Before I made it to my location.
I hopped out of the car. Ma hopped in. She honked the horn, “What time will you be done?” She asked. I told her I would text her. She disappeared down the road. I walked up to the small trailer and knocked on the door.
The door opened; it was a lousy sight to see. A fat man with a hairy face in his boxers and shorts smelling of alcohol. “What’s up?” He asked, “I’m looking for Tamera.” I said simply. “Oh...,” he replied. “I’m her tutor,” I told him he invited me in. The house was a mess. I mean, I knew plenty of people who lived in a trailer and they were homey and on point. But this place looked messy. The kitchen was filled with trash and dirty dishes, old pizza boxes.
It was a two bed one bath trailer and as soon as you walked in. It had chairs in what I assumed was the kitchen area. I walked the hall to the first door. The trailer carried a smell of mold. I knocked on it! “I'm coming,” she yelled. The door slid open like a closet—kind of like the planes and bus bathrooms. A girl came out of the room. A dark-skinned girl with green eyes; I do not remember ever seeing her in my classes. She was gorgeous
I remember all the annoying ass faces. That I came across. Tamera was beautiful. A little taller than me, so I’m assuming she was 5”2, and she was fuller than me. She was pretty chocolate, “Hi, I'm Valencia!” I introduced myself. “I’m Tamera,” she said quietly. I almost did not hear her.
We sat down in her room on her bed and pulled out my books. She pulled out hers a roach ran across the page. She hurried and closed it, embarrassed. “Paper boxes and pretty much anything is food for them if they can get to it,” I told her, opening her book. “What would you do if you saw a little human-run across your page?” I joked. “what?” She busted out laughing! “yall being too loud” the man said down the hall.
We started the study session, and I did a quick quiz to see what we needed to work on the strange thing about Tamera is she knew all the material. She answered all the questions, flawlessly. I stopped and raised my brow at her.
“Why do you need a tutor if you already know the material?” I asked her. She sat on her bed quietly. I looked at her and asked her again. “I just wanted a friend,” she said, pulling her glasses off her face.
I was not expecting that answer. I felt terrible, but I did not mind being Tamera’s friend. “I will be your friend,” I told her, smiling. “Would you like to come over to my house?” I asked her. “I’m not sure if I’m allowed,” she said, looking towards her bedroom door.
Something felt off! “Do you want to ask?” I asked her. “No, it’s okay,” she said. “Well, I guess I will see you at school tomorrow then,” I told her, leaving out. I called Ruby to tell her that I was done early. I waited for ruby. When ma arrived, I was about to leave. Then I realized I had left my tablet. I walked up to the door to knock on it. I heard thumping and screaming! Tamera screamed! Through the door, then I heard banging. I wanted to open it, but it wasn't none of my business. I didn’t know what was going on.
I didn't interfere because it wasn't my place, I knocked on the door and waited for about 5 minutes. The door opened, and the man opened the door, sweating. “What!” He yelled at me! “I forgot my tablet, I told him lightly stuttering. He moved and let me retrieve it. I walked back to the room to check on Tamera. And find my tablet. Her room was empty.
Where was she? I was headed out of her room. I quickly looked around before leaving, And I found her in the second room. The door was cracked; she was in the bedroom on the bed, putting on her clothes. I could see her; she looked nervous. I grabbed my tablet and flew out of the door. The man was watching TV.
I told Ruby everything.
She looked at me with an angry expression. Find out more, she told me, and we drove home.
