Isco is the only child of a middle class merchant family in Adur. He was an award winning and gifted physician specializing in divergent genetics. When his mother fell ill, he poured his energy into researching the cause of her illness and trying to find a cure. This lead to him becoming entangled with the Cabal, a resistance organization that funded his research only to turn around and weaponize it.
Isco needs forgiveness. He has hurt many people, even if it was indirectly, and he hopes in a way that if he can help these people then maybe, maybe he can find a way to be forgiven. He has major anxiety exacerbated by his guilt, is always terrified, and has a bad habit of getting himself into the worst situations.
Yassen was orphaned when he was around six, but was adopted by a friend of his father's who had fought with him in the war. Although he was born in Gegenes, he grew up in Adur. He began working as soon as he was able to help support his family, but it was never enough. The Theatre offered him a solution: they would give him room and board and pay him to fight. He didn't know any other loas, but he was aware of his abilities and wanted to learn more. It seemed like a simple solution, at the time.
Yassen is the youngest, and he is just trying to find his place in the world. He is loyal to the bone, and goes along with the others because he trusts that they will get him out of any situation they manage to get into. He is probably a little too trusting, though, and isn’t exactly the brightest of the group.
Astar is the only daughter of the governor of Gaoler, the capitol city of Gegenes. Her mother left when she was young but she grew up in privilege, never wanting for things. However, she was expected to behave in a way that would not harm her father's reputation. When she was older she became restless, often "running away from home" in order to get out from under her father's thumb.
Astar wants to make her own mark on things. She has always been overshadowed and controlled by her politician father, and she wants to break out of the mold she’s been shoved into. She’s headstrong but also reckless and, unlike the others, her bark is worse than her bite which also ends up getting her into complicated situations.
