pay what I owe. And that's for half a glass of beer." The man then drank the half glass. He let off a dissatisfied moan. "Didn't even scratch my throat" he stood up and went for the door.
As he walked a drunk elf blocked his path. The drunk kept pointing at the man. The man grunted. His face then said 'do you mind'. The drunkard pushed him lightly. He was pissed at the drunk. On the other end of the room he saw someone raising his glass with the intention of throwing it at the man. As the drunk raised his fist the glass flew towards the man. The man stepped aside and the glass meant for him hit the drunk.
The drunk was thrown off balance. He collapsed. This became a signal to start a bar fight. All of them against the human. The rowdiness was heard from outside. None dared to go in and stop the fight. It was about a few minutes of shouting and glass shattering that the man burst out of the door. He rolled back up, clenched his teeth and fist ready to charge back in. Two drunk dwarves and elf followed the man. As the man stood up ready to fight his would be assailants paused. Soon everyone in the bar stopped. The man was confused, then he looked back. It was the town's mayor.
"Am I right to assume that you're the one who started this horseplay?" The mayor asked the human.
"I only acted on self defense"
"Well the commotion you caused today only reminded us of why we don't allow humans here" He condescended. "I am afraid I must ask you to leave"
"And what about your pest problem?" The human dusted himself and took out his phone.
The mayor realized who the man is. He lowered his head "I'm sorry... I never thought you'd be early."
"I'm here now. Can we talk business?"
"Yes but not here. In the capitol, we'll discuss this at length."
