Heats
Heat: A term used to describe when an Omega is most fertile. The term is exclusive to the Omega sub gender and can be experienced by both female and male Omegas. Regular heat cycles occur six times a year, roughly every other month. Regular heat symptoms include but are not limited to: PHS (Pre-heat Syndrome), dizziness, loss of appetite, loss of awareness, decreased motor skills, production of slick, increased dependency, increased body temperature, etc. These symptoms can be treated with suppressants, which when taken correctly are completely safe with no known long-term effects on an Omega’s body or psyche.
Pre-Heat Syndrome: When an Omega’s body begins preparing for their Heat. During this period of time, an Omega will often experience weight gain, cramps in the lower abdomen/back, heightened emotions, and might begin nesting. An Omega’s scent will change, alerting potential mates that their heat is nearing. Not every Omega reports experiencing symptoms of PHS.
Risks: Every Omega’s heat differs, so risks during heat can vary greatly for each individual. There is one thing that every young Omega learns- going through a heat without suppressants or a mate is extremely dangerous. Omegas experiencing a heat alone are at risk for overheating, dehydration, and blood loss. The chances of surviving a heat alone are slim and will cause damage to an Omega’s reproduction organs and mental state.
Fertility
Male Alphas and Male Betas are not able to bear children as they lack female reproductive organs, however they are able to sire them.
Female Omegas and Female Betas are able to bear children, however they are unable to sire them as they lack male reproductive organs.
Female Alphas and Male Omegas are unique in that they are able to both bear AND sire children, as they have all the reproductive organs necessary to do so. They are sort of two ends of the same spectrum. Male Omegas have a high egg count and low sperm count, meaning that it’s much easier for them to carry children than sire them. On the flip side, Female Alphas have a high sperm count and low egg count, meaning it’s much easier for them to sire children than carry them.
Mating (Kind of conflicts with some stuff in TRK, but it’ll get fixed eventually)
Mating isn’t for life. For normal matings, the bite must be renewed every few months, as the bond fades over time. This has an evolutionary benefit in case of abusive or unwanted matings.
However, letting a mating bond fade is pretty taboo in most cultures. It’s sort of like getting divorced in the olden days, it just doesn’t happen often and the people in question are kind of outcasted from their communities. However, even if the bond fades, the scar is still there. So, someone with multiple mating bites, but no mates would be seen kind of like damaged goods? It’s pretty messed up, but yeah
