I like Amaya.
I don't like my friends.
Me and Amaya take the same train back home, but never sit in the same carriage since she's not in the Group. I decide to sit with her this time, though, and apologise for what happened at the lunch hall.
"Hi!" I say, taking the seat next to her. These seats are so much more comfy since they're trialing a new type of train made out of carbon composite or something, not that I have any idea what that is. Apparently it's to make them lighter.
"Hello." She replies, looking into her lap.
"I'm so sorry about what happened at the lunch hall. They're horrible." It sounds like a shit apology, but it's not like I can stop being friends with them, I'll get thrown to the wolves.
She smiles weakly and we sit in silence. The only sound is the wheels of the train clattering along the rails and the heavy rainfall against the windows. It said on the news there was going to flooding and even electrical storms. For God's sake, it's summer!
I see a flash outside the window and hear a loud thunder crash. Everyone thinks I'm weird, but I have a strange obsession with thunderstorms, I just find them so exciting.
Another flash, this time the thunder is much louder. I gaze out of the window at the rain pelting down and-
I scream.
