Devyn took one more look into the boy's eyes before dread consumed him. "Y-You're possessing a human body. You're a demon."
The boy's face flashed in anger as people began to stop what they were doing to stare at the two of them. Most likely they hadn't heard their exchange, but they understood there was a problem. The cashier inched closer and closer to her register, probably to alert the authorities if they needed to be.
"Come with me, now. Your father's waiting. Do you want to let on to the rest of the people here what you are?"
'What I am?' Nothing this boy was saying was making any sense. Had they captured his father? If so, why would they be deliberately bringing his son to him unless they wanted something out of it. Even so, he wasn't going anywhere with this boy until he told him everything.
Slowly, Devyn backed away from the boy, the forgotten donut falling from his hand. "Where's my father and what have you done to him?" His voice was barely over a whisper.
A confused look passed over the boy's face before he laughed. Fangs poked out from his gums and brushed his bottom lip. "So, they haven't really told you anything. That human that's been keeping you alive. He hasn't told you who your real father is, who I'm here to take you to. What you really are."
Devyn took another step towards the door as the cashier's arm quickly darted under the register before she turned around, seeming to ignore them. The boy growled as he turned his attention to her. Shit… I can't stay here with him. Innocent people will be in danger!
Devyn took that chance to bolt out the door, the glass cracking as it hit the wall. When he looked back, the boy was still standing beside the table in the café, staring after him. Maybe he wouldn't follow. And if he did, Devyn would be ready for him. He just needed to reach the house before anyone else.
Something slammed into his back, knocking the wind from his body. Gasping, he fell straight into a puddle of grimy water. He sputtered and coughed as he rolled over, clutching his sides. His vision dimmed as he looked up at a silhouette standing before him, his arms crossed against his chest. His boot rested on Devyn's legs, keeping him from getting up.
That was the last thing he remembered before his consciousness faded away.
A/N: Hello, and thank you for reading my story! It means a lot to me. I've always wanted to write and bring my stories to life, so I'm starting to put more effort into doing so. Here on Tapas, episodes for my story can only be 15k characters long, and most of my episodes are chapters, which contain about 20-30k characters, so there will be parts. Each chapter will come out once a week (which is my goal, anyway), usually on a Friday. Feedback is always welcomed!
