Fifteen minutes later, she was out the shower and dressed in the oversized shirt he had given to her. She stood in front of the bed, wringing her fingers.
“Zuri, just get in the bed.” His eyes were closed, his long muscular body stretched across the bed.
She didn’t realised she was staring at him until he spoke; she rapidly tore her eyes away from him. “I don’t usually get into bed with strange men I don’t know.” Especially one that looked like you, she thought. He was going to be the dead of her.
He moved fast grabbing her hand and pulling her on down on top of him, which caused her to yelp as he did. She instantly felt her nipples hard from the contact, she hated that he could get that kind of reaction from her.
Her eyes widen as she watched the deep purple dance across his eyes and the smirk on his face and she willed her body to stay still.
His hand gently brushed a lock of hair from her face behind her ears, the touch sent a sensation throughout her entire body and she forcibly swallowed a moan back down.
“Good thing, I’m not a man.”
“Like I can forget. Excuse me.” She scrambled of him and laid down.
She looked around her then turned back and forth trying to get comfortable when he growled, she stopped moving. She was cold and he apparently didn’t sleep with blankets, so she curled up shoving her legs into the shirt.
“Your friend messaged you.”
She turned her head slightly towards him, “What?”
“Did you not hear me?”
“I did but how did you know that?”
She felt him shift, “I looked at your phone. It is under the pillow by the way.”
She sat up and looked at him, ‘You went through my bag?”
He looked at her as if she was asking a stupid question, “Yes.”
She huffed and snatched the phone from under the pillow then opened it and read the messages from Ari.
Shit, she was freaking out. She quickly messaged her back saying she fell asleep on the train and her phone fell and cracked when she ran off the train before getting home and she would talk to her tonight.
She quickly checked if Romi had messaged her and sent a quick I love you text to him.
She shoved the phone back until the pillow and turned her back to him. Asshole.
“You’re upset.” He stated.
“No shit, Sherlock.”
“Why?”
“Are you seriously asking me that, dude you don’t just go through a woman’s bag and especially her phone.”
He still didn’t open his eyes, which pissed her off even more, “Do you have something to hide?”
“What? No, of course not.”
“Then it should not matter.”
“It does matter! It’s about respecting one’s privacy. How would you like it if I just searched through all your things?”
This time he opened his eyes and turned to her, he took her face and turned it towards him, “Firstly, I would let you because I have nothing to hide even though I just met you. Secondly, if you were mine, I would allow you to hide anything from me. Thirdly, since you’re here you don’t get to hide from me, and you don’t get to be mad at me.”
Subconsciously, she licked her lips as her gaze focused on his lips, an image of those very lips pressed against her body threaten to make her come undone.
“Fine, you’re a bully by the way,” was the only think she could think to say.
He smiled, “Among other things.” He lied back down and covered his eyes again.
She stared up at the ceiling.
“How old is your child?” he spoke breaking the silence.
“Eight.” She smiled as she thought of Romi.
“I see why you were willing to take on a horde of demons, now. He’s with his father now.”
She looked at him again wondering how he got her phone open to know that but decided not to ask. She sighed, “Yes for the summer.”
“You’re sad about it.”
“Yes, but I can’t keep them apart so I’m learning to let go a bit. It’s been just me and my son for a while now didn’t have to share him.”
“No human partner?”
She laughed softly, “No.”
“Good.”
“Why?”
“I’ll take you home tonight, I promise.”
“Ok.”
A moment later, she felt his wings under her; it then spread out and wrapped her before pulling her next to him. She turned and looked at him, but he was asleep from what she could tell. His entire face was relaxed, and his mouth fell slightly open. By the gods, he was beautiful, grey skin with horns and all.
However, she knew nothing could come from letting her attraction run wide. They couldn’t date much less be seen together in her world or his. That was no way to have any kind of relationship even a strictly sexual one and those she didn’t entertain anymore. She wanted something more stable and meaningful, someone she could bring around her son and would love him as much as they did her. No sense in thinking about it anyway, she thought. Tonight, I’ll be home finally.
Zuri jumped awake as the event of the night before came to her in a nightmare. She clutched the shirt that was now wet from the sweat rolling down her body. His wing shuttered under her then wrapped itself around her, she smiled slightly. “it seems you have a mind of your own huh. I’m okay just a nightmare but can I just sit up for bit?”
His wings shuttered again before releasing her, she chuckled and sat up looking around the room. “Still can’t believe how ordinary this room is,” she swung her leg off the bed and stood up. His wing bristled grazing the back of her leg, “I’m just going to look around a bit, I won’t touch anything, and I won’t be long either.” The wing lifted and pointed its tip toward the window. “I won’t go outside, trust me, I don’t want to run into any more demons, monster or whatever they are.”
Seemingly satisfied his wings retracted back into its owner and left her to roam his space. She cautious walked around his room examining the paintings decorating his room, the art was seemed to depict the torment of hell and the pleasures of hell. She wasn’t surprised of the reversal; one image caught her attention more than the others. It reminded her of Luca Signorelli’s The Damned Cast into Hell painting, except in this one the demon is saving the damned from the angels of heaven. Interesting, she turned back looking at the beautiful demon asleep almost dead to the world. “Why are you automatically considered evil when you saved me? When you’re more human that most?”
She turned from him and walked to his bedroom door, gently opening it, and looked back one more time to make sure he wasn’t up staring back at her. The force that hit her and sent flying back into the bedroom, landing on her ass with a thud had her gasping for air. It knocked the scream out of her before she even had a chance of making it. She rolled to her side groaning as she rubbed the sore spot on her butt where she landed, “forgot about the gods to damn bracelet,” she croaked out.
