Brainstorm Book

I froze to the spot, wincing at the sound of the cans rolling and clattering across the ground. Though my back was turned away from Leonard and his companion, I could feel their eyes boring into the back of my head. I hoped, as Leonard couldn’t see my face, that he wouldn’t be able to recognize me. Unfortunately, I was wrong.

“I wouldn’t try to sneak away if I were you Rick.” He sighed, as I slowly turned around to face him.

“Oh hey Leonard!” I exclaimed, putting on a fake smile. “It’s such a coincidence that we were in the same warehouse at the same time!”

“Coincidence?” He spoke, raising an eyebrow. “I think not. I know you followed me here from work.”

“Look, I promise if you let me go I won’t interfere in whatever you're planning ever again.” I offered, taking a tentative step backwards.

“Ah, but I was hoping you would interfere.” He grinned, taking a step toward me. “I have an offer that I think will peak your interest.”

This sentence piqued my interest as the need to escape faded just a bit from my mind. I moved closer to him, intrigued by what he might have to say.

“What exactly does this offer entail?” I questioned, as I stepped over a paint can.

“Well fame of course, not to mention riches beyond your wildest dreams.” He replied, as he took his hands out of his pockets. “There will obviously be risks, but I can promise it will all be worth it in the end.”

“Riches and Fame?” I inquired, taking one more step toward Leonard and his assumed associate. “What exactly are you planning?”

“Why, we’re only going to be pulling off the heist of the century!” Leonard announced, throwing his hands up in dramatic effect. “No, let me rephrase that. You're going to be pulling off the heist of the century. We’re only going to be doing the planning.”

“And who exactly is this we you're referring to?” The figure beside him questioned. “From what I’ve seen you’ve only cared to include yourself in this so far.”

“My apologies.” He frowned, before he motioned to the person beside him. “Rick I would like you to meet my dearest friend Carlos.”

The figure, who I now knew was named Calros, stepped forward into the very little light that shone down through the dirt covered windows. I immediately noticed that he was wearing head to toe black, which in this heat must have been torture, as well as a trench coat that hung down to his ankles. His face was twisted in obvious displeasure, and his eyes gave me a feeling that he didn’t like me. I shivered under his glare, and tried not to meet his gaze again.

“Dearest friend my arce.” Carlos grunted, crossing his arms. “The only friend he’s ever talked about that way is you.”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you?” I offered, sticking out my hand. Carlos shook it, squeezing a bit too harshly, before releasing and crossing his arms again.

“Now, would you please like to explain to me again why exactly we need him?” He asked Leonard, motioning towards me with an incline of his head.

“Yes, please explain.” I added, looking between them. “My role in this so far has hardly been understandable.”

“If I must,” Leonard sighed. “Though I would prefer we go somewhere else, somewhere where people are less likely to try and sneak up on us.”

“And where exactly is that?” I pondered. Carlos grinned, before removing a burlap sack from inside his trench coat. My eyes widened, and for a second I questioned if he carried that around everywhere with him, or if he brought it specifically for me.

“Please don’t tell me I have to wear that.” I groaned, stepping backwards out of their reach and nearly slipping on a can.

“Unfortunately, for the time being, we mutually agreed that you can’t be trusted with the location of our safe house.” Leonard professed, stepping forward.

“So this isn’t where you're planning the heist?” I asked, confused.

“Gosh no.” He exclaimed, shaking his head. “Do you know how incredibly stupid it would be for me to lead whoever chose to follow me right into my hideout?”

“I guess,” I shrugged. “Then where are you taking me?”

“As I mentioned before, I can’t reveal the location to you until I can trust you won’t tell others.” Leonard sighed, rubbing his forehead, as if developing a headache.“I can promise though, that this will not be needed in the future if all goes according to plan.”

“According to what plan?” I panicked, not happy with the idea of being stuffed in a bag and transported to who knows where. “And why should I comply? You haven’t exactly been very honest this week to your actual whereabouts.”

“Is there anything I could do to make you trust me?” He inquired, frowning. “I would prefer to only have to go so far to ensure your cooperation.”

“Nothing I can think of at the moment.” I remarked, taking another step back.

“Too bad.” Leonard sighed, before motioning for Carlos to step forward.

I quickly backed away and turned to run when I figure hit me over the head, knocking me to the ground. Everything turned fuzzy as I third person, a woman this time, stepped out of the shadows and stood menacingly over me.

“Sorry about that.” She apologized, as she crouched beside me. “You’ll forgive me eventually.”

Then a sac was stuffed over my head and everything went dark.

-“So they kidnapped you, then used you.”-

=“Well I wouldn’t exactly say kidnap. I mean they did stuff me in a sack and transported me to an undisclosed location without my consent. You know when I say it like that it just sounds worse.”=

-“But did they use you? Yes or no?”-

=“If you mean use me for my good looks and charm, then yes. Otherwise it’s a bit more complicated.”=

-“How so?”-
