Vahn was once a slave in Atarrabi, along with his cousin Edin. He was purchased then freed by the Palamidia along with a group of others who had loa abilities. He was one of the few who survived training and then stayed with the Palamidia.

Vahn seeks peace. He feels like he owes Kanna his life, and that the people under his command deserve to have a proper leader. However, he has little to no self-worth, and would consider his own destruction a type of peace.

Osawa grew up in the floating cities of Icaunus. The people there often find ways of dodging the Palamidia's mandatory loa testing due to their transient nature, but Osawa volunteered at the first opportunity he could devise. He met Haru at the Academy when he was 13 and the two have been friends since.

Osawa wants stability more than anything else. He’s loyal and devoted, and even though Velinius offers order, he knows it comes with a price, and he knows there has to be another way. He underestimates himself in most things, and instead of looking at his own value he compares himself to what others can do.
