I was washing the dishes when my mate walked in. James looked as embarrassed as the day before yesterday when we met and that he knocked his head over the table. His cheeks were tainted the same colour as his hair, a burning lava that haven't dry yet. He was fidgeting with his bouquet of flowers, always replacing whatever flower on one place that seemed to satisfy him better but then doubting and putting the victim of his nervousness back at its place. Then he would think back on his decision and, with a determined face, moved once again the poor thing to another position, just to put it back after a minute with an uneasy face. What a vicious circle that just made me want to take the damn flowers and throw them by the window.
This annoying repetition lasted for a good ten minutes before he decided that all the flowers were in the perfect place and approached me. I looked up and made eyes contact with him, putting on a confused face as if I had just seen him. I wasn't going to act as if everything I just saw had ever happened, because he would surely run away in embarrassment. I couldn't risk that after he finally decided to come, I would surely lose my self control and took him back by his collar. So damn annoying.
"H-hey, wouldyougoonadatewithm-eh…" he started to say really fast just to bite his tongue at the end. His face scrunched up and he let out his tongue, as if to let it cool down. I wondered if it really helped…
"Slower" I said with an exasperated face while letting out a big sigh at the end. I wasn't really annoyed at him; it was more the fact that he was so embarrassed. I meant if you liked someone, just assume it, don't be so goddamn embarrassed. It wouldn't lead anywhere to hesitate, well I guessed it was cute, but still.
"Sorry, would you like to go on a date with me?" He repeated after taking a big breath in and exhaling it. He putted on a serious face as he said that which was completely different from his first try. It was kind of hot. He also gave me the flowers and the chocolate box that I didn't know he had. I only just took note that there were little stuffed cats in the bouquet, and it made me blush a little. How did he know that I liked cats? I was sure that it was the doctor that spilled the tea, I was so going to make him pay!
I nodded at him and went to put the flowers in a vase after putting the flowers that were there before in the trash. I couldn't care less for those trivial things, those flowers were way more important, they held a meaning, a story. The story of our first date.
I felt my cheeks grow a little hotter as a big goofy smile plastered itself on my mate's face. Illuminating his whole being, I could nearly see the little angels flying around his head and hear the trumpets playing in harmony with the harps. There was only the big sun behind him that was missing to add light, but I thought that he was bright enough with his happiness to illuminate the whole world for a few decades. We could say with confidence that he was radiating happiness, literally.
What an interesting person…
