I lift my head slowly and look around me. There’s a fire at the end of the carriage and the train-
Holy shit there’s a fire at the end of the carriage.
I stand up and see Charli sitting next to me. My instinct tells me to leave her alone for a brief second before I realise that the Rules are the least of my problems now.
“Charli? Charli!”
“What the- oh. Wow. We should probably...”
“Yeah...” we turn and run to the door and find out it’s jammed shut, so somehow we manage to wriggle out of the window.
That’s when we see it.
The buildings have changed from tall concrete structures to lean, curved class ones. The sun is much brighter, and it’s as if the storm was never there. Everyone’s out on the street wearing similar clothes to what we usually wear, except everything seems to be made out of a shiny looking plastic.
“Uhhh...” Charli says.
“Don’t move!” We both jump when we notice a group of armed police around us.
“Jesus Christ.” I whisper, warily watching their guns.
“You are not in appropriate attire.” They say. I look down at my grey pleated skirt and white blouse, then at Charli’s almost identical uniform, except her skirt being slightly shorter and her lip gloss and mascara painting her face.
“Bruh, this is literally our school- OH MY GOD.” Charli falls to the ground as I realise she’s been tasered.
“Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god. SHE’S FIFTEEN WHAT THE HELL?” They stop pointing their rifles at her and all switch to me. I shut up. They yank Charli off the ground and grab me by the arm, too, before marching us to their white and pink cars and throwing us in. They handcuff us to the car seats and then speed off to a very large glass structure with pink windows. The police officers (I assume) do DNA swabs of our saliva and put us in a small room together, before another officer gives us identical clothes, but in a different material. Before the officer leaves, I speak up.
“Hey, so, like, girl to girl, can you tell us where we are, what year it is and how to get out of this place?”
“It’s 2020... and you’re in London... I’m notsure what you mean by ‘girl to girl.’”
“Please?”
She leaves hurriedly and a few seconds later another person comes in.
“We’ve come to the understanding that you are part of the far right group 2019.”
