**TRIGGER WARNING: Discussion of physical violence and/or assault**
Author: WillowTree
Genre: Fantasy/romance
What I liked about this book:
This book had a lot going for it. The writing was clear, concise, and very easy to understand. Jackson is immediately sympathetic in his want to save this werewolf from a slave auction. His decisions make sense, they're clear, and for the most part he's very likeable.
This is a premise that *could* work here.
What I did NOT like about this book:
It isn't really working for me for a couple reasons. The first, and biggest one, is that Jackson is clearly going to fuck this werewolf. Which wouldn't be such a big deal if it wasn't so very obvious that Wren has encountered some pretty extreme physical and sexual abuse.
In addition to this, werewolves are being kept in a system of sort of chattel slavery in which Wren has absolutely no power. Which leaves us with a situation where not only does Jackson hold absolutely all the cards here, Wren has already been conditioned to react to these sorts of advances in a specific way.
I just can't abide this. It's icky. I can see what you're going for, and frankly I don't trust you to write it well. There really isn't a way for Jackson to fuck the werewolf man without it being ridiculously inappropriate if we were *only* dealing with the huge power imbalance between them.
Apart from that I am having trouble with some of the worldbuilding. Why are werewolves slaves? Why does this collar company exist? Your pacing is a bit all over the place and fixing that would help.
But honestly I just can't get past this really honestly abusive-sounding 'relationship' between the two MCs. Even if Jackson means well, he will inherently be abusing his position if these two get together, and Wren will inherently have no choice how he responds.
Overall:
I can't get past the sexual violence, sorry.
Rating:
The writing probably gets a 6/10. The premise is a 1/10 for me, sorry.
