Finn was stuck in the carrier chair, tussling to move was strapped to the back seat of a Range Rover. For only a 2 year old, the car jerks on rutted dirt roads were overpowering. He would switch from sleeping to shrieking at the top of his voice. Lucas had to make it to the city before the rapidly following dusk and he wasn't going to stop the car to address the brat's shrieking.
"Shut up!" Lucas yelled pulling the gear on break. The sudden stop made the child pause and stare at his irked father. "Just shut up! I have never done this before and I am not responsible for this," Lucas groaned, looking at his son through the driver's mirror. He was just winging it and was failing.
After Lea left with her promised share of their life, Lucas was alone with Finn and a bigger hole in his pocket. He was never responsible for Finn or any of his siblings to take care for. He was never going to bust a gut to be an active parent and had spent most of his time worrying about his business. They only had a few miles before they made it to the little town. It was the middle of May - spring - so it was only starting to get dark.
Christ, why didn't she take him with her, Lucas asked himself as he turned away and started up the car again. Finn's face was wet with tears, and had the most erubescent face Lucas had ever seen. Lucas sighed, blinking back to make his stinging eyes to shed tears.
