Long ago, since before the annals of history were written or the Great Archives were even a spark in one’s mind, it was said that the world was united. Under one banner, people of all backgrounds, cultures, creeds, and races lived together in harmony.
The Primordial Light, Sol, smiled upon this and rejoiced at how bright the world shone with love and acceptance. However, the Primordial Darkness, Noctis, and his many subjects sneered at this sight, for happiness and peace, to them, was a vile, dull thing.
One day, the sky fell.
Stars rained down in a magnificent disaster, lighting the world aflame. The utopian society of this distant past was shattered as Noctis and his legions made their maiden voyage to the mortal realm.
Seeing what their counterparts had done, Sol and his brethren had left their thrones in the heavens and took their place on the earth below.
In this domain, neither the sides of the darkness nor the light could maintain their overwhelming power, so they turned to other methods. These primeval beings nestled inside the souls of the mortals. Leaving only a black mark on their frail bodies, both the light and the dark could now manifest their own will in this realm, and the result was catastrophic to the residents of this land.
Hundreds had perished from both the darkness and light, but the collateral casualties of the mortals they had involved was immeasurable.
After the storm had settled, the world was divided. People had been influenced by the various aspects at work in the universe. Malice, envy, lust, gluttony, vengeance, and deviance of myriad forms had swept over the hearts of the people.
As the unified world had fallen, many new borders had been drawn and walls to segregate had been erected around them.
Both the Darkness and the Light saw the reaping of the seeds they had sown. Sol wept... Noctis, however, grinned with pride.
Through victory, Noctis influenced the world to recognize him and his vassals as beings of Light, consequently usurping the name of Sol. The true Sol and what remained of his brethren were persecuted to the ends of the known world.
Even now, it is said that Sol is among us. He dwells in the shadows, marking time for his retribution.
