"Who would have known?"
One outstretched, casually dressed young man in wellington boots enquired out loud as he leaned over the front of the schooner, as far as his tiptoes and one hand of support would allow him, he gently tapped the surface before him.
Hard, clear glass, not a water spot or hint if shine, just invisible glass.
"Maybe this is why we can't catch anything, all the good stuff's that way?"
"This is a first for me"
Another fisherman answered slowly, an older man in dungarees, he looked on towards his more perplexed colleague.
"It's a good thing we were going so slow, otherwise our boat would have been totalled!"
He laughed a little
"Perhaps the borders exist for reasons, like this?"
The first fisherman began as he looked to the divide in the water
"Here's me thinking it was just politics behind travel barriers"
"In part maybe? Yet what's the excuse behind my visa application being declined?"
The other fisherman added before turning around and moving further down the boat.
"Come on mate, back to work, the ocean's full of oddities, you're looking like a right beginner"
The younger fisherman looked to his colleague, he then turned to give the clear surface one last glance before following his colleague down the boat.
"Hey maybe it's man-made, and your visa got declined because us fisherman may know too much?"
The younger fisherman could be heard saying before adding
"Or maybe they're on to your side work?"
~
The older man stayed on the deck as the younger turned the boat around and headed away. The entire time looking towards the, barrier, or what lay behind it with an expression that was hard to read.
~
Visible from the other side of the glass where the two fishermen and their entire boat, they were lifting their net and retrieving their catch.
~
You see, now we've crossed the boundary, to a place you don't know..
~
Damn Princess Vegas, a famous figure in these parts, a swamp green sea maiden of atleast 7ft; mermaids to some, siren to others etc, gazed on at the two men.
In spite of treading water mere metres away from their stationery boat, they were totally unaware of her presence.
"Why are they always unattractive?"
She asked aloud as she uncrossed here folded arms and relaxed hair scowl
"Can't they at least be wealthy?"
She muttered under her breath before sinking into the water.
Vegas, as she's more commonly known, swam away, deeper down into the waters depth.
The focus remained on the fisherman. The reason for this? Another observed them. Its disembodied voice spoke from this, fantastic, side of the glass
" please come back tomorrow"
