"I can't believe you talked me into letting you come with us." Ren sneered.
Anette walked on her tiptoes so as not to scrape her feet. She held tight to Ren's sleeve. "I couldn't let you leave me behind." She secretly smiled, satisfied with her victory.
Ren halted as they reached the opening of the the underwater cave. "Araja, you carry Anette underwater. Nico and I will swim in first." The opening was a five foot round oval shaped hole in the rock. It was filled with sea water.
"Ladies first, Captain." Nico bowed sarcastically as Ren rolled her eyes and jumped in the water, holding her breath. After her, Nico then took a dive down into the deep well of water.
"Young maiden, please allow me to carry you." Araja bowed formally. He may look tough and bulk, but he also has the features and personality of a gentlemen.
Startled, Anette slightly nodded and Araja lifted her by her legs. "Hold your breath." he instructed. And with that they both jumped into the water.
Anette opened her eyes to nothing but darkness. She took a breath and choked on the sea water she had accidentally swallowed. In the middle of swimming to the other side of the watering whole, Anette forgot she couldn't breathe underwater. She felt a hand grab her arm and pull her to a standing position.
"Lovely? Are you alright." The voice soothed the uneasy maiden. The captain pulled Anette close to her. The warmth of Ren's arm wrapped around her shoulder made her feel a little safe in the darkness.
"Hold on Captain, let me get a light." Nico said as he took a match (that he kept in a place where it couldn't get wet.) and lit a lantern he had brought along the journey.
Once Nico had managed to light the lantern, the group looked around, trying to get to know their surroundings. It was mainly rock all around them and damp sand on the cave floor. There was only one tunnel to walk from that point. Ren started for the tunnel, she pulled Anette gently by her arm to follow. The maiden stayed close to the Captain, holding onto her sleeve, she felt as if she could never let go.
Nico ran up next to Ren as they walked, holding the lantern in front of her.
They walked through the dark tunnel for a while. Anette winced ever so often when her bare feet scraped the sand the wrong way. Without realizing she tugged Captain Ren's sleeve hard when she had scraped her foot on a large rock, unable to see the ground.
Ren paused. "Stop Lovely."
Anette stopped her walking right behind the Captain. "What's wrong?"
"Let's go." Ren bent her knees pulled Anette down onto her back.
"R - Ren? What are you -"
"Please hold on tight Lovely." Ren jumped up with the petite girl on her back. She held on to Ren's legs that were wrapped around her waste. Ren smiled as she continued walking.
Araja and Nico followed, wondering if this was how the captain behaves all the times she's with that strange maiden.
Soon the group turned a corner and they started seeing a strange unnatural white light at the end of the tunnel. The light had an illuminous glow and lit up the tunnel, Water reflections could be seen at the roof of the cave.
They reached the end and saw another pool, except this one was much larger than the first, it was about the size of a large room. The water was crystal clear, you could see the very bottom of the pool many feet down. Around the rim of the body of water were piles and piles of gold coins. And in the middle of the pool was a rocky island with a large, old wooden chest sitting on it. The unnatural light of the pool it up the whole area entirely. The four could see everything in it perfectly.
In awe the group paused to look at the treasures. "Wow, I knew there was gold but not nearly this amount." Nico commented.
"We must wave caution Captain." Araja warned. "For this much treasure there must be a price."
With that, Ren set Anette down. She took a step into the room. Nico tried to follow her but the brave Captain gestured for him to stop.
Then, they heard something jump out of the water.
