As his alarm went off, Lin audibly groaned, earning a soft laugh from Wynne.
"Do I have to get up?" He whined.
"I mean you don't but it's the first day of school and if you're not downstairs by ten thirty I'm leaving you,"
Lin began swearing in Hawaiian, forcing himself to get out of bed as Wynne walked out of their room, calling for Bandit.
Noelle stepped into the kitchen, grabbing a thermos and filling it with ice, coffee, cream, and sugar as Wynne opened their front door, greeting Yekaterina.
The purple haired girl jolted at the sight of her girlfriend, proceeding to wave obnoxiously until Yekaterina waved back.
"I'll leave you lovebirds to it," Wynne smiled, stepping away, "Thanks again for taking Bandit, Katya."
"You are welcome," she nodded as Noelle approached her, "Доброе утро, Любимая."
"Good morning to you too, your royal highness," Noelle leaned up to kiss her cheek, "Got any plans for today?"
"I'm spending all of today at home with a bottle of vodka and the dogs," Yekaterina held up Bandit's leash.
Noelle frowned, "I thought you quit drinking,"
"I did. I am probably going to just get, ah," she waved her hand, searching for the word on the tip of her tongue, "обедающий."
"Diner food?" Noelle offered.
Yekaterina beamed,"Yes, that. Thank you. Also, I have been meaning to ask, are you free Friday night?"
"Yeah, probably, why?"
The typically stony Russian looked at her designer boots, her pale face gaining a red hue, "I," She paused and sucked in a breath, "Do you want to go out for dinner?"
Noelle blinked, "Like a date-date? Not a sitting-in-your-apartment-eating-takeout date?"
"Yes,"
Noelle took in Yekaterina's fidgety appearance and reached for her hand, "Hey, you don't have to do this just because I'm more open about being, y'know-"
"Нет. No. I- I'm asking you because I'm finally comfortable with it."
"Well in that case, pick me up at six," Noelle leaned up and kissed the Russian, "And have fun with the dogs today,"
"I will. Have a good day at school, Любимая."
"Thanks, babe."
With that, they parted, leaving Noelle to shut the door and begin sipping at her more-sugar-than-coffee beverage with a smile.
Wynne watched in awe as Leslie and Lin simultaneously emerged from their rooms, a mere five minutes after their alarms had gone off and immediately began bickering.
Lin marched into the kitchen, somehow managing to perfectly wing his eyeliner using nothing more than his phone as a mirror as he picked up his messenger bag with his foot.
Leslie stepped behind Lin, yanking his hair out of the world's tiniest hair tie and mussed his brother's curls before shoving his way into the kitchen to snatch up what was left of the household's coffee.
Lin jammed his phone in his pocket, addressing his brother, "Y'know if you want hair to mess with you should grow yours out, baldy."
Leslie's hand immediately went to his crew cut as he glared at his twin, "My hair grows out dead straight, asshole,"
Wynne frowned as she scooped up her car keys, "It does?"
Leslie turned to her and nodded as he screwed the lid to his travel mug shut, "I got, like, 2B hair."
Noelle pulled open the door, pointing at Lin's mane of coils, croaking, "How?"
Lin slung his bag over his shoulder as the four of them made their way down four flights of stairs to the building's underground garage.
"Les looks like our mom, I look like our dad," he explained, only adding to Noelle's confusion.
"Is your mom.. White? Latina?"
"Maori," was a simultaneous response from the twins.
Wynne clicked her tongue in acknowledgement, "Interesting. Which NYU campus do you guys need to be at?"
"I need to be at the one outside of Noho," Lin answered, pulling the backseat of Wynne's car open and sliding in.
"By Washington Square Park?" Wynne asked as she dropped into the driver's seat.
"Yeah,"
"Aight, what about you, Leslie?"
Leslie looked up from his phone, "Huh? Yeah, I need to be there too."
As Noelle began to pester Wynne about going to Little Tokyo for lunch, Lin jammed Leslie in the ribs with his elbow, whispering, "Who you textin'?"
Leslie instinctively covered his phone screen, blurting out, "No one."
Lin gave him a knowing look as his hair fell in his eyes, "No one, huh?"
Leslie forced himself to suck in a breath and relax, "Fine. Not no one. There's this guy that I hooked up with twice and I- ugh- I dunno. He's really great but I'm not ready for," he gestured vaguely, "Any of that."
"Then don't do 'any of that'," Lin shrugged, snatching Leslie's coffee, "if he's worth your time he'll be understanding."
Leslie grimaced, "I mean, I have his emotions to consider too and I'm not really that great as a partner and he's just so cool with who he is, y'know? He's so nice and confident and just okay with his identity and I'm a complete-"
"Tane."
Leslie froze up at the sound of his name, closing his mouth.
"He hauʻoli?"
Are you happy?
He leaned back in his seat, sighing as the thought of Clark crept into his mind.
He was conventionally handsome; muscular, tall but he was also mismatched. One brown eye, one blue, his rich brown skin broke away at parts to reveal paper white skin.
He was an incredibly considerate lover with a soft smile and softer touch, and more importantly, he was just plain kind.
He'd made Leslie breakfast both nights he'd slept over, always listened when Leslie would talk about himself, had no problem with Leslie's crippling anxiety when it came to acknowledging his identity, much less being out and was just so steady.
It was difficult not to feel secure, to feel valuable with him.
"Yeah. I am."
Lin raised his well-shaped brows, "Then just let it happen."
Wynne jammed her keys in her pocket as she followed Noelle through Columbia's open gates.
Her eyes swept the courtyard, looking for Clark and instead landing on one of her old classmates from Eastview Academy, Brianna.
Bri's icy eyes narrowed as she stalked over to Wynne, forcing a tight-lipped smile, "Zafira, it's good to see you."
Wynne scratched her jawline, arching a brow, "Sorry, who's that?"
"You. You're Zafira."
"I'm sorry, you have the wrong person," Wynne grinned, "My name's Wynne. Hope you find who you're looking for though,"
Wynne turned on her heel and walked over to Clark, who was leaned against the Alma Mater, speaking with Noelle.
She kicked Clark in the leg and jerked her head towards Brianna, "How much you think her parents paid to get her admitted?"
Clark looked over Wynne and snickered, "Too much. Y'all eaten yet?"
"Yes."
"No," Noelle whined, "I'm starving."
