Word got around fast about what happened to them. And when I mean fast, I mean police were involved fast.
They attempted suicide months later after a fight about how they didn't tell their parents about was what wrong with them. They continued to blame them instead of realizing all the faults they did and trying to fix THEIR own issues as well.
Their therapist came over to find them on the bathroom floor with their medication out on the corner. After being rushed to the hospital, they managed to regain consciousness after the OD but weren't allowed out and were given a commitment to the hospital so the path to getting better could start properly without the parents interfering. The parents though, first degree child neglect and first and second degree manslaughter. The other child was given to the grandma to be raised.
"Have you been able to talk to him?"
"No," Dorin whispered as he picked at his food. He'd been like this as the months before his friends suicide attempt happened. He noticed that they had gotten worse and worse over the months that led up to it. He was just relieved that his friend was okay now. That they were getting the help they needed.
"Are you going to go see them?"
"I will at some point. I don't want to overload them with appearing so soon before they can get time to relax and beagle to get into a routine. You know how they are about routines."
We laughed heartily at the thought when the last time they got excited about telling us routines they noticed.
The bell rang rather loudly now. Did it always ring this loudly at the end of the day?
"Come on, let's start going. I'll see you tomorrow Dorin."
I waved off before heading away to my locker thinking about how they were doing.
I'll probably go see them soon. Be nice too and I can tell them what they missed.
Going home was lonely. I started to realize that more now. Without someone who pointed out things you already see, but explaining it how you've never seen it before, or even pointing out things you've never seen before and explaining it too, makes you realize that it gets really lonely once it's gone.
"I'm home."
Mom appeared in the hallway to the living room and smiled, "Welcome home. How was today?"
"It was quiet today as usual."
Mom came over with her hands behind her back. I noticed the little things about homelife too. Like my mom, she always had a little bit of concealer on her arms. I guess that's to hide the little red patches she has.
She kept her eyes on me soft then motioned her index finger for me to follow her,"Come with me sweetheart. I have something for you."
I placed my bookbag down and followed her into the kitchen from the hallway. On the table was a box with a card.
"Mom?"
"Just read and open it sweetie. I'll be in the living room."
And that's what I did. And what was inside made my next decision soon to go see them even faster. But why they did what they did in the box, only made me wonder what they were doing and why they were doing it as well. The card gave me enough will to finally see them a few weeks later with a better attitude too. The card had things I didn't know about that I had asked for a long time. Plus more.
